Youth Economic Forum has turned into a Republic of Karelia brand event

The Youth Economic Forum (YEF) in Petrozavodsk has already 5 years of history, since 2008. The constantly growing number and geography of the participants, support to the event from the Government of the Republic of Karelia are indicators of its importance and increasing popularity not only in the Republic of Karelia, but also far beyond its borders. Only 150 participants from the Republic of Karelia and the Mur-mansk Region took part in the first forum in 2008. The fifth YEF in 2013 was attended by 220 people from 9 countries and 12 Russian regions. In 2013, YEF gained an international status (and it was in fact not the organizers initiative, but a motion by the Centre for Social-Conservative Policy).

Over the five-year history of the forum young scientists, PhD students, young entrepreneurs, students and schoolchildren presented more than 300 papers reporting the results of their research on innovation de-velopment (2008), the economy of Russian regions (2009), the competitive capacity of the Russian economy (2011), the strategy of regional development in Russian (2012), international economic integration (2013).

The mission of YEF is to set up a platform for discussions on theoretical and practical mechanisms for the development of regions, municipalities, industries and sectors of the economy in the global economic space. A unique feature of the forum, which distinguishes it from many similar events held in different re-gions of Russia and building up its appeal, is its interdisciplinary nature and the widely ranging interests of the participants, along with well-focused (and different each year) thematic area, as well as the use of various work formats, which are interesting for young people and create a special creative atmosphere. During the Forum the participants can share the results of their research, practical experience of dealing with issues of the socio-economic development of regions, familiarize themselves with the best international and regional practices in their professional sphere, give and get feedback.

It is noteworthy that for many regular forum participants (and their number is constantly growing) YEF has turned into the social and professional lift that helps them shape and build up their professional careers. Some of the participants first came to the forum as pupils and students, and have by now become quite well-known experts in their field.

In 2013 YEF turned a new page in its history, becoming an international youth event. In addition to the Organizing Committee, the Board of Trustees was established, chaired by the Head of the Repub-lic of Karelia A.P. Hudilainen and including well-known scientists, specialists and experts coordinator of the Center for Social-Conservative Policy E.Yu. Shuvalov, Russian Trade Representative in Finland V.A. Shlyamin, Advisor of the President of the Russian Federation, Academician S.Yu. Glazyev, President of the Karelian Research Centre of RAS, Corresponding Academician A.F. Titov, Rector of the Petrozavodsk State University A.V. Voronin and Director of the Karelian Branch of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration R.R. Pivnenko. Quite a number of organizations have become the forum partners. Naturally, the new stage in YEF development as a major international youth event will draw in not only new participants from countries near and far abroad, but will also enhance the image of the forum as a Republic of Karelia brand event with a massive scientific, educational, innovative and human resource potential.
