THE DETROIT GRAND PRIX ASSOCIATION welcomes YOU!

W hether you are returning as a veteran of past races, or joining for the first time – WELCOME! We are a well-oiled machine in produc-

ing these races for Detroiters and we are pleased to have so many new volunteers this year!

You have joined a team of hard working dedicat-ed volunteers who enjoy the camaraderie of their team, catching up with their old friends and making new ones. Because so much has and will be changing, please keep checking your email and www.DetroitGP.com for updates.

We approach this final year on Belle Isle with mixed emotion. It’s a lovely location for the fans, for the drivers, and for us, but the plans and changes for ‘downtown’ in 2023 will boggle the mind.

This 2022 Handbook provides significant information you’ll need to know about the 2022 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear.

• Unlike recent years, there will be only one NTT INDYCAR SERIES race during our event, on Sunday, June 5. Highlighting Saturday will be the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship race.

• The Fountain Fan Area, located across from the Scott Fountain is a new destination within our venue, featuring a new hospitality area known as the Fountain Club and the new Jack Daniels Party Porch, open for the public to enjoy.

• The Entertainment Stage has been moved from the Meijer Fan Zone to the new Fountain Fan Area.

• Opening ceremonies for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES race have moved to the Scott Fountain.

• DGPA Food Services is back and will be located in the Flynn Pavilion with bath-rooms and air condi-tioning!

A s a volunteer, you are an important representative of the DGPA organization, the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, and the City of Detroit. Your appear-ance, attitude and actions are important to help make this event an enjoyable and pos-

itive experience for everyone involved. Please see the DGPA Code of Conduct for require-ments and expectations of DGPA members. CHURCH SERVICES: For guests and staff otherwise occupied during this incredible weekend, church services are available in the Media Center (the Casino Building) on Belle Isle. Services will be available only on Sunday morning; check for posted times. CREDENTIALS: DGPA members can pick up their credentials following the in-person Orientation Meeting on Saturday, May 21, at the University of Detroit Mercy Fitness Center. Those unable to pick up at that time can visit the Grand Prix Credential Center on Tuesday, May 31, between noon

and 7 p.m. This day has been reserved for our volun-teers, but you can stop by other days, knowing that you may have to wait! The Credential Center is locat-ed within the Outdoor Adventure Center, 1801 Atwa-ter Street at the corner of Orleans. There is free park-ing in a lot adjacent to the Outdoor Adventure Center.

Regardless of the date you choose, you must pick up your credential in person and have a val-id form of photo identification with you. Creden-tials cannot be picked up for you by someone else.

DGPA VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

I t was 1982 when Detroit Renaissance, Inc. brought our first lap of open wheel rac-ing to the streets of Detroit with a Formula One race. In 1989 it was still a street race, but with the CART World Series, sponsored by Valvoline. In 1992, our venue

relocated to the Raceway at Belle Isle Park and was brought to us by IMG (International Management Group.) Title sponsors were ITT Automotive (1992-1998) and Tenneco Automotive (1999-2001). The Detroit event was shut down from 2002-2006, but in 2007 IndyCar returned to Belle Isle for two years, thanks to Roger Penske and the Downtown Detroit Partnership, with presenting sponsors Firestone and Bosch. Due to economic conditions, the event was put on hold again from 2009-2011, but the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix returned in 2012, thanks to the considerable support of Chevrolet. This year, 2022, will be the 32nd time Detroit has hosted a Grand Prix race and, sadly, the 22nd and final year for the race to be held on Belle Isle. It returns to the streets of downtown Detroit next year, anchored by the GM Renais-sance Center.

The one constant factor during all of these years has been our outstanding volunteer organization, making the wheels turn in Detroit, the Detroit Grand Prix Association (DGPA).

HOW IT ALL STARTED!

Page 3

If you are unable to obtain your credential on one of these days, arrangements must be made through your supervisor.

All DGPA volunteers will be issued an official race credential that will provide admission to the circuit. You must sign a waiver or, if you are under 18, have your guardian sign a waiver for you. You will also receive a parking pass and your official DGPA t-shirts, along with a Grand Prix cap. Your CREDENTIAL and DGPA T-SHIRT must be worn at all times while on duty. Credentials cannot be replaced.

DRESS CODE: In order to present ourselves in a most professional manner, DGPA volunteers must dress in a clean, neat and tasteful manner. You are asked to wear the official 2022 DGPA shirts with black, white or khaki Docker-style pants as the official uniform clothing. Some areas may allow shorts or jeans, so check with your DGPA Area Manager.

If you plan to spend time at the circuit after your work shift, please bring an-other shirt to wear when you are not working, especially if you plan to con-sume alcoholic beverages.

Don’t forget those comfortable, closed-toe shoes! You’ll likely be on your feet for many hours and cover a lot of territory. The terrain is grass, dirt, gravel, cement and MAYBE mud and puddles! Also be prepared in terms of sunglasses, sunscreen, rain gear, ear plugs, aspirin or prescriptions. There is no secured storage for any items you bring, so it is advisable to bring along a small backpack or other wearable bag. EVALUATIONS: All DGPA volunteers are evaluated at the end of the race by their supervisor to determine if the volunteer met expectations and commitments, as outlined in the DGPA Code of Conduct. The results of this evaluation will ascertain if the member will be invited to return next year. FIRST AID: On race weekend, comprehensive emergency medical treatment will be provided by Detroit Medical Center staff. If you become ill or injured, contact your Supervisor or Area Manager. Medical technicians will be stationed throughout the circuit. The DMC first-aid centers are located:

• Adjacent to City of Windsor Grandstand 2 • At the Casino area (Medical Central)

VOLUNTEER FOOD & BEVERAGE: Lunch vouchers will be distributed to team mem-bers by Area Managers, Supervisors or Captains each day. DGPA Food Services will be located in the Flynn Pavilion. Coffee and light refreshments will be available at 6:00 am. Water available all day. Access to this location will be restricted to DGPA volunteers only – no family or friends – and credentials must be visi-ble.

Lunch will be served between 10:30 am — 4:00 pm each day, Friday through Sunday.

NOTE: We are unable to fill special dietary needs such as fat-free, salt-free, carb-free, sugar-free, vegetarian, halal or kosher. Volunteers who require special meals should plan to bring their own. Refrigeration is available for food or medication.

We make every effort to keep our volunteers supplied with chilled water. Please check with your supervisor if the supply of ice and water in your area is low.

PARKING FOR VOLUNTEERS: No parking is available on Belle Isle except with special Parking Per-mits. Volunteer parking will be in the Red Lot located between Franklin and Atwater, and St. Antoine and Rivard. You will receive a parking pass, map and directions with your credentials. Round-trip shuttle service hours are:

◦Friday, June 3: 6:00 am – 8:00 pm ◦Saturday, June 4: 6:00 am – 8:00 pm ◦Sunday, June 5: 6:00 am – 9:00 pm

PHONES: All DGPA Managers have a master list of phone numbers. Cell service on Belle Isle has been enhanced by an additional tower provided by Verizon. However, due to Belle Isle’s proximity to Cana-da, be wary of signal bouncing and roaming charges from Canada. PHOTO HOLES: DGPA members are not allowed to utilize the photo holes in the safety fencing around the circuit. The only people allowed access to these photo holes will be ap-proved by the Media Center and will be wearing series-issued photo vests. VOLUNTEER DEPARTMENT OFFICES: This year, most DGPA departments will be headquar-tered on the first floor of the Casino Building. • Transportation will have an Outside-the-Track office in a trailer placed along Riverbank,

just east of Picnic Way along with one in the Casino. • Customer Relations and Ticket Scanners will remain in a trailer outside the circuit, adja-

cent to the Ticketing Compound.

T he Raceway at Belle Isle Park is a temporary road course. Track length is 2.35 miles, with 13 turns, five pedestrian bridges, two reserved seat grandstands (both with ADA viewing,) 3 general admission grandstands, two chalet areas

and 2 additional hospitality areas. Course direction for all racing and service vehicles move in a clockwise direction, beginning at the Start/Finish line, in front of Grand-stand #1. One street level crossing is located east of the Chevrolet Bridge at Picnic Way. Circuit Marshalls regulate the crossing times according to track activity, and the scheduled track crossing times are posted. ATM/BANK MACHINES: There will be no ATM machines on the Island and no cash will be accepted as a form of pay-ment. BICYCLES Bicycle parking is available adjacent to the Belle Isle Boathouse outside the main admission gate. They are not permitted inside the venue.

1. Chevrolet Pedestrian Bridge – There will be two bridges, one for ingress and egress to connect the Midway to inside the Circuit, crossing over the race track.

2. Midway Canal Bridge – Connects the Midway, over the canal, to the City of Windsor Grandstand #2, and Grandstand #1

3. Huntington Bank Paddock Bridge – Provides access to the Fifth Third Bank Pad-dock, the City of Windsor International Media Center, Citizens Trackside Chalets, and DTE Front Stretch Chalets.

CAR CORRAL (Michelin): The Michelin Car Corral is split between two locations this year. Tickets are available for parking in the Corvette and Cadillac car corrals, located in the Detroit Boathouse parking lot while a variety of other marques make up a second Michelin Car Corral, located in the grassy lot across from the Boathouse off of Riverbank. EMERGENCIES, SAFETY and SECURITY: (Also see First Aid, page 3.) Please be assured that all of the appropriate agencies, including the Michi-gan State Police, Detroit Police Department, Homeland Security, FBI, U.S. Coast Guard, Immigration and Customs have been fully engaged in the development of our security plan. All protocols have been reviewed and deemed appropriate. Fire, Police, EMS, and Medical teams will be sta-tioned throughout the circuit.

If you cannot find an officer in an emergency situation or to report suspicious activities, find your supervisor or another race volunteer with a radio and he/she will relay the situa-tion, specifying the location.

Again this year, we have set up an “all call” capacity on the management radios, so that an announcement of importance can be communicated to all managers and supervisors at the same time. Managers will then inform everyone on your team of the status of any strategic event.

Inclement Weather: If advance notice is received that inclement weather is moving into the area, it will be communicated to all. Take precautions for your safety and that of your co-workers and our guests.

Thunderstorm and Lightening Safety: Find a low spot away from trees, fences, poles and grandstands. If you feel your skin tingle or your hair stand on end, squat low, making yourself the smallest target possible and minimize your contact with the ground.

Page 6

Tornado Safety:

Seek shelter and stay away from windows and grandstands. Get out of automobiles and lie flat in a nearby ditch or depression. Avoid flying debris.

INFORMATION BOOTHS/LOST AND FOUND (PNC Bank): General event and race series information, circuit maps, and directions are available at any of the PNC Bank Information Booths. Radio communication is available from each booth. Any lost items and/or people (including children) should be escorted to any of the five booths lo-cated throughout the venue. #10 - General Admission Grandstand located between Turns 9 and 10

NOTE: Wheelchair-accessible seating is available in Grandstands #1,#2 and #10. HOSPITALITY CHALETS:

Many generous corporations and organizations purchase Hospitality Chalets for their guests to enjoy race weekend in style and luxury. Chalet sponsorship plays a large part in generat-ing the funds needed to stage the Grand Prix in Detroit. To access any chalet, a properly is-sued Chalet Pass (color coded for each day) is required, indicating the name and number of the Chalet area.

There are several Hospitality areas, each housing multiple suites and private club areas:

DTE Front Stretch Chalets: These double-decker chalets are located adjacent to Pit Lane.

Citizens Trackside Chalets: Inside the circuit, adjacent to the DTE Front Stretch Chalets, along Pit Lane for 2022.

Huntington Bank Performance Pit: A private area located at the “Pit Out” end of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Pit Lane.

Belle Isle Club: Enhanced guest experience with catered food and private grandstand, on west side patio of the Casino Building

Fountain Club: Chalet-type experience for groups of 20 or less, located in the new Fountain Fan Area near Turn 9

HOSPITALITY SHUTTLE SERVICES (GOLF CARTS): The Hospitality Shuttle Services department exists to transport media, VIP guests and guests with physical disabilities within the race circuit. Shuttle locations are as follows: • Along the circular drive in front of the Detroit Boat House • Corner of Muse Drive, west of Chevrolet Bridge • Casino Way across from Med Central, in front of the Casino Building This service is NOT for volunteers. Each DGPA area has access to at least one golf cart for the Area Manager to designate its use. If a volunteer has a physical disability, please make arrangements with your Area Manager prior to the weekend. Assorted vendors, hospitality suites, and racing teams also have golf carts. Whenever a golf cart is used, you must proceed with caution. Golf carts do not have the right-of-way, so be courteous at all times. Never take a golf cart over the Huntington Bank Paddock Bridge or Midway Canal Bridge. PARKING AND SHUTTLE BUS SYSTEM: (FOR THE PUBLIC) The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear offers complimentary round-trip shuttle bus service that runs continuously from the Renaissance Center complex. Passengers will be dropped off and picked up at the Transportation Center on Belle Isle, near the Grand Prix en-trance.

No public parking is available on Belle Isle. The Parking area off Jefferson by the MacArthur Bridge entrance is reserved for race team members and officials. Park-ing at the Belle Isle Boathouse on Belle Isle is reserved for Car Corral guests, while the other parking areas accommodate our hospitality chalet clients, members of the media, race series officials and other guests.
