This manual is comprised of figures and text intended to provide descriptions
and instructions for the deployment, operation, and maintenance of the RJE
International ULB-350 Programmer. The information herein is arranged into
chapters and sections as follows:
Chapter 1 – An overview of the ULB-350 Programmer. General notes including
brief sections describing the applications and physical characteristics of the
Programmer itself.
Chapter 2 – Specifications. Sections comprised of lists of both general and
unique-to-the-unit specifications.
Chapter 3 – Operation and Deployment Notes. Sections detail the unpacking
and predeployment checkout procedures for the ULB-350 Programmer.
Chapter 4 - Maintenance. Sections detail periodic maintenance, battery
replacement and calibration procedures.

are the property of RJE International, Inc. Materials may not be reproduced or disseminated without
the prior written consent of RJE International.
RJE International reserves the right to make changes in design or specifications at any time without
incurring any obligation to modify previously installed units.
This manual is provided for information and reference purposes only and is subject to change
without notice.
LIMITED WARRANTY
RJE International, Inc. (RJE) guarantees its products to be free from defects in materials and
workmanship for a period of one year from the date of shipment. In the event a product
malfunctions during this period, RJE’s obligation is limited to the repair or replacement, at RJE’s
option, of any product returned to the RJE factory. Products found defective should be returned
to the factory freight prepaid and carefully packed, as the customer will be responsible for any
damage during shipment.
Repairs or replacements, parts, labor, and return shipment under this warranty will be at no
cost to the customer. This warranty is void if, in RJE’s opinion, the product has been damaged
by accident or mishandled, altered, or repaired by the customer, where such treatment has
affected its performance or reliability. In the event of such mishandling, all costs for repair and
return freight will be charged to the customer. All products supplied by RJE that are designed
for use under hydrostatic loading have been certified by actual pressure testing prior to
shipment. Any damage that occurs as a direct result of flooding is NOT covered by this
warranty.
If a product is returned for warranty repair and no defect is found, the customer will be charged
a diagnostic fee plus all shipping costs. Incidental or consequential damages or costs incurred as
a result of a product’s malfunction are not the responsibility of RJE.
All returned products must be accompanied by a CASE number issued by RJE International.
Shipments without a CASE number will not be accepted.
LIABILITY
RJE shall not be liable for incidental or consequential damages, injuries, or losses as a result of
the installation, testing, operation, or servicing of RJE products.

RETURN PROCEDURE
Before returning any equipment to RJE, you must contact RJE and obtain a Case number. The
Case number assists RJE in identifying the origin and tracking the location of returned items.
When returning items to RJE from outside the United States, follow the checklist presented
below to prevent any delays or additional costs.
� Include with all shipments two copies of your commercial invoice showing the value of
the items and the reason you are returning them. Whenever possible, send copies of
the original export shipping documents with the consignment.
� Route via courier (FedEx or UPS).
� If there is more than one item per consignment, include a packing list with the
shipment. It is acceptable to combine the commercial invoice and packing list with the
contents of each carton clearly numbered and identified on the commercial invoice.
� If it is necessary to ship via airfreight, contact RJE for specific freight forwarding
instructions.
� You will be charged for customs clearance and inbound freight.
� Insure the items for their full value.
� Refer to the RJE issued Case number on all documents and correspondence.
� Prepay the freight.
TITLE
Title shall pass to buyer on delivery to carrier at Irvine, CA. Risk of damage or loss following such
delivery shall be to the buyer and RJE International shall in no way be responsible for safe arrival of
the shipment. Title shall so pass to buyer regardless of any provision for payment of freight or
insurance by RJE International or of the form of shipping documents. If shipment is consigned to RJE
International, it shall be for the purpose of securing buyer’s obligations under the contract.

1.1 Overall Description
The RJE International ULB-350 Programmer is an electronic device used to program parameter
changes into the ULB-350 underwater acoustic beacon. The programmer is powered by either the AC
power adapter or a 9-Volt battery.

OPERATION NOTES & PROCEDURES
3.1 Introduction
The ULB-350 Programmer is a small self-contained electronic device that operates as a programming
interface for the ULB-350 series of underwater acoustic beacons. The ULB-350 Programmer uses a 9V
battery (Not Supplied) or the supplied AC power adapter to power the unit.
3.2 Unpacking
Carefully inspect each ULB-350 Programmer as it’s unpacked and report any damage to the
freight carrier and to RJE International.
As with any sophisticated electronic equipment, RJE International products should be handled
with a reasonable amount of care during unpacking, transporting and storing.

3.3.1 Ensure that a 9-volt battery is installed or connect the AC power adapter to power
the Programmer. Using the cable assembly connect Programmer to ULB-350 beacon
to be programed. (See figure 3-1).
NOTE The ULB-350 can be programmed with or without an internal battery installed
in the beacon.
NOTE: The Programmer LCD will not provide a reading unless connected to a ULB-350
3.3.2 Use Table 2.2 as a guide to navigate through the menus.
3.3.3 Turn on ULB-350 Programmer, by sliding the On/Off switch to on, observe start
screen on programmer’s LCD.

3.3.4 After a few moments, the programmer screen will switch to the Frequency screen.
Observe Frequency screen.
FREQUENCY SCREEN
The ULB-350 parameter on the top line displayed with brackets [Freq], is the value
displayed on the bottom line. The frequency displayed is the operating frequency.
NOTE: The frequency is factory set and cannot be changed.
3.3.5 To leave the frequency screen and adjust the pulse width, press the RIGHT button.
WIDTH SCREEN
Pulse width can be set from 5ms to 50ms in 5ms increments. The current value is
displayed on the screen. The UP button will increase and the DOWN button will
decrease the pulse width by 5ms. Once the pulse width is set, press the RIGHT button
to adjust the repetition rate or Period of the beacon.
PERIOD SCREEN
3.3.6 Period or repetition rate can be set from 1 pulse per second, to 1 pulse every 30
seconds. The current value is displayed on screen.

Set the FAST/SLOW switch to SLOW and the UP button will increment the period up,
and the Down button will decrement the period down in 1 second steps.
Set the FAST/SLOW switch to FAST and the UP and DOWN button will increment the
period in 5 second steps.
Once Period is set, press the RIGHT button to adjust the delay-time of the beacon.
DELAY-DAY SCREEN
3.3.7 Time delay is the length of time between water switch activation and when the
beacon actives and starts to send a acoustic pulse. The time – delay of the ULB-350
can be set from 1 second to 90 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds using the
Programmer. Days, hours, minutes and seconds each have their own setup menu.
The bottom line of the display shows the delays for all 4 menus.
Set the FAST/SLOW switch to SLOW and the UP button will increment the “day” delay
up, and the DOWN button will decrement the “day” down in 1 day steps.
Set the FAST/SLOW switch to FAST and increments can be adjusted by 10 day steps.
Once “day” delay is set, press the RIGHT button to adjust “hours”. The Programmer
will display [Delay-hr).
DELAY HOUR SCREEN
Set the FAST/SLOW switch to SLOW. The UP button will increment the “hour” time
delay up, and the DOWN button will decrement the day time delay down in 1 hour
steps.
Set the FAST/SLOW switch to FAST and increments can be adjusted by 5 hour steps.
Once “hour” delay is set, press the RIGHT button to adjust “minutes”. The
Programmer will display [Delay-min].
DELAY MINUET SCREEN
Set the FAST/SLOW switch to SLOW. The UP button will increment the “hour” time
delay up, and the DOWN button will decrement the day time delay down in 1 minute
steps.
Set the FAST/SLOW switch to FAST and increments can be adjusted by 5 minute steps

Once “minute” delay is set, press the RIGHT button to adjust “seconds”. The
Programmer will display [Delay-sec].
DELAY SECOND SCREEN
Set the FAST/SLOW switch to SLOW. The UP button will increment the “second” time
delay up, and the DOWN button will decrement the second time delay down in 1
second steps.
Set the FAST/SLOW switch to FAST and increments can be adjusted by 10 second
steps
Once “second” delay is set, press the RIGHT button to complete the time-delay
setting process. The Programmer will then display [Bat] to display the battery voltage.
3.3.8 Bottom line of display shows ULB-350’s internal battery voltage
NOTE: A 9-volt battery has to be installed into the ULB-350

3.3.9 Press the RIGHT button to view battery capacity. The Programmer will display
(Battery) [Cap] screen.
BATTERY CAPACITY
Bottom line of display shows current used, since last power up, in milliamp hours.
3.3.10 Pressing the LEFT button to return programmer to the previous menu selection or
pressing the home button, will return programmer to frequency menu screen.
3.3.11 When you had completed the programming of the ULB-350, turn the programmer
OFF using the on/off switch.

ULB-350 PROGRAMMER MAINTENANCE
4.1 Maintenance
Other than replacing the internal 9 volt battery, the ULB-350 Programmer is maintenance free. No
periodic calibration or maintenance is required.
4.2 Replacing the ULB-350 Programmer battery
The battery in the ULB-350 Programmer should be replaced as needed to insure proper
operation. To change the ULB-350 Programmer battery use the following procedure:
• Use fingers to slide battery cover away from the housing, exposing the battery.
• Lift old battery out of the battery compartment.
• Place new battery into compartment. Ensure terminals are oriented correctly.
• Replace battery cover.
