Eindhoven, The Netherlands, May 20, 2008 - NXP Semiconductors, the independent company founded by Philips, has marked the progress of its environmentally conscious design process by announcing the production of the 400 millionth GreenChip™, a highly energy-efficient family of ICs for use in consumer and computing power supplies. Thanks to these GreenChip™ products, which have been reducing the power required for PCs, laptops and TVs for ten years, NXP has helped save the same amount of energy that would have been required to light 16.5 million regular 60w light bulbs.

NXP also announced availability of its next generation of GreenChip™products for PCs. The company calculates that if these were installed in all PCs around the world, three standard (1GigaWatt) power stations could be immediately decommissioned.
