In the coming weeks we are going to be spending some time looking at the armourthat God gives us to put on every day in order to help is live our lives as trueChristians. This week we are going to look at the whole armour of God, and then inthe next three weeks we will look at the different pieces of armour in relation tosome of the other stories in the Bible. The Armour of God that we are told about in Paul's letter to the Ephesiansis made up of 6 items - The Belt of Truth, The Breastplate of Righteousness, TheShoes of the Gospel of Peace, The Shield of Faith, The Helmet of Salvation and theSword of the Spirit which is the word of God (The Bible). When Paul wrote this letter there would have been Roman Soldierswearing items of armour such as these to be seen in everyday life. So this was asimple way for Paul to explain how we are surrounded by valuable characteristicsthat help keep us safe, just as the armour surrounds the soldiers to help keepthem safe. God gives us these characteristics in order to help us live our lives astrue Christians. The purpose of the characteristics is to help us stand against all the badthings that might come our way. So as we start to enjoy our summer holidays let usremember how God wants us to act, with truth, righteousness, peace, faith andspirit in the salvation that he has given us through the death of Jesus.
