Grammar- Complex Sentences

I know that a complex sentence is made up of a main clause and a subordinate

clause

I know that a subordinate clause contains a verb but does not make sense on its

Simple sentence: The driver crashed into the house.

Complex Sentence: The driver crashed into the house because he didn’t stop at the red

light.

Task 2: Change these simple sentences to compound sentence’s by adding in a

subordinate clause

Example:

Simple sentence: The driver crashed into the house.

Complex Sentence: The driver crashed into the house because he didn’t stop at the red

light or Because the driver failed to stop at the red light, he crashed into the house.

Task 2: Write a complex sentence to go with each of the pictures below

1. Create your complex sentence

2. Underline the subordinate clause in red

3. Under line the main clause in blue

Use the subordinating conjunctions in the box below to help you.

Example:

Complex Sentence: The driver crashed into the house because he didn’t stop at the red

light or Because the driver failed to stop at the red light, he crashed into the house.
