Inaugural Faculty Fellow. Conduct Process Evaluation with faculty and staff participants

in D&I work across campus. Use thematic analysis to analyze interviews and deepen

understanding of the process of changing institutional structures, policies and procedures

to create a more racially equitable and inclusion organization.

Developed materials for and assisted Faculty with transition to remote teaching during

the Pandemic. Developed and sent weekly email to BUSSW faculty, held open zoom

meeting to provide assistance. Participated in the Faculty Coach Advisory Group.

2006 – 2017 Associate Director, Center for Addictions Research and Services (CARS)

Recruit, hire, train, mentor and supervise all graduate research assistants (GRAs) (both

MSW and Ph.D.) who are working 10-20 hours per week. Mentoring goal: Assist the

GRAs to develop project and data management skills; build collaborative skills working

with CARS and multiple personnel in community agencies; learn professional/academic

writing for grant proposals and academic reports and publications; build data analysis

skills for articles and conference presentations; professional and life skills such as time

management, clarifying career goals and interviewing for employment.

Assist in the development of IRB applications for tenured, tenure-track and clinical

appointment faculty from beginning stages through submission and Continuing Reviews.

Advise, mentor, and assist faculty and doctoral candidates as they develop their own IRB

applications. Maintain a working relationship with the University IRB personnel enabling

quick turnaround and continuing consultation as needed.

2015 – 2017 Coordinator, HB735, Racial Justice and Cultural Oppression: Oversee content of

courses; recruit, hire and orient new faculty instructors, review course evaluations and

provide feedback to instructors, respond to student concerns.

External Mentoring Activities

2013- 2014 Umea University, Umea, Sweden (2013) and BUSSW CARS (2013-2014): mentored two Swedish doctoral students. Responsible for teaching basic research skills including

hypothesis development, theory development, data management, bivariate and beginning

level multivariate analyses, and guiding the development of drafts of methods and results

sections for academic papers, resulting in several co-authored publications by the

doctoral students.

2019 to present 1UM1DA049412-01 Samet (PI) 04/17/2019- 012/31/2023

National Institute for Drug Abuse Massachusetts HEALing Communities Study –

Reducing overdose deaths by 40% (2019-2023). The MassHEAL study will implement

and evaluate an intervention targeting overdose fatalities in 16 highly affected

Massachusetts communities via a cluster-randomized parallel group design. We will

work with community stakeholders using a data-driven approach to narrow gaps in

services by implementing a suite of tailored programs to reduce OD deaths. The primary

study outcome is number of overdose fatalities in the last year of a 3-year intervention

period.

2019 Suicide and Opioid Overdose Prevention: Needs Assessment for Frontline Staff. Funded
