I feel overwhelmed to see the growth of ISM over the last few years. It gives me all the more satisfaction to see the alumni growing in their corporate ladders.

The capacity to know how other feels is important on the job for a performer or a leader. A well known psychologist has very rightly mentioned “intelligence is an ability to perceive their own and others’ internal states, motivation and behaviour and act accordingly.” Therefore intelligence is undefined and unmeasured. Department of Business Management has continually upgraded itself in terms of academic programmes and all research infrastructure including state of the art facilities. The very motto of our department is to provide quality education.

Head of Department Message

The Institute of Science and Management (ISM, Ranchi) carries with it a rich legacy of more than 29 years in the field of higher education. It was in 1985 that the foundation of the Institute was laid by the founder Chairman Dr. Sachidanand, former Vice-Chancellor of Ranchi University. ISM’s mission, from the very beginning, has been to work with business, industry and corporate houses to create programmes that allow students to build their knowledge and skills and prepare for successful careers. The Institute runs several programmes under its name with the Flagship 2-year, full-time Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), equivalent to MBA, which was launched in 1988. The Institute has expanded under the dynamic and visionary leadership of our Chairman, Prof. R A K Verma. The Institute has made steady progress and emerged as one of the leading Management Institutes of India under

the dynamic leadership qualities of Prof. R. N. Singh, Executive Vice Chairman, occupying 5th position in Eastern India as rated by Careers 360 (an Outlook Group magazine), and receiving A+ grade by Business India in their 2011 B-school survey.

The Institute is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India and is affiliated to the State Board of Technical Education (SBTE), Govt. of Jharkhand. It is located in the western outskirts of the city of Ranchi, hardly 4-7 Kilometers from Ranchi Railway Station, Birsa Munda Airport and major Bus Stands. Ideally situated amidst scenic beauty and rural surroundings, the Institute has all modern facilities of transport and communication.

The Department of Management Studies runs the following courses recognized by the AICTE, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India, New Delhi and SBTE, Govt. of Jharkhand. The students go through a rigorous and continuous evaluation system for each subject throughout the semester.

2-YeAR FuLL tiMe POSt GRADuAte DiPLOMA iN MANAGeMeNt (PGDM)

QQ The PGDM Programme is a 2-year Full Time Course, which ensures a strong theoretical concept, based exposure to realistic situations in the industry and makes the learning process vibrant and relevant.

QQ The first year Foundation Courses equip the students with comprehensive knowledge.

QQ The core courses in the second year provide the multifunctional policy and strategy dimensions.

QQ The elective courses offered in the second year i.e. the 3rd and 4th semesters, are in the areas of IT, Marketing, HRM & Finance.

ObjectiveQQ To enable the students to make an in-depth analysis of current management scenario

through the programme

QQ To encourage personal commitment and builds confidence through its emphasis on ethics, values and discipline.

RecognitionQQ The Course is duly recognised by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Govt. of

India.

EligibilityQQ Graduation in any stream and good percentile in any of the Management aptitude tests i.e.

C-MAT/MAT/CAT/XAT/ATMA etc.

BBA & BCA DeGRee COuRSeSQQ Certificate is being awarded by UGC Approved University.

QQ Eligibility : The basic qualification for admission to BBA, BCA is Class XII in any discipline. Students expecting their Class XII result may also apply.

QQ Admission Procedure : Candidates should apply through Application form. After short listing on the basis of Academic Qualification, they have to appear for Personal Interview & Group discussion.

Admission to the 2-year PG Diploma Programme in Management at ISM, Ranchi will be through the C-MAT/MAT/CAT/XAT/ATMA. Candidates seeking admission may please observe the following procedure.

QQ Apply to C-MAT/MAT/CAT/XAT/ATMA in response to their notification, which appears in leading dailies all over India

QQ Simultaneously apply to ISM, Ranchi on the ISM Application form for admission to PG Programme

QQ Candidates will be short listed on the basis of MAT/XAT/CAT/ATMA/C-MAT Score

QQ Short listed candidates will be called to ISM for Group Discussion and Interview for final selection

Class RoomsThe Institute has more than ten class rooms of different sitting capacities, provided with spacious Smart board, black & white writing boards, slide projectors, overhead projectors and LCD Projectors. To enhance the presentation of Lectures, Seminars, Workshops and other academic exercises, the Institute has a good Audio-visual setup too.

Computer CentreThe Computer Centre is fully air-conditioned with state-of-the-art infrastructure that has made teaching, learning, documentation, research and development highly effective. The Centre is well equipped with latest systems including 1 Red Hat Linux server. All client nodes have Fedora Release 11 operating system (Gnome 2.26.1) with Open Office 3, and Mozilla Firefox 3.5 application suite. The Centre with its 6 Mbps, RF Tower based RailTel broadband service and 5 high-range Internet Access Points offers a full-fledged Wi-Fi environment in the campus.

LibraryThe fully-computerised ISM Library has a large number of books, periodicals and journals, including latest publications in Business Management, Hotel Management, Tourism Management and cognate subjects. The Library has a collection of around 15,000 volumes, both of foreign and Indian publishers. In addition, the Library has subscription of Proquest e-journal that provides access to thousands of reputed journals and research papers from across the globe.

AuditoriumISM having an auditorium with a sitting capacity of 300 persons. It is fully equipped with all the modern facilities viz. Public Address System, Multi-media Projector, Acoustics etc. to facilitate the events.

Conference HallA full featured air conditioned conference hall is a state-of-the-art support facility to host workshops, small seminars, symposium and other activities which adds value to the academic system.

Transport FacilityFree Transportation is provided to the local and outstation students residing with their parents and off campus hostels. The buses strictly follow their scheduled time and stoppages.

HostelSeparate hostel for boys and girls hostels are available with all the modern facilities like – Geyser, 24 hour power and water supply etc. The combined capacity of on and off campus hostels is around 325 students. Students have to apply for the room at time of admission.

Institute of Science and Management, Ranchi (ISM, Ranchi) has an independent Training & Placement Cell (TPC) that serves as an important link between the students, the alumni and the prospective recruiters. It plays a very important role in mentoring, counselling and guiding the students for their successful placement in different organizations. The T&PC keeps close liaison with various industrial establishments which conduct campus interviews and select students from all disciplines. The training activities are organized throughout the year in an effort towards preparing the prospective students for the campus selection.
