After Michele Martin had watched her mother make kettle corn over the last 15 years, even helping her perfect the recipe, she decided she should start a business selling it full time. So Martin and Steve Marshall teamed up to create Mr. and Mrs. Wonderful’s Fine Fair Foods three years ago, us-ing a similar recipe to Martin’s mother’s.

“It seemed like something that would get us around to different events, see different things and it’s not the same nine-to-five desk job,” Martin said.

The duo normally sells their kettle corn at events, festivals, rodeos and farmers markets. During the summer they are at a different festival every weekend. They travel as far as Naches, Washington. They do not sell at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds be-cause the vendor fee is too high, Martin said, and they like to keep their prices as low as possible.

This summer, as the CO-VID-19 pandemic shuttered nearly every event, festival and large gathering statewide, they were forced to cancel what would have been their biggest year yet. Every event they had booked from mid-March to the beginning of October was canceled, includ-ing what would have been their first trip to Barter Faire, a large annual event in Tonas-ket, Washington that features

vendors, musicians, artists and craftspeople from all over the country.

“This was the year we were actually going to make money because we had already dumped all the money into it we needed to to get what we needed,” Martin said.

That meant Mr. and Mrs. Wonderful’s Fine Fair Foods instead spent the summer focused solely on attend-ing three farmers markets, manning its booths at one in Cowlitz County, the Centralia Farmers Market, which just closed for the year, and the Chehalis Community Farmers Market, which closes at the end of October.

“If it weren’t for the farm-ers markets, I probably would have had to sell the business,” Martin said. “So I’m thankful for the farmers markets.”

It would take a long list to

name every type of kettle corn Mr. and Mrs. Wonderful’s Fine Fair Foods creates. Some of the most popular ones are the rainbow bag, which has eight different flavors in it, along with a caramel corn, regular kettle corn, a slightly-burnt caramel corn and a red and blue Superman mix. They also have a honey flavor that uses local, raw honey from Hive 5 Bees in Grand Mound, which has a more natural sweetness than processed sugar. Their most popular flavor right now is the snickerdoodle, which they only make in the fall. The only types they don’t make are the gourmet flavors, such as cheddar or dill.

“Their shelf life isn’t as long and I find that there’s not enough people in Washington that want to buy it,” Martin said. “It’s more of a waste than anything.”

Creating a batch of kettle corn takes Martin and Mar-shall a mere six minutes. The caramel takes a bit longer as it needs to cool before it can be put in the custom-made bags. They can get five bags

out of one batch with their giant, industrial-sized steam-jacketed kettle. It takes this specialized kettle to create kettle corn as regular pop-corn doesn’t pop up big and round like kettle corn. Kettle corn is exploded at tempera-tures of up to 500 degrees fahrenheit.

Standard-sized bags cara-mel and kettle corn goes for $5, while the other flavors run $6 a bag, and the prices go up for larger-sized bags. Beyond kettle corn, the business also offers 32-ounce lemonade drinks and over 20 flavors of cotton candy as well. They

both cost $5 each.“I usually put three of four

flavors in the bag, and then if I’m at an event and you come up you can choose two of your own flavors if you don’t want one of the bags I’ve already made,” Martin said. “We try to keep our prices fair for our fair foods.”

Martin and Marshall plan to sell elephant ears next year and are constructing a build-ing on the property to house the business and supply retail and grocery stores with their kettle corn.

DEAR HEARTBROKEN: I wish you had revealed what this gentleman is afraid to tell his ex. Could it be that he is involved with you? If so, this is a red flag. His unwillingness or inability to tell the truth is a serious charac-ter flaw and not something you should ignore.

DEAR ABBY: I am a single man who recently met a widow who is nine years older. We connected via an online dating site.

At the end of our three-hour conversation, she said, “No man will ever share my bed.” This is because of her second husband, who died six years ago. She said if a man shared her bed, she felt it would be cheating on her late husband.

When she said it, I was sur-prised and shocked. I hadn’t asked her if she would share my (or another man’s) bed. What are your thoughts on this, and do a lot of widows adhere to this prac-tice? Should this be considered a deal-breaker in a potential re-lationship? And would replacing the bed with a new one help? — SLEEPLESS IN SAN DIEGO

DEAR SLEEPLESS: Some

widows — and widowers — be-come celibate after the death of their spouse. A phrase I have heard used is, “I’ve had the best, and no one can ever replace _______.” I also know women and men who, after their grief has lessened, have gone on to have happy, success-ful second or third marriages.

What the woman you were talking with was doing was eradicating any expectation you might have had about a sexual relationship with her. She should have specified on her profile that sex was off the table. Be glad she was honest.

This would be a deal-breaker for any man who is interested in maintaining his sex life. While replacing her mattress might have been a helpful suggestion, I doubt she would have been receptive. According to the mail I receive, amorous couples make love in many places besides the bedroom.

DEAR ABBY: I read you every day. My daughter, the oldest of four children, and I had a falling-out because I paid for her educa-tion but she couldn’t be thankful. She was very entitled as a child, but it was important to me that she graduated. She’s a school-teacher now.

When she asked me to pay for her wedding, I said, “Will you be thankful this time?” She stomped out and said, “I’ll do it myself!” I learned today that she went gown shopping with my mom and her fiance’s mother and excluded me. I am so angry, hurt and sad that I don’t even want to go to the wedding anymore. I could use some advice here. — SAD IN ARKANSAS

DEAR SAD: I’m surprised you had to demand gratitude from your daughter. She may have not learned appreciation because she was always handed every-

thing she wanted, so now she ex-pects your role in her life to con-tinue on that path. That she went gown shopping without inviting you was her way of punishing you for not forking over the money for her wedding. (I wonder if your mother and her fiance’s mother are contributing.)

I do not think you should skip her wedding, regardless of how tempted you may be. That said, it is important you realize a pattern has been established in your rela-tionship with your daughter, and she may use your grandchildren as pawns to manipulate you, so be prepared.

DEAR ABBY: I am a small busi-ness owner. My store has local (repeat) and one-time customers. The other day, while checking out, one of my local custom-ers spewed out a verbal and extremely bigoted rant. I was stunned speechless. I felt I should do something, but I wasn’t sure what it should be. I have started losing sleep over it. If it happens again, should I remain silent and keep the peace, or stand up for all Americans and lose this customer and probably more? — FREAKED OUT IN FLORIDA

DEAR FREAKED OUT: To paraphrase a well-known saying, “All that’s necessary for evil to flourish is for good men to ignore it and say nothing.” If the rant your bigoted customer spewed was aimed at another shopper, you had a responsibility to pro-tect the victim of the onslaught. In the future, it would not be out of line to state firmly that you don’t want that kind of talk in your establishment. While doing that may (or may not) lose you a few customers, you would at least be able to sleep better than you’re sleeping now.

P.S. It may also GAIN you some customers once word gets around.

DEAR ABBY: I have been with the same doctor for 15 years, only requiring an annual checkup. The problem is, the office is about a 40-minute drive, longer if I hit a rush hour. I have stayed with the provider because the care is so good. However, I recently found

a doctor who is 10 minutes away and provides the same quality of care. Do I call the original doctor to let them know I am leaving the practice? Write a note? Leave it alone? What is the proper protocol? — GOOD PATIENT IN MICHIGAN

DEAR PATIENT: Contact your longtime doctor’s office and ask either that your medical records be sent to your new doctor’s of-fice, or they be readied for you to pick up so you can deliver them yourself. In light of the fact that you have had a 15-year relation-ship with “Longtime Doctor,” it would be nice if you wrote a letter thanking him/her for taking such good care of you all these years and explain that the commute has become more than you can now handle, which is why you are leaving.

DEAR ABBY: I was sitting around bored with nothing to do and started thinking about my classmates from 1960. I hadn’t seen or heard from some of them in more than 55 years, so I decid-ed to call them and found all but two. Boy, was it ever worth it!

Most of the conversations last-ed 30 minutes or more. I enjoyed hearing their voices and reminisc-ing about old times. I couldn’t be-lieve how quickly the day went by. It made me feel great, and I hope it did the same for them.

When I told them why I was calling, some of them thought it was such a good idea they were

DEAR DUDE: If you’re in great shape and the neighbors aren’t scandalized, then what I think doesn’t matter. (Swim) suit yourself.

I will, however, offer this: A wise woman once advised me to always look my best when I went out because invariably, if I didn’t, I’d encounter someone I wished I looked better for and regret that I hadn’t made more effort. And you know what? She was spot on.

As movie theaters struggle to survive in the wake of

shutdowns caused by the CO-VID-19 pandemic, fans miss-ing their favorite Hollywood stars find themselves turning to television to fill the void. Luckily, a few of the industry’s biggest talents are headed to the small screen in a gripping drama that will keep viewers guessing.

Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman (“Big Little Lies”) stars as Grace Fraser, a therapist who dis-covers that her seemingly idyllic life may be far from perfect in the wake of a shocking death in “The Undo-ing,” premiering Sunday, Oct. 25, on HBO. Based on Jean Hanff Korelitz’s novel “You Should Have Known,” the six-part thriller also stars Hugh Grant (“Notting Hill,” 1999) as Grace’s husband, Jonathan, and Donald Sutherland (“MASH,” 1970) as her father, Franklin Renner.

When the series opens, Grace becomes fascinated with another mom from her son’s school. Shortly thereafter, tragedy strikes the school community, setting off a chain of events that leads Grace to question whether she really knew her now-missing husband as she deals with a very public disaster. All the while, she tries to come to terms with the fact that she’s failed to heed her own advice as she struggles to rebuild a life for her family.

The story was adapted for the small screen by 11-time Emmy win-ner David E. Kelley (“Ally McBeal”), and this isn’t the first time he’s worked with Kidman. He created the recent hit HBO drama “Big Little Lies,” in which Kidman starred. In fact, her stint on two seasons of “Big Little Lies” led to Golden Globe and Emmy wins for the talented actress, who has also had high praise for Kelley’s work on “The Undoing.”

“David has created another pro-pulsive series with a fascinating, complicated female role at its cen-ter,” Kidman said in an official HBO.com release.

Lauded as one of the most suc-cessful actors of her generation, Oscar, Golden Globe and Emmy winner Kidman first came to the attention of American audiences

in such films as “Days of Thunder” (1990) and “Far and Away” (1992). The Australian actor went on to ap-pear in such blockbusters as “Bat-man Forever” (1995) and “Moulin Rouge!” (2001), while also earning praise for her performances in more serious fare such as her role as Vir-ginia Woolf in “The Hours” (2002), the role that earned her an Oscar.

Apparently, her co-star Grant wasn’t so quick to sign on to “The Undoing” because he had already decided to quit acting. Earlier in October, Kidman explained to Australia’s the Sunday Telegraph that she practically had to beg him to play the part of her husband in the series. The dramatic role marks a departure from the kinds of roles he rose to fame playing in romantic comedies such as “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” (1994) and “Notting Hill” (1999), however Grant has proven he’s far from one-dimen-sional, thanks to other dramatic turns in “Sense and Sensibility” (1995), “Florence Foster Jenkins” (2016) and the BBC miniseries “A Very English Scandal.”

Kidman and Grant are joined onscreen in “The Undoing” by a veritable entertainment industry legend, with Sutherland as wid-owed financier Franklin. With more than five decades of experience in film, Sutherland is often regarded as one of the most talented actors to have never been nominated for an Oscar, though he was honored with the Academy Honorary Award in 2017. Over the course of his career, he’s appeared in the now-classic films “The Dirty Dozen” (1967), “MASH” (1970), “Klute” (1971), “Ani-mal House” (1978) and “Ordinary People” (1980). He was also seen in “JFK” (1991), “A Time to Kill” (1996) and “Cold Mountain” (2003), which starred Kidman as well.

“The Undoing” also stars Edgar Ramírez (“Zero Dark Thirty,” 2012) as NYPD Det. Joe Mendoza, who rattles Grace as she tries to cooper-ate with the investigation. Some action-movie fans may remember the Venezuelan actor as CIA assas-sin Paz in “The Bourne Ultimatum” (2007), but Ramírez has more re-cently garnered acclaim for his por-trayal of Gianni Versace in FX’s “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.”

The rest of the cast includes young actor Noah Jupe (“Wonder,” 2017) as Grace and Jonathan’s

son, Henry, Lily Rabe (“American Horror Story”) as Sylvia Steineitz, Norma Dumezweni (“Mary Poppins Returns,” 2018) as Haley Fitzgerald, Sofie Gråbøl (“The Killing”) as Cath-erine Stamper, Matilda De Angelis (“The Prize,” 2017) as Elena Alves, and Ismael Cruz Córdova (“Ray Donovan”) as Fernando Alves.

Behind the scenes, Danish direc-tor Susanne Bier took the reins for all six episodes of the series. She’s best known in North America for her work on the film “Bird Box”

(2018) and the TV miniseries “The Night Manager.”

Fans are likely happy “The Un-doing” is finally making its way to the screen. Unlike a lot of other series, it has survived the COVID-19 pandemic despite a delay in its premiere. The thriller was originally slated to premiere on May 10, but in late March HBO confirmed the se-ries would move to the fall instead.

Although this fall TV season may not have as many new television shows, movies or special events,

series such as this offer a glimmer of hope for those of us who desire quality entertainment on the small screen. While the silver screen has offered fans the crème de la crème of entertainment for years, televi-sion is becoming home to content that is just as good, if not better — especially when it features the likes of Kidman and her co-stars. Watch her unravel as Grace Fraser in “The Undoing,” premiering Sunday, Oct. 25, on HBO.

“Bad Hair” (2020)If you thought you were having a bad hair day, think again. “Bad Hair,” the new horror-comedy from the mind behind “Dear White People,” is pre-miering exclusively on Hulu, Friday, Oct. 23. When she feels pressured by societal standards to get a weave to fit into her new job in music television, Anna (Elle Lorraine, “Insecure”) be-gins to experience some strange and unexplained events. As time goes on and her situation worsens, it becomes clear that Anna’s hair is fighting back in a very otherworldly way. Worse yet, her new hairstyle might just come at the cost of the swanky job she was trying so hard to keep. Justin Simeon (“Rings,” 2006) wrote and directed this darkly comedic social-commen-tary film that also stars big names Jay Pharaoh (“Saturday Night Live”), James Van Der Beek (“Dawson’s Creek”) and Lena Waithe (“Master of None”).

“Cyrano, My Love” (2019)Fall in love with the theater this month as “Cyrano, My Love,” a comedy about a comedy, comes Wednesday, Oct. 21, to Hulu. French playwright Ed-mond Rostand (portrayed by Thomas Solivérès, “Sales gosses,” 2017) has it all; well, if you consider “having it all”

to mean two kids, ridicule from his friends, a world of anxiety and a failing career. Desperate not to live with his writer’s block any longer, he pitches a play idea on the fly to famous stage ac-tor Constant Coquelin (Olivier Gour-met, “The Young Karl Marx,” 2017), who, remarkably, loves it. The problem now lies in that there is nothing yet written. Relying on his writer’s instinct, imagination and cues from the world around him, Rostand begins to craft one of France’s most beloved comedic plays — the tale of the creative alliance between a dim-witted pretty boy and a large-nosed but kind-hearted poet — “Cyrano de Bergerac.” This French-language film was written, adapted for the screen and directed by the multi-talented Alexis Michalik (“At Eternty’s Gate,” 2018) and also stars Mathilde Seigner (“With a Friend Like Harry…,” 2000) and Alice de Lencquesaing (“Headfirst,” 2012).

“Friend Request” (2016)Be careful what you put on social media because it might just come back to haunt you — “Friend Re-quest” is coming to Hulu on Sunday, Oct. 18. When young Laura (Alycia Debnam-Carey, “Fear the Walking Dead”) posts photos of her night out to Facebook, a mysterious campus outcast named Marina (Liesl Ahlers, “Daylight,” 2018) is inexplicably up-set with her. Proceeding to unfriend the loner from her account — an act

ultimately undoing her original ges-ture of generosity and acceptance — Laura hears that Marina has recently committed suicide. “Mirzapur” Season 2Get in on the action and escape to India, for the weekend by binge-watching “Mirzapur,” back for a sec-ond season, Friday, Oct. 23, on Prime. Everyone’s favorite Indian crime-thriller series returns for another nine-episode season that is sure to be just as action-packed as the first. Centered around government corruption, mafia plots and featuring a lot of guns, drugs and crime, “Mirzapur” captivated audiences when Season 1 premiered in 2018. Now, after a full season worth of deceit, double-crosses and death, Season 2 will bring to light the conse-quences of the first season’s actions. Both Golu (Shweta Tripathi, “The Trip”) and Guddu (Ali Fazal, “Victoria & Abdul,” 2017) team up for some mutually beneficial revenge, while Sharad (Anjum Sharma, “Slumdog Millionaire,” 2008) creates plans of his own. Meanwhile, Munna (Divyendu Sharma, “Chashme Baddoor,” 2013) will have to be wary of his father’s pun-ishment following his failure to take over the family business. This popular Hindi-language series was created by showrunners Karan Anshuman and Puneet Krishna, both of “Inside Edge” and “Bangistan” (2015) fame.

“Get Duked!” (2020)Get lost in the Scottish Highlands with the award-winning black comedy “Get Duked!” available now on Prime. This is the first full-length feature film from writer/director Ninian Doff (“The Chemical Brothers: We’ve Got to Try,” 2019) and it follows four hip-hop-loving teenage boys — Duncan

(Lewis Gribben, “T2 Trainspotting,” 2017), Dean (Rian Gordon, “Final Score,” 2018), Ian (Samuel Bottomley, “Tyrannosaur,” 2011) and one who goes by the name of DJ Beetroot (Viraj Juneja, “Home Girl,” 2019) — as their Duke of Edinburgh Awards program hiking trip turns chaotic when they need to avoid a menacing collective of hunters. While the film has a deeply engrained horror vibe, it is, at its base, definitely a satire. Also starring the absurdly comical Eddie Izzard (“Across the Universe,” 2007), this quirky sur-vival story features the work of music director Sophie Urquhart (“Kissing Candice,” 2017) and Scottish music producer Bobby “S-Type” Perman in his movie debut.

“Inside the Mind of a Serial Killer” Season 1For those who prefer a more true-to-life take on horror this Halloween season, check out Season 1 of “Inside the Mind of a Serial Killer,” available now on Prime. Taking an inside look at the thoughts and plans of some of the world’s most notorious serial murders, this 10-episode true crime docuseries might just be enough to keep you awake at night. Delving deep into the psyches of the Norwegian terrorist An-ders Breivik, English triple murderer Joanna Dennehy and the Slumdog Cannibal, Surinder Koli, this show demonstrates that the act of murder truly knows no bounds. Directed and narrated by Will Hanrahan (“Evil Up Close”), “Inside the Mind of a Serial Killer” is hosted by famed Canadian psychologist Linda Papadopoulos (“History’s Greatest Hoaxes”).

“The Goldfinch” (2019)Forge a link between life and art with “The Goldfinch,” available now on Prime. When his mother is killed in a terrorist bombing at the Metro-politan Museum of Art, 13-year-old Theo Decker’s (Oakes Fegley, “Pete’s Dragon,” 2016) life is turned upside down. As he tries to make sense of the events from the midst of the rubble, a dying old man convinces Theo to take the ring from his finger and a priceless painting: “The Goldfinch.” Hazily obey-ing the mysterious man’s request, the boy hides the work of art under the bed at his new guardians’ home and tries to move past that day’s horrific

“Roman Holiday” (1953)Just because there are travel restric-tions in place doesn’t mean you can’t still sightsee this month. Join Audrey Hepburn (“Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” 1961) and Gregory Peck (“To Kill a Mockingbird,” 1962) for the classic film “Roman Holiday,” now on Prime. “Rebecca” (2020)

Relive the story that never truly dies with “Rebecca,” premiering Wednesday, Oct. 21, on Netflix. When a beautiful young lady’s maid (Lily James, “Cinderella,” 2015) arrives in Monte Carlo for work, she soon falls head over heels in love with a wealthy and dashing man named Maxim de Winter (Armie Hammer, “Call Me by Your Name,” 2017). The couple is married and, soon after arriving at Manderley — his cold and dreary fam-ily estate in England — Mrs. de Winter begins to realize that things may not be exactly as they appear. Hearing a series of stories concerning Maxim’s first wife, Rebecca, the current Mrs. de Winter begins to grow suspicious of the husband she was recently united with. Based on the classic gothic fiction novel of the same name by Daphne du Maurier, this 2020 film, directed by Ben Wheatley (“High-Rise,” 2015) is — like the Oscar-winning 1940 Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece — an original take on the 1938 source material. It also stars Keeley Hawes (“Death at a Funeral,” 2007) as Beatrice Lacy, Bill Paterson (“How to Lose Friends and Alienate People,” 2008) as Dr. Baker and Kristin Scott Thomas (“The English Patient,” 1996) as the stark and sinister Mrs. Danvers.

“Cadaver” (2020)

Hungry for horror this Halloween? You’re in luck. The terrifying Norwe-gian film “Cadaver” is coming to a screen near you on Thursday, Oct.

22, courtesy of the popular stream-ing service Netflix. Following a tragic nuclear disaster that left many hungry and scrounging for their next meals, a three-person family takes up a mysterious offer for a fancy dinner in exchange for their involvement in a play for charity at a local hotel. Upon their arrival, the host (Thorbjørn Harr, “Vikings”) distributes a mask to each participant and sets the parameters for the production about to begin. When the night kicks off, however, and their daughter, Alice (budding actress Tuva Olivia Remmen), goes missing, her parents, Leonora (Gitte Witt, “The Sleepwalker,” 2014) and Jacob (Thom-as Gullestad, “The 12th Man,” 2017), begin to suspect a different, more sinister, reason behind the swanky gathering. This dark commentary on human nature and the cutthroat quest for survival was directed by rising star Jarand Herdal (“Everywhen,” 2013).

“The Queen’s Gambit”Get ready to plot your next move with “The Queen’s Gambit,” premiering Friday, Oct. 23, on Netflix. This six-part miniseries, which comes from the mind of acclaimed novelist Walter Tevis — the author behind the “The Hustler” (1961), “The Man Who Fell to Earth” (1976) and “The Color of Money” (1986) — paints a seedy pic-

ture of the underworld of chess. Set in Cold War-era Kentucky, Beth Harmon’s (Anya Taylor-Joy, “The Witch,” 2015)

parents brought her up to believe

that she is just as powerful as any

man. When she suddenly becomes

orphaned at the age of 8, young Beth

channels her life into playing chess,

learning how to dominate the game

with each precisely calculated move

of a wooden piece. Of course, by the

time she competes in the U.S. Open

Chess Championship at the age of 16,

the stakes have gotten higher and her

fear begins to grow; a fear, due in part,

to her ominous Russian opponent.

This series, directed by the Oscar-

nominated Scott Frank (“Logan,”

2017), also stars Thomas Brodie-Sang-

Q: Will “The Good Doctor” and “The Resident” be on again this fall?

A: The prognosis for both of these medical dramas is good, but “The Good Doctor” came out of the pandemic a little healthier than its cohort.

“The Good Doctor” is com-ing back with a roar, returning to ABC’s schedule on Monday, Nov. 2, among the first crop of scripted shows returning to air.

“The Resident,” on the other hand, has yet to get a return date from Fox, though that might have more to do with the network’s de-sire to get a schedule out quickly.

Fox released its fall schedule way back in May, the first broad-cast network to announce its post-pandemic fall schedule. That was prior to production resuming in Hollywood, meaning Fox could only include shows for which they already had episodes in the can, or else a concrete plan for filming them.

It seems “The Resident” didn’t fit that bill, so it didn’t make the fall cut (its Tuesday night slot was filled instead by “Cosmos: Possible Worlds”); but it has been renewed for a fourth season, so it’s just a matter of time before it’s back on the air.

Though both ABC and Fox are eager to put the pandemic shut-down behind them, their compet-ing medical shows will both focus on COVID-19 when they return. And how could they not, really?

Depicting a medical environment not impacted by the pandemic would hardly be believable these days.

“’The Resident’ didn’t need to bring in outside consultants to learn about the pandemic, as we have a doctor and nurse on our writing staff who have lived it first-hand,” the show’s co-creator, Amy Holden Jones, said in an interview

with US magazine.Q: Did “Alfred Hitchcock

Presents” do an episode based on his movie “The Birds”? I remem-ber seeing something like that on TV.

A: You did indeed see some-thing like that on TV, but it wasn’t on “Alfred Hitchcock Presents.”

It’s an easy mistake to make. The

scary anthology show was a com-petitive field in the late ‘50s and early ‘60s, with “The Twilight Zone,” “The Outer Limits” and “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” all competing to creep out viewers each week.

Those three are the best-known ones, but they had an-other competitor: “Thriller.” That’s the show that aired an episode about murderous fowl, two years before Hitchcock released his 1963 big-screen classic “The Birds.”

The “Thriller” episode, “Pi-geons from Hell,” is about a pair of stranded motorists who are pursued by a gaggle of reanimated corpses, including

a particularly threatening flock of undead pigeons (hence the title).

The pigeon scene is definitely reminiscent of “The Birds,” but there’s no suggestion of fowl play here (I couldn’t resist).

Indeed, neither “Thriller” nor Hitchcock came up with the idea. “Pigeons from Hell” was based on a short story by the great pulp writer Robert E. Howard, better known as the creator of “Conan the Barbarian.”
