Coquette has released its 2015 MainCollection, with new styles heading tostores this month. To showcase thecollection, the manufacturer releaseda new catalog. Photographed indowntown Toronto with the cityscapeas a backdrop, the catalog representsthe urbanite feel of this year’scollection.

The designers produced a collectionthat will carry throughout the yearwith styles that include foundationpieces, special occasion, bridal andCoquette Diva—the lingerie company’splus line. Lighter, less structuredstyles are prevalent in the 2015lookbook with soft lace cups andsilhouettes to show off a woman’scurves. Decorating the pages areimages in next season’s rich, sultrycolor, merlot.

“Our vision for this collection wasto design a line that embodies thecareer woman who wants her lingerie to be sensual and wearable,” saidsenior designer Elaine Carson. “We focused on using specific materialssuch as stretch lace, mesh and powernet to provide pieces that fitperfectly to the body without being constrictive.”

This year there has been a movement away from overly decoratedpieces to a sexier, more sophisticated collection. The theme of ‘less ismore’ can be seen throughout, and shows the direction that the brandis taking. Neons and bright colors are also making their debut into theline, something that the designers believe to be a perfect transitional

sub-collection into spring andsummer.

Additional changes to the line havebeen the inclusion of Spellbound andthe La Petite collections now beingfound in the back of the book.Spellbound, the brand’s light bondageline has transformed into a morerisqué look that includes Coquette’sfirst removable cup design. Bustiersand babydolls with the playful featureare accompanied by removable tasselsthat double as a tickler. Pearls areanother hot item for this year’sSpellbound collection adding a touchof excess that works well for boththis and the bridal line.

are adjustments or changes that need to be made, wecan handle it. And it allows us to build the product and

the brand at a rate we want.”In an effort to build that brand, the manufacturer sponsored a

contest among more than 20 popular porn performers to become theHandie Girl. The women campaigned on social media to become the faceof the male pleasure product, and the first performer chosen wasAngelina Chung (pictured at left). One of her main duties will be toshow women can co-exist with the Handie.

“We really wanted a personality,” Austin explained. “Someone who reallyinteracts, who goes into social media. I always think that if you’ve got apersonality you will translate better in pictures. We brought [Ajdin] in and hestarted talking—he’s got this grin and he’s got this energy. … I said, ‘I thinkthis is the one.’ ”

A lean but well-muscled brunette with a mischievous grin, Ajdin Sefer spentthe first 10 years of his life in Bosnia and then moved to Michigan with hisfamily. “I lived there for 15 years. I got my degree in business administrationwith a specialty in management in December. And then I moved over here fourweeks after I graduated. Packed my car up, loaded it onto a truck—my brotherand his friend are truck drivers, and they took a load to Vegas. I rode withthem, unloaded my car, I went my way and they went their way, and here Iam. And I’m just living the dream, you know.”

So far that dream has been working out pretty well. In addition to snaggingthis gig with Baci, Sefer said, “I did a Lady Gaga video, and then I did a videofor J-Lo. And the I did a thing with Sophia Reyes, I don’t know if you’refamiliar with her. They say she’s the next J-Lo.”

He adds, “They say,” laughing and poking fun at his pronouncement.Then comes an even more relevant tidbit: “I’m the new face for Von Dutch

clothing.”But today it’s all about Envy. “I’m really excited with how they fit,” he says

about the pinstripe Envy boxers he’s sporting, noting the shorts could even be

not every day that onegets to skip out of theoffice on a beautifulautumn day and spendthe better part of the

afternoon far away from email and naggingphone calls. So it was a pretty painlesstask to head across the San FernandoValley for an Evny Menswear photo shoot—but it became downright pleasurable aftermeeting the star of the shoot: Ajdin Sefer,the new model for the apparel line, thebrother company to Baci Lingerie.

Hard at work in the studio in Van Nuyswere a photographer, a makeup artist andthree representatives from Baci Lingerieowner Frank Koretsky’s IVD empire: HellePanzieri, sales director for Baci Lingerieand Envy Menswear; Sonja Elisa Raaste, thedesigner for both Baci and Envy; and theirrepressible Austin, a longtime IVDemployee, who had assisted in the modelsearch that yielded the new face of Envy.

worn as a bathing suit. “Feel the fabric,” he saidinvitingly. Indeed, a quick caress of the material revealedjust how soft and smooth it is. Just how one mightimagine Sefer’s own skin would feel.

Panzieri and Raaste, however, are looking to make themodel even smoother. Though his chest and arms arealready hairless, they’re now asking him to shave it all offbecause the camera is picking up his light-colored leghair. “You already have amazing-looking muscles on yourlegs,” Panzieri said. “When we take the hair off, it’s goingto look even better.”

With that, she was off in search of shaving accouter-ments. “You need any preferred snack, since we’re makingyou go through this?” she asked Sefer, who joked aboutneeding a shot of tequila.

Ajdin’s affability was just part of what made him agood fit for Team Envy. Austin recalled, “Seriously, we sawa bunch of guys, and there were a couple I thought couldreally work. But he was so charismatic. There are beautifulguys who photograph well, but if I brought him to a tradeshow, he would interact with people; he would beengaging. … People relate to the personality.”

The shaving break provided more time to talk to Raaste.

Though she didn’t work on this round of styles for Envy, the designer’s creations forBaci are already available. “I really loved working on the corset line,” she said. “Theblack one made of leather and suede with the peplum on the side—I think that wasmy favorite. And the dressy office styles.“

Raaste talked a bit about her background. “I studied fashion design and patternmaking in Barcelona. I am Finnish, but I was born in Spain so it’s a little bit of amix. I’ve lived in Spain all my life. I’m visiting and traveling a lot.” And she com-mented on the styles that would be photographed today. “I think it’s an evolutionfrom the last collection because it has a lot of basic styles—they’re not just for theflashy guy. You have stuff for the regular guy too. There are boxers, seamless styles,there are pinstripe ones that are kind of sophisticated. And there are the sexy ones—for example, some have a stripe that is a little bit more revealing. It’s kind of sexy,but it’s still something that any guy would wear.”

For bolder types there is also dance wear: “more colorful, like for club dancers,maybe, and for shows. There’s a little bit of everything.”

At Baci for about a year and a half, Raaste first did the corset line and then alingerie collection that is still to be released. “The lingerie is kind of sexy and subtleand sophisticated. Softer and feminine, but sexy still. There are more revealing piecesand some that are transparent.” In addition, there will be bikini sets, teddies androbes “that will appeal to all the different tastes that women have. … We haveenough for everybody to feel comfortable and still feel empowered.”

As preparations got under way to shoot the newly shorn model, Panzieri had a littletime to talk about her end of the business: selling the Envy line in a competitivemarketplace. “I think it’s fiercely competitive, but it’s not as fierce as female lingerieis. Right now as far as male apparel there’s a huge opportunity for us, and I thinkthat that’s why Envy so far has done so well—not only for our international partners,but certainly for their customers, the end retailers and e-tailers. I think what isenabling the sales is that it’s a great product … cutting-edge styles, patterns andfabrics.”

And comfort, it turns out, is key for male consumers. “One of the thingsthat I really find interesting when talking to men about their undergarments isthat it’s all about how soft can we make it. So with females it’s more aboutthe cut—‘How does it make me look, and by that look how will it make mefeel?’ For the guy it’s all about, ‘Is it soft for me?’”

But what really has Panzieri excited still lies ahead later in 2015: a sub-collection of costume pieces for men. “That is my favorite piece of theupcoming styles,” Panzieri said. “If you can put a girl in a bedroom costumeand really fulfill a fantasy that way, it certainly goes the other way as well.”She believes that not only will women enjoy drawing their men into the role-play game, but also the men themselves—both gay and straight—will embracethe chance to dress up and play with their partners. “Props to the guy who’sgoing to walk in and buy a costume, put it on and say, ‘Honey, look at me.’ Ilove that, but I also love the thought of a girl walking in and buying it forher guy. Or a guy walking in and buying it for his partner. Or for himself toshare with his partner. I think that’s just brilliant.

“No matter who your partner is, it’s about constantly exploring fantasies,keeping it spicy and hot in the bedroom. With Envy, whether it’s our costumesor our new collection, it will definitely do that.”

facility is located near Pipedream’s Chatsworth head-quarters, in a 50,000-square-foot building which hasbeen renovated and supplied with equipment includ-ing improved extruding machines and re-platedmolds. A new proprietary cooling system has beeninstalled to expedite the manufacturing process,cutting the cooling time for freshly poured productto a fraction of the previous 24-hour cooling time.

“Now, a brand-new dildo is poured, packaged andready to ship in just one hour,” Chairman and CEONick Orlandino said.

Under the new system, molds run on a conveyorbelt through a cooling tunnel that blows cold airdirectly on the mold. Workers can remove the freshlymolded product immediately, freeing the mold forthe next pour. From there, the extracted pieces aremoved to a cooling bath, which quickly drops therubber’s temperature and preps it for handling. Anautomated conveyor system transports the dildosfrom the cooling tank to the finishing area, whereworkers trim and smooth the product and prepare itfor packaging. Once the items are packaged, theyare boxed in master cartons for shipping.

The improved procedures have increased fill ratesby 140 percent, and the new facility can produce5,000 packaged and ready-to-ship products perworkday. The new system is currently fully functionaland Pipedream reports that the company canproduce 1.2 million products a year on a regular 40-hour workweek, which can be increased by adding asecond shift.

Although Pipedream has been producing itsrubber products in the U.S. since 2007, high demandfor products in the Basix line starting in 2013 led tomanufacturing shortfalls, in turn leading to theestablishment of the new facility.

“We’ve brought on Tony Hernandez, a 27-yearindustry veteran of rubber manufacturing andproduct development, to help lead the way, and hisvast knowledge of new materials and proven tech-niques is a valuable asset to our team,“ PipedreamChairman and CEO Nick Orlandino said. “Senior VicePresident of Operations Pete Ledeboer has an exten-sive background in manufacturing for mainstreamcompanies like Mattel, Kransco and El Dorado Stone,and he’s helped develop and implement large-scalemanufacturing processes that will help us make thehighest quality products at the best prices.”

The annual AVN Novelty Expo has made a name for itself as the place to attend top-notch educational seminars on industry issues. This year AVNhas dramatically expanded its seminars and workshops for the 2015 expo, taking place January 21-23 at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Las Vegas.

“Each and every year we do our best to hit topics that are important to all members of the pleasure products industry, from retailers tomanufacturers and everyone in between,” said Sherri L. Shaulis, senior editor of pleasure products for AVN. “Now, by expanding the number ofseminars and workshops we offer, we can delve deeper into several issues, and even offer a few new types of gatherings.”

Seminars will take place between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. all three days of the show. The seminars will be held in Studio 1A, on the ground floor ofthe Paradise Tower.
