We were established in 1989 in Swedish Lapland and still make tents there today.

Our Nordic tipis take inspiration from the kåta, the traditional home of the semi-nomadic Sami people.

The kåta is a simple cone-shaped frame of wooden poles covered with animal hides, with an opening at the top to let out smoke.

Our tipis are based upon the traditional design principles of the Sami kåta, coupled with innovative new features, modern materials and the latest construction techniques.

T HE VISION BEHIND T EN T IPI

Our mission is to make the best Nordic tipis in the world, and to treat our customers, staff and the environment with respect.

Bengt Grahn’s innovative idea to make a tipi where the sides could be raised, led to the formation of the worldwide Nordic tipi event industry.

Bengt still runs Tentipi today, with his lifelong passion for innovation and design.

OVER 30 YE ARS OF DESIGN AND

INNOVAT ION

Circa 1993, early model of the Giant Hat, later to become the Stratus 72. Many refinements since then but little change in Bengt’s original design.

It’s been over three decades since our founder and CEO, Bengt Grahn, made his first Nordic tipi.

The creation of the Stratus 72, originally called the Giant Hat, marked the beginning of the Nordic tipi industry.

The continual refinement of joining techniques, and an almost limitless number of possible configurations, is what sets the Stratus 72 apart from other temporary structures. It’s central to the Tentipi story.

Our structures are used for a diverse range of events. From English country weddings to Australian beach parties, yoga retreats in Texas to music festivals in Mauritius. From VIP areas at Glastonbury Festival to corporate events in San Francisco.

In recent years, we have seen our tipis offer more outdoor possibilities for customers. From luxury glamping sites to outdoor education settings and hospitality spaces. Our tipis offer a practical solution with enviable longevity.

Here’s to the growing family of Tentipi customers. Here’s to the next 30 years.

“ Great products are

defined by their details.

When you are out there

in the wind and the rain

the details matter. ”

11

L AB-TESTED TIMBERNot all timber is equal. We lab-test our timber to measure its various characteristics and feed these figures into our structural calculations. The species of timber and the location in which it is cut are vital to its strength.

2

11

OUTSTANDING CANVAS TO KEEP THE RAIN OUTOur custom made canvas took three years to develop. It has much better water repellent properties than the best off-the-shelf canvas we’ve ever found.

1

IN-TENT VENT™Our In-Tent Vent ventilator cap is adjusted from inside the tipi, solving the issue caused by external smoke cap ropes - especially on linked tipis.

5

CANVAS ATTACHMENT POINTSBoth the Stratus and Cirrus 72s have two attachment points on each main pole. These 18 fixings are crucial for our structural calculations. They prevent rotation of the canvas on the frame and perform a vital function when sides are raised.

8

SUSTAINABLE TIMBER AND NO CHEMICALSDue to its immense strength, the specific species of spruce we use for our poles does not require the use of unpleasant chemicals to prevent rot.

9

SEWN IN ONE PIECERather than using the easier method of lacing, all of our tipi canvases are sewn in one piece. By doing so we avoid the leak risks associated with the lacing method.

7

AESTHETICALLY PLEASING POLESOur de-barked poles have a beautiful natural look, avoiding any machining or artificial staining common in processed timbers. Every pole is unique, as nature intended, an intrinsic part of the character of a tipi.

10

STAKES AND GROUND ANCHORSStakes cast in a single piece ensure the head can’t fall off. Ground anchors provide around 6 times the holding power of a single vertical stake.

12

BAND PINSWhen raising the sides of a Stratus our band pins firmly secure the roof poles to the main poles. There are three different sizes of band pins available to ensure that the poles are held tightly together.

11

FIRE RE TARDANT FABRICOur canvases comply with all relevant international flame retardant standards, including the USA, UK and Australia. The fire retardant properties of our fabric does not degrade over time, so no need for re-proofing.

4

STRUCTURAL CALCUL ATIONS Our tipis are fully engineered by a firm of professional structural engineers, specialising in temporary fabric structures. Sophisticated computer modelling assists with compliance to international standards.

3

SECONDARY POLESBoth the Stratus and Cirrus 72 are designed for use with 18 secondary poles when all sides are down. In high wind conditions it is very evident the crucial role they play in maintaining the stability of the tent.

6

STRATUS™ 72The Stratus 72 is the cornerstone of the Nordic tipi industry. It provides the ultimate in flexibility of any Nordic tipi.

It can be pitched all sides down, all sides up, or a combination of both. This is what enables multiple Stratus tipis to be linked in limitless configurations.

OFF-WHITE CANVAS

All of our Stratus, Cirrus and Nimbus tents are available in off-white canvas.

Our off-white canvas has the the same strength, feel and inherent fire retardancy as our traditional tan canvas. New fabric technology also gives this canvas outstanding weatherproofing and UV protection.

We recommend that off-white canvases are used in conjunction with our SmartPitch tool and bag, which helps to keep the canvas clean by keeping it off the ground.

TOOLS AND EXTRAS

SMARTPITCH™ E ASIER BUILDING

TIPISTAR™ OUR PATENTED HIGH WIND DE VICE

THE VIKING BUILD WITHOUT A LONG L ADDER

Getting the canvas onto the frame is physically the hardest part of the build process. With the new SmartPitch tool and technique it becomes lighter work.

There’s no need to spread the canvas out on the ground, making building in confined spaces much more straightforward.

Highly recommended for use with off-white canvases, helping to keep them clean.

We’ve broken new ground by developing a high wind device that enables Stratus and Cirrus 72s to be safe to use in 28m/s (62mph) of wind.

Higher wind loading in our Nordic tipis without compromising the aesthetics.

With more and more sites no longer allowing the use of long ladders, the Viking is an important tool to ensure Stratus and Cirrus can be used in the widest variety of venues.

It also makes building with two people a reality as it is physically less demanding.

30

BALLASTFLEX™The Tentipi BallastFlex system provides an effective and versatile solution for building tipis on ground where pegging is either not possible or not allowed.

The system has been developed in partnership with a team of independent Structural Engineers who specialise in temporary fabric structures. BallastFlex is the first system of its kind in the world. It has been professionally designed, verified and tested to meet the required vertical and horizontal ‘coefficients of friction’. This ensures the tipi is safe and stable under varying wind conditions, all of which is essential when seeking authorised sign-off for on-site permit approval.

BallastFlex is designed around an interconnecting system of metal plates, connecting bars, concrete blocks and rubber mats. It’s a completely versatile solution which can be used with any of the Tentipi Event range, in any number of configurations, for any number of linked tents. Its design and functionality also extends to all Tentipi WallFlex configurations.

BALL ASTFLE X RENTAL (UK ONLY )As an easy and cost effective alternative to purchase, in some countries, and exclusively to Tentipi Event Tent customers, we now offer our BallastFlex system for rental. Renting rather than purchasing BallastFlex is ideally suited to customers who might only occasionally require a ballast system, or might only require it for a short period of time. Availability is limited so rental of BallastFlex is offered on a first to book basis.

Since 2012, Ed Wright has been running Tentipi’s Event Tent distribution operation in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. In 2018 he took over the running of Tentipi UK & Ireland, from his great friend and colleague Jon Parr. Prior to this he spent 11 years running his own multi award winning tipi rental business, which he successfully sold in 2018.

All of this experience means there really isn’t much that Ed can’t tell you about setting up, running (and even selling) a successful tipi business with Tentipi Event Tents. He also loves to share his knowledge, so it’s Ed that takes care of investment planning sessions.

If you would like to book an investment planning session with Ed, or if you have any other questions about business processes, logistics, health and safety or anything else tipi related, please get in touch. Ed loves talking tipis.

For fixed venues, rental and event companies alike, there’s a lot to think about before deciding to invest in our Nordic tipis. This is why we provide free investment planning advice, via our online Tentipi Library, and a free one-to-one investment planning session with one of our experts.

Anyone interested in investing in Tentipi Event Tents can access a suite of tools, including an outline tipi business plan, sample cashflow forecast and a draft 3 year profit & loss spreadsheet.

Our free investment planning sessions helps you understand the overall capital investment required (over and above our tipis), revenue streams, fixed and variable overheads, cost of sales and much more.

We have years of real world experience, and love nothing more than to share our knowledge.

STRUCTURAL CALCUL ATIONSWe commissioned a firm of professional Structural Engineers, with specific experience of fabric structures, to calculate and produce a full set of engineered calculations. They underpin our Stratus and Cirrus tents, covering every approved link, and every combination of sides up and sides down, with TipiStar fitted and without.

The calculations consider the specific components of our Nordic tipis and use the results of laboratory testing of our timber, fabrics and sewing techniques.

These incredibly detailed calculations allow us to confidently assess the safe conditions in which our Nordic tipis can be used, and helps our customers to obtain permits and approval from regulatory authorities.

FABRICAll materials coming into our factories are subjected to numerous standardised tests (and a few we’ve invented ourselves) to ensure they comply with the expected specifications.

The custom-made fabric that we use for our canvases has the best water repellent properties we have ever found.

TIMBER POLESLaboratory testing our timber to destruction proved that our poles can only come from certain parts of the world where the trees grow very slowly. It is this slow growth, resulting in very dense growth rings, that gives a pole its strength. This is why we carefully control the exact species of spruce tree used in our Nordic tipis, and the latitudes at which they are cut.

The test results feed into our structural calculations and play a crucial role in determining the wind loading of our tents.

CANVAS AT TACHMENT POINTSBoth the Stratus and Cirrus 72s have two attachment points on each main pole. These 18 fixings are crucial for our structural calculations. They prevent rotation of the canvas on the frame and perform a vital function when sides are raised.

It took us 15 years to conclude the design of the fixing points we have today. Testing to destruction shows them to be far stronger than any other solutions we tried in the past.

T EST ING & SAFE T YOur mission at Tentipi is to make the best tents in the world. It is at the heart of

everything we do. Here are some examples of how we make this mission a reality.

We constantly strive to reduce our environmental impact, but becoming more sustainable as a business is always going to be a work in progress. We are making our production and office facilities ever more energy-efficient through responsible lighting, heating and travel decisions. We re-use, recycle and up-cycle everything we can, and source eco-labelled cleaning and office supplies.

SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENTAll of our tipi poles are sourced from sustainable forests in Northern Sweden, which are carefully managed by the Swedish Forest Board. The timber for our smaller tipis is a by-product of ongoing forest management, where smaller trees are felled to provide space for bigger trees to grow. When our larger poles are harvested, the forests are replanted and the cycle continues.

CANVAS – BUILT TO L ASTWe want our tents to last as long as they possibly can - for the benefit of our customers and the environment. To achieve this we apply a long-term perspective to the production of our canvases, minimising our consumption of energy and raw materials. We do this by using the highest quality fabrics that we can find and by offering our customers a repair service.

DISTRIBUTIONSea and land based transportation of our products is always the first choice for our distribution. The use of air freight is only used as a last resort on very rare occasions.

GIVING BACK We are committed to supporting organisations that share our environmental philosophy. As part of this commitment we support:

The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation – Sweden’s largest environmental organisation for the preservation of nature. The organisation spreads knowledge, charts environmental threats, proposes solutions and influences politicians and authorities, both nationally and internationally. Our contribution is divided between three areas of work: climate and energy, seas and fishing, and agriculture.

Visit www.naturskyddsforeningen.se

Vi Agroforestry – A Swedish development organisation that carries out long term work on poverty reduction and agroforestry projects in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania, four countries that have been severely impacted by the effects of climate change. Our contribution to Vi Agroforestry funds the planting of 5,000 trees per year along with ongoing agricultural education projects.
