Summary Connoisseurship of hydrographic network of a certain territory was extremely

important for cartography, as the connoisseurship and correct detcrmining of rivers' flow conditioncd other clcments of a map, especially settlements. Presentation of hidrography of our tcrritorics imtil the cnd of the 18th century was afflicted with inexactness, misconceptions and incxperience. After gctting under the Turkish authority, Serbian countries stopped being a subjcct of interest for European cartography until the 18th century when the interest emcrgcd again, caused by political reasons. But, even then, again becausc of the Turkish authority, a great part of Scrbian countries remained inacccssible and unknown. It was not accidental that Europcan cartographers best knew the flow of the Sava and the Danube. Those were thc rivers on the frontier and sometimes within thc Ilabsburg empire, so that they could be learned and the imperial authorities were interested in Posavina and l'omoravlje. Out of the same reasons, Venetian cartographers were well familiar with the rivers of the Adriatic watershed, where Venetian Republic had its interests and partly achieved its political authority. Out of these reasons, until the end of the 18th century, it could be freely stated, European cartography kept its knowledge about the rivers of thc Acgcan watershcd at the level of the knowledge from Ptolemey's Geography.
