2019 / 2020 Race Entries
Members please note that the Topyacht Race Entry System (TES)has been loaded onto the BYC Website. Entries can now be madethrough the website in readiness for the upcoming season. Pleasenote the close of entry dates for each series / race. For BYC our season kicks off with Twilight Series 1 commencing onWednesday 9th October. Early entries would be appreciated by ourSailing Coordinator Mike Faure.
Make sure not to forget to submit yoursafety audits for the upcoming season!
They are available from the sailing office oron the BYC Website.
The BYC Overnight Race is Category 4 Plusand must be audited by an auditor, so makesure you get in contact with Ian Marshall or
Drew Meincke (BYC).
Training Courses
Safety Survival at Sea sailBYC are conducting an Australian Sailing Safety at Sea and SurvivalCourse. This will be run by Jeff Cordell, who competed in the 1998 Sydney to Hobart raceand has been teaching this course since 1999. This is a prerequisite for Cat. 1 races like the Sydney to Hobart, but it’s equally pitched atcruising sailors.Thursday Oct 24th - you will learn how to prepare for a voyage. How to check your equipment, things you should consider like crew training, and workingout how to get the best out of your crew. Thursday Oct 31st - you will learn how to deal with heavy weather sailing. How do you setup your boat? What preparations can you make when you’re in or about to be in a storm?Learn about basic weather forecasting, reefing, storm jibs and tri-sails. Most importantly we offer suggestions on what to do if youhave a crew member go overboard. Sunday Nov 3rd- is an all-day event. It’s the best bit! You get toinflate a Life Raft and learn how to right it should it flip. We fire offflares, so if you really have to do this, you will know what to do. We also cover jury rigs.How you might be able to rig a temporary rudder, or, fix stuff. We also go throughemergency communications and what to expect if youare being rescued by a helicopter. “Racing Rules of Sailing”This is targeted to be just prior to the Twilight Racing and its great to get arefresh on interpretations on rules and your obligations (which is always try toavoid a collision). Murray Jones is an international judge and will conduct this for us.
