I. INTRODUCTION

No family is perfect, we argue, we fight. We even

stop talking to each other at times, but in the end,

family is family, the love will always be there. The

family plays a vital part of our everyday life. It helps

us in improving our personality. It also helps us in

shaping our lives. It teaches us the value of love,

affection, care, truthfulness and self-confidence and

provides us tools and suggestions which are necessary to

achieve success in life. Family is a place where you can

be yourself. It is a place where you are accepted for

what you are. This is where you are completely tension

free and everyone is there to help you. Family encourages

you when you are surrounded by problems. It helps you

survive through tough times and bring joy and happiness

into life. Decency is very important in the communication

of daily life. It helps us make strong relationship with

others and make us come across as a very gentle,

intelligent and likable person.

Our group overwhelm in doing this empirical study to

witness the realities in life. Through this study, the

researchers are given a chance to share our blessings and

knowledge to the family we chose. Their life story

touches our hearts even though they experiencing a lot of

trials, they still have time to pray and give thanks to

our God.

The researchers truly believed that this empirical

study guide us to be a responsible citizen and may God

and protect us.

II. METHODS OF RESEARCH

A. Observation

The family is well organized, the siblings are

well disciplined and the parents are well mannered when

it comes to raising their children. During our

interaction with the Barrientos family, we noticed that

the parents really planned well to support their two

children. The parents raised their children well,

despite their young age; they are very responsible and

neat. They have a stable job that supports their needs.

B. Communication w/ Intimacy

We arrived at their house just in time their

children went home from their respective schools. Mrs.

Susan Barrientos and her husband, Mr. Abraham

Barrientos welcomed us warmly and they gladly answered

our respective questions with all honesty. Both the

parties, us and the family, talk about certain things

about the said topic, which is family planning, with a

sense of formality yet there’s still a hint of humor

just to lighten up the mood around the house. The

children, on the other hand, gleefully answered the

questions we asked them. They even talked to us about

the objective of the interview.

C. Dealing

Meeting, observing and interviewing an entire

family you just met is quite strange yet we still

managed to adjust and interact with them well. When we

meet the parents, they heartily welcomed us inside

their house. We talked to them in a nice and polite way

while they answer our questions with full honesty. We

respected their beliefs as a family and in return, we

earned they trust.

D. Interview

The interview went smoothly and meaningful. The

parents dealt with our questions formally and

seriously. During the interview, we noticed that their

children also speak in behalf of the family. They

answer the questions they think they know about and

they even ask us the same questions. Their curiosity

made the interview light and fun. All the questions

that need answers were answered.

B. Status of the Family

The family is financially stable and well planned.

The father has a stable business and so is the

mother. The children attend classes in their respective

schools regularly. The family seldom get problems and

they eventually looks for something that would fix

these problems.

C. Daily Routine

The children go to school at five in the morning.

Their mother wakes up late but their father helps them

to get ready for school. Once the mother wakes up, she

cleans their house and do other house chores as she

waits for her daughters. The siblings arrive home

around 1 in the afternoon and they’ll quickly change

into house clothes. They’ll eat lunch meals and spend

the afternoon playing and hanging out in their sari-

sari store. They’ll eat dinner by 7 in the evening and

they’ll get ready for bed.

D. Culture of the Family

Communication

Just like any other Filipino family, they have

strong family ties that makes them communicate

easily and openly.

Socialization

Since they live in a small place, they were close

to each other and they move around each other

without any hint of awkwardness.

Rules

- Once night time came, they must already be

inside the house.

- Once the meal is served, they must be complete

in the dinner table.

- The siblings must prioritize their studies.

Beliefs and Principle

- “You don’t need to dream much, just let your

children finish their studies.” (Di na

kailangan pa mangarap ng marami, basta

makatapos ang mga anak mo ng pag-aaral.)

- “As long as you’re breathing, keep on

fighting.” (Hangga't humihinga ka, laban lang

ng laban.)

- “Talk to your children instead of hurting them.

If ever they didn’t learn from it, a flip into

the sole of their feet would be enough.”

(Kausapin mo ang mga anak mo imbis na saktan

mo. Kung di nagtanda, kurot lang sa talampakan,

tama na.)

V. CONCLUSION

In this empirical study, therefore, a family as an

important group to everyone must be well planned and must

possess certain characteristics to help a person grow. We

admired the children more because they study hard to

pursue their dreams. They're the precious stones of the

parents so all their focus is onto them. The parents do

whatever it takes for them to survive the hard game of

life.

VI. RECOMMENDATION

We're glad that their family is satisfied with the

life that they have, the parents very lucky because they

have children who are keen to study and have respect to

the elders and so are the children for having such a

great parents like them. They must maintain this type of

method to raise their family as one because they will

definitely build up a good bond and foundation as a

family. They children will inherit the good traits their

parents have taught them. As long as they face their

problems as a family and as one, they will surely be

strong and stable.

For future researchers, cooperation is a must for

conducting empirical studies. Be sure you have enough

money and food to sustain your needs, be prepared

especially in the first day of conducting your study for

the chosen family. Avoid blaming and give respect to each

researcher, control your emotions to avoid

misunderstanding for the better and successful empirical

study. Try your best to be responsible and mature so

you'll end up with a good result.

VII. LESSON

Having a family is not easy especially if you’re not

prepared, you should plan it first, be sure that you have

stable job and investment for the sake of your future

family. As we observe, siblings of Mr. and Mrs.

Barrientos are so lucky to have them as their parents; it

is because even though their parents don’t have big

income they still send their children to school. They

want them to be successful and have a better career as

they grow old. It is inspiring for us researchers to

witness the reality of life and to do them as our role

models as we reach the time that we could also be parents

and have our own family, too.
