Name of nomineeLisa ArnoldErostering ManagerHarplands Hospital, Hilton Road, Harpfields

How does this person meet the criteria for the nomination?Lisa started her post as Erostering Manager in January 2020 and was immediately hit with a huge pile of work and years worth of clean ups on the Healthroster system and the Erostering processes. Within days Lisa was told the team would be having an Audit however Lisa never faltered and took it all in her stride and immediately got to work. Lisa has sacrificed her time at weekends to ensure work is complete and works tirelessly every day. On top of all of this, Lisa has had to adjust to the Trusts processes and has had to try and get to know and manage a new team, most of which has been done while working from home and having no face to face contact with the team. Lisa has made a huge difference not only to my role in the team but to how our team work in all aspects and everything Lisa has done has been a positive step forward. She has gone above and beyond in trying and testing times and has done brilliantly and has little recognition for it.

How does this person or team show a commitment to the Trust values? Not only does Lisa push us all to be better individually and as a team, she supports us all ever day in any way we need it. She is always willing to help, and pushes every day to do her best not only for her team but for all Ward Managers, Ward Staff, Bank Staff and the Trust as a whole and Lisa embodies the Trust values in everything she does. Lisa has delivered an excellent service under huge pressures and increasing workload and despite working from home for 9 out of the 11 months she has been in post, she has formed great relationships across the trust and has made the teams working relationships with several areas, much stronger.

Is there anything else you would like to share about the person or team you have nominated?I am proud to have Lisa as a manager and I am thankful for everything she has done for myself and our team this last year.

Name of nomineeJoanne AshworthCustody Pathway LeadThe Hope Centre, upper huntbach street

How does this person meet the criteria for the nomination?Joanne leads the police custody part of our service. Throughout Covid many people have struggled and custody has been increasingly filled with complex and challenging cases. Joanne as our custody lead has led from the front. Seeing patients, supporting partner agencies to overcome the challenges of Covid and working tirelessly to maintain those essential relationships for the service. Joanne has been a supportive figure for all her colleagues routinely and more so during these challenging times.

How does this person or team show a commitment to the Trust values?Custody involves some of the most vulnerable people within society and supporting people often with offences which morally you can not agree with, Jo is always compassionate and provides an exceptional service within that environment and through example role models those values to others. Jo acts as a brilliant representative for trust values within custody and to partner agencies.

Is there anything else you would like to share about the person or team you have nominated?I have nominated for unsung hero as the role of liaison and diversion is specialist and often goes on in the background without touching on the worlds of many in the trust so wanted to nominate Jo to highlight her ongoing hard work and the excellent service which she champions within custody across the entire Staffordshire area.

Name of nomineeLyndsey BamfordEnablement Worker

How does this person meet the criteria for the nomination?Lyndsey has shown true commitment to the team at IST to help during this difficult time. She is often seen to be picking up extra shifts to help her fellow colleagues on visits to those in crisis. She goes above and beyond to ensure the care provided is to highest standard even if that means making sacrifices to own plans to aid the support of individuals. I often feel that the curtail role of enablement workers is overlooked yet in fact they are often working just as hard, if not harder than other individuals. Lyndsey has also supported her fellow colleagues when they need someone to talk to or prise to give them the motivation and reassure to keep going. Small things like making new student feel welcomed and being there to support other truly shows how hard Lyndsey work and how she truly deserves to be recognised.

How does this person or team show a commitment to the Trust values?Commitment is shown in many ways though the supporting of new students and colleagues to picking up extra shift to support other staff members on their visits to those in crisis. Lyndsey have never once complained about how hard she is working or how drained she must be, making her even more admirable. During my short placement on IST I seen how much Lyndsey is a valued, respected member of the team with many seeking support and reassurance from her. Her bubby, positive personality makes her the ideal go to person when anyone needs help. She is always willing to support others even if that means making extra work for herself.

Name of nomineeLaura BaracloughGPMoorcroft Medical Centre

How does this person meet the criteria for the nomination?Working hard is to be expected of any professional. Dr Laura Baraclough works very hard and selflessly for the benefit of her patients, colleagues and the practice. She does this cheerfully and without complaint. She will stay late to ensure all patients are dealt without expecting anything back in return. - - Laura is the epitome of “the good doctor”. - - Whether its is seeing patients, supporting colleagues, teaching students and registrars or even trying to help random sick people passing by the practice, (true story, more later), Laura is a real hero. - - It would have been very difficult to integrate with the trust without her kindness, patience and faith in our vision. Patients and staff adore her but, like the rest of this new directorate, she has never had any formal recognition from NSCHT of the hard and compassionate work that she undertakes. To honour Laura is to honour every practice clinician who works tirelessly for our patients in Hanley and Bentilee. - - She represents the best of primary care health professionals and we would be very grateful if you could consider her for this award.

How does this person or team show a commitment to the Trust values?Compassionate: - - Laura has endless depths of compassion! - - Recently Laura came to the aid of a very unwell patient, not registered at the practice, and comforted their relatives. Paramedics were on the scene but she was close by and despite knowing that she had work at the practice, she knew that her responsibility was to help her paramedic colleagues and comfort the relatives. She did not “virtue signal” or advertise her act of compassion. As usual, when the patient had been transferred to hospital, she got on with her job. - - Approachable: - - Laura is very easy to talk to and no one ever feels judged by her. - - She is a supportive colleague who will mentor new allied health professionals who join the practice and offer reassurance to colleagues who are struggling. - She is the first to say “yes” when help is needed but is still quiet and unassuming. She very quickly becomes a supportive colleague when required and a trusted friend. - - Responsible: - - We believe that Laura feels a sense of duty to the practice. The high rates of deprivation in Hanley and Bentilee and the subsequent high demand for primary care can deter some doctors but these factors attracted her to the practice. She feels that this is where she is needed most. She doesn’t leave until she knows that her work is complete. - Laura is also an educator, who is willing to endure a very long days with few breaks because she believes that her students and registrars should recieve first class teaching sessions. - - Excellent: - - Laura is an experienced GP with a good reputation. She has supported the practice to achieve its quality outcome framework (QOF) points. She has also attracted registrars to the practice with the quality of her teaching sessions. Word of mouth among the patients and their representative body, the patient participation group, confirms that her manner and clinical acumen are held in high esteem.

Is there anything else you would like to share about the person or team you have nominated?Laura is the epitome of “the good doctor”.

Name of nomineeMarie BarleyStaff Engagement and Organisational DevelopmentLawton House, Bellringer Road, Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent

How does this person meet the criteria for the nomination?“I will look after our staff” has always been Marie’s mantra but even more so this year. The question should be what hasn’t Marie done to support our staff on the front line and beyond. Marie went over and above to source products for the staff health and wellbeing hampers. Worked in partnership with Estates colleagues to get the Rainbow Suite ready for our staff. Never stopped in her continuous effort with ideas and suggestions to make the workplace environment as supportive as is possible for our staff. Marie simply “just got on with it.” She ensured that our on-line corporate induction was even more engaging, informative and memorable for our new starters. We then have the Staff Survey in which Marie’s campaign of engaging and communicating with people around the staff survey has enabled the Trust to reach its highest ever staff survey score of 61%. All this in one year and all because Marie was determined that we continue to engage and look after our staff every single day of the week. Not all hero’s are visible because they don’t shout about what they’ve done, they just quietly get on with it which is what Marie has done -” our true hero”!

How does this person or team show a commitment to the Trust values?Marie is a motivated, courageous and warm colleague who everyone truly admiress. Marie and values are synonymous. From the moment we went into lockdown we all saw a different side of Marie. A side that was unrelenting in her focus to support and help staff. She contacted major supermarkets and other organisation for donations so that staff felt cared for and valued and asked staff what they needed that would help them and literally. Actions speak louder than words and Marie’s actions this year have indeed done this in demonstrating her kindness and values.

Is there anything else you would like to share about the person or team you have nominated?“One person can truly make a difference - and for us that person is our unsung hero Marie!”

Name of nomineeDr Rebecca ChubbConsultantWard 4

How does this person meet the criteria for the nomination? She is an amazing consultant, however her commitment, professionalism and dedication to patients across the trust, and the UHNM, has been outstanding since the beginning of COVID. Prior to the initial outbreak she sat with senior members of staff and discussed what we may need to look after patients suffering with COVID and ensured that we had the equipment to care for very ill people should their condition deteriorate with us, she ensured that we were physically and emotionally prepared for what we may have to encounter. When the initial outbreak happened on Ward 7, she was there supporting staff at all levels to care for people suffering with COVID, and she was there for the patients and their carers, providing staff with easy to follow cue cards to help them have difficult conversations over the phone, which was totally alien to the majority of the staff and supporting them emotionally with same. She has been a beacon of light during the whole of the pandemic, lighting the way, and the rock that we have clung to in times of need. She has not faltered at any point with her commitment and dedication to ensuring that all staff and patients had the best possible outcome in such difficult times.

How does this person or team show a commitment to the Trust values?Dr Chubb excels in all the trust values, her compassion to staff, patients and carers is immeasurable, she is extremely approachable, we have had patients on Ward 4 whose health has deteriorated to a point where they have reached the end of their life with us and have been too poorly to move, she has ensured that she has spoken to the relatives of those people and made extra visits to the ward outside of her already busy schedule to ensure that they had the very best of care. She takes responsibility for her actions, she is decisive but listens to others, she ensures that she is up to date with all the latest research and her knowledge of COVID has been outstanding throughout. She is excellent in everything that she does within the trust.

Is there anything else you would like to share about the person or team you have nominated?I do not mind this being shared with Dr Chubb, but I did not want her to know who wrote it

How does this person meet the criteria for the nomination?Carol has taken on a very difficult job to ensure our patients have their PH assessments. This task is huge in EIT and outcomes are reported nationally via our NCAP (Rpsych National Clinical Audit of psychosis) audit. In the past 2 years NCAP audit we have achieved 98% and 95% for service users meeting the audit criteria in physical health. The aim is also not just to assess but also intervene and follow up on results. This is an amazing achievement given the numbers and the various elements required for the audit submission.

How does this person or team show a commitment to the Trust values?People have asked me across our West Mids regional clinical network, how we have achieved such high results and I have to say that the results are based solely on Carols tenacity, engagement skills, pragmatism and genuine care about service users physical health. - Our EIT clients (often very young or substance users) do not always prioritise their PH or see a need to, Carol has an amazing ability to engage people in the community to accept a physical health assessment. She gains a great rapport with clients she may not have met before and to support and encourage them to be a partner in their overall health management.

Is there anything else you would like to share about the person or team you have nominated?Carol is always ambitious in this area of her work. She puts her all into ensuring that these assessments are completed to a high standard and takes great personal pride in her work. He was aggressive, blowing into her face and at one stage even jumped onto the back of a moving lorry. She tackled him and the situation alone. Eventually the more carers, police, ambulance and police van arrived and escorted him and other carers away. - After the shock of seeing it all, I’m now left feeling humbled by the lady I saw initially, with a blond pony tail and glasses. I could just tell that at the core of her actions was “care”. - Thank you for your time.

Kelsey has been instrumental in co-ordinating the agency requests, liaising with the agency and individual practitioners for hours on a daily basis to support in ensuring areas are safely staffed to ensure quality and patient safety is maintained during such difficult times.

How does this person or team show a commitment to the Trust values? The manner in which Kelsey has approached the co-ordination is always in a manner that is compassionate and although not delivering direct patient care recognises the challenges that the teams are facing on a daily basis with staffing requirements. She approached the meeting with the utmost professionalism and has gone to great lengths to ensure agency staff are maximised and has approached individual agency staff in a sensitive manner, when having to ask them to work in areas that are caring for covid positive patients (something that some individuals are really anxious with). Kelsey has worked tirelessly, nothing has ever been too much trouble. The enthusiasm to work collaboratively with frontline staff has been incredibly valued and an absolute testament to the kind of administration support we need within the organisation.

Is there anything else you would like to share about the person or team you have nominated?Kelsey as an individual has gone above and beyond and ‘quietly’ got on with things behind the scenes. It is not an easy task attending a meeting on a daily basis with all service managers, matrons and ward managers and been met with lots of demands and high expectations, but Kelsey has managed this and shows absolute understanding of the pressure the senior leaders are under at times. - Kelsey has become an absolute asset to our daily staffing team and I feel deserves the recognition for all her efforts.

Name of nomineeKelsey McBrayneE-rsotering Team

How does this person meet the criteria for the nomination?Kelsey has attended majority of staffing meetings as representation for the e-rostering team and has really stepped up to help coordinate the movement of staff across the hospital inpatient areas. Kelsey has liaised with both bank and agency staff and has needed to have many difficult conversations with anxious staff members who are been asked to work in different areas, particularly covid positive areas. Kelsey has had to keep track and implement complex plans in relation to staff movement following each daily staffing meeting and has played a big part in ensuring the wards are staffed as safely as they possibly can be.

How does this person or team show a commitment to the Trust values?Kelsey has shown excellent commitment in playing her part in ensuring that inpatient areas are staffed as best as they possibly can in what has been very challenging times following a number of Covid outbreaks. I feel Kelsey has been a real unsung hero during this time and don’t feel she has yet received the positive feedback she deserves due to how busy we have all been!

How does this person meet the criteria for the nomination?Nicola goes above and beyond everyday! - She rarely works her part time hours and really thinks outside the box - One example of this is a patient who the team couldn’t really get any engagement from, she found out he likes motorbikes from his family and purchased a motorbike toy. Low and behold, he started opening up to her and now months later, hes in a rehabilitation unit doing very well and has made contact to thank her individually. - This is only one example and there are hundreds of events and stories like these - she takes the time to really understand people and get to know, not only our patients, but the families and wider network - - She came from a stroke ward with no experience in Mental health, yet you would never know, she’s interested, passionate, caring and so valued, yet she would never recognise this or take the credit she so deserves. - - she may only work part time, but she is worth her weight in gold

How does this person or team show a commitment to the Trust values?Nicola is the most compassionate person I have ever met, - The team highly respect her, but the patients respond so well to her and what she can offer, she can engage even the most challenging patients with ease and the team - She’s mature and responsible and this shines through her practice and ward 2 wouldn’t be the same without her

Name of nomineeJackie NolanNurse PractitionerWard 3, Harplands

How does this person meet the criteria for the nomination?Jackie is a very experienced nurse who is sadly due to retire in December 2020. (Sadly for us this is). It would be very easy in this positon for Jackie to begin to “wind down” or frequently remind the staff of how many pay days are left, but she has never done this. - She has continued to provide her skills, knowledge & expertise daily to a complex patient group on ward 3, while supporting locum doctors & a new leadership team to ensure that her exceptional clinical standards are maintained. - During the first wave she volunteered to go & support a hot zone & not only did they benefit from her skills, she thoroughly enjoyed it & she has successfully supported them in their case for their own nurse practitioner, adding value tot he leadership team & patient experience in our older persons service. - Initial impressions of Jackie are often incorrect, she is straight talking & will passionately argue for what she believes in right for her patients. She is one of the most compassionate nurses I have ever had the pleasure to work with. Supportive of her juniors & her peers, she is not afraid to change the status quo, Jackie is the absolute epitome of the trust values. She will be sorely missed.

How does this person or team show a commitment to the Trust values?Compassionate- Jackie goes above & beyond to support others, making calls out of hours to ensure staff wellbeing, sitting with a brew & listening or telling some difficult to hear truths. Jackie gives a balanced, honest & truthful approach to everyone around her staff & patients & what could be more compassionate than that! - Approachable- Jackie is the go to person from the nursing team, whilst she is not afraid to have the difficult conversations, she will listen, debate, accept when she is wrong & offer constructive support & feedback wherever it is needed. - Responsible- Jackie has often taken on more responsibility than most would, steering team through some very difficult & challenging times. - Excellent- Jackie has exceptionally high clinical standards, she is willing to challenge poor practise but also nurture, teach & develop junior staff to help them develop their own skills.

Is there anything else you would like to share about the person or team you have nominated?Jackie likes people to think she is tough & she certainly is but she’s also kind, considerate & as passionate now as she was 20 years ago, she will hate this nomination as she hates being in the limelight, but it is truly deserved.

Name of nomineeClarissa PeacockMemory Service clinical support HCSWThe Eaves

How does this person meet the criteria for the nomination?Clarissa has been amazing the past year through out the COVID 19 pandemic. Clarissa has gone beyond her role to support others during this time. Clarissa has even challenged herself to do more during this time. Clarissa supported the phlebotomy clinics for the Trust for the antibody testing. Clarissa has worked tirelessly throughout to see people and support the team to gain essential observations including blood test, ecg to support a person’s care living with dementia. Clarissa has gone beyond supporting her own team but put herself out to help any where she could and sometimes at short notice. An example calling Clarissa very late on one day to gain some urgent observations and she re planed her route the following day to support the patient received timely treatment and maintaining staying in their own home. Carissa has supported care homes, people in their own home and in a clinic. Clarissa has proved she can also take observation in any situation as she will be determined to support the care. Recently Clarissa has played an important role in a pilot project to assess the cognition of people with a potential memory concern. Clarissa’s attitude is “right if that’s what we have to do”. Clarissa is very supportive to her team and passionate to over come team issues. Clarissa has practised with the upmost safety throughout the year never ever becoming complacent with any step of maintaining safety standards. Very respected by all team members and would never take compliment for herself. Our Drs can be heard at times “where’s Rissy” proving she is a go to person.

How does this person or team show a commitment to the Trust values?Clarissa has positive feedback regular from patients and carers. One lady stopped me when leaving the unit and said she had not wanted to come to the appointment that day. The patient had been to see Clarissa for some observations and cognitive assessment, on leaving she gave great praise saying Clarissa had taken all her fears away and she was glad she had came. During the first lock down Rissy made numerous calls to people waiting for appointments to reassure and offer advice to getting help. Each call I heard Clarissa gave time and was very compassionate. At one point collecting items to support a local charity to support people. Clarissa is very reliable, if any member of the team ask for support with a patient or family you can guarantee it will be completed. She never complains. Exceeds her role and a positive role model and person you would want to care for you or your relative.

Is there anything else you would like to share about the person or team you have nominated?Going through the past year, working through COVID and supporting people with Dementia. Clarissa is like a pot of gold, she really has been great and worked so hard. A definite team player.
