Dr. Patangrao Kadam, Founder Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune & Chancellor Bharati

Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune who established Bharati Vidyapeeth in May

1964. It is his foresight and dynamic leadership which is responsible for the

tremendous progress achieved by Bharati Vidyapeeth is various spheres including

educational, socio economic and cultural. Today Bharati Vidyapeeth is one of the

leading educational institutions in the country and has created a history by

establishing 154 educational institutions within a short span of 41 years,

imparting education from the primary to the post graduate level.

Poona College of Pharmacy, a constituent unit of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed

University is Pioneer Pharmacy College in Pune region. The college conducts B.

Pharm., M. Pharm., Ph. D., Pharm. D. and Pharm. D. (Post baccalaureate)

programs under visionary guidance of Hon. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shivaji Rao

Kadam and Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Principal Dr. K. R.

Mahadik. It is recognized as a center of excellence in Pharmacy Profession.

The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and National Accreditation and

Assessment Council (NAAC) have accorded ‘A’ grade for its academic and research

contributions. Poona College of Pharmacy students have also shown their

excellence in various sports activities organized at institute and university level.

ACTIVITY REPORT

1. Name of Activity: Sphurti (Virtual Sports Competition)

Date / Period: 13th Oct to 19th Oct 2020

No. of Participants: 80+

Class: B. Pharmacy, PharmD, M. Pharm

SUMMARY:

Sphurti was the one-of-its-kind virtual sports summit which was brainchild of the Sports Committee of Poona

College of pharmacy to cater the enthusiasm of the fellow PCPians and was duly supervised by Dr. Nilesh

Deshmukh, who with due enthusiasm agreed to the same, and extending support in all possible ways, big and

small. The virtual sports tournament was organized with the intent to look after the health and fitness of the

current PCPians and to-be Pharmacists, as they have to care about their mental and physical well-being amid

this pandemic. This tournament included numerous sports including Fitness, Chess, Running, Yoga and Cycling,

spanning over a week commencing 13th Oct to 19th Oct 2020, to provide a 360-degree round health of the

students. There was no entry fee to ensure maximum participation in the best interest of everyone.

Fitness: The fitness competition included the boys and girls on consecutive days,13th and 14th October,

between 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, on a zoom call, where all the students were asked to wait in the lobby with just

one participant at a time, where they were assigned different exercises, and were ranked on the basis of the

number and correctness of the exercise. All the exercises were done keeping in mind the current protection

norms.

Chess: The chess tournament was conducted as a prologue for the full-fledged chess tournament the following

week, it was hosted in the interest of all the chess enthusiasts by purchasing a premium account on

chess.com, which is the premier software for hosting online chess tournaments. The tournament commenced

at 6:00 PM sharp on 15th October, including 3 rounds, each of 15 min, which helped scrutinize the participants

for the winner pageant. Post the consecutive rounds the winners were straightaway announced by the

computer.

Running: The running was included in this keeping in mind the athletes of PCP, and all the norms for the

safety of the students were followed before they commenced with the running. The competition included

patches of 100m, 200m and 400m, which were held on consecutive days of 16th and 17th October, in slots,

wherein the students had to download and use the Strava app, which would help calculate the distance and

pace of the contenders, and they had to share a screenshot of the same before commencing and post-

completion of the race, which had to be furnished within the stipulated timings.

Yoga: Mindfulness and mental well-being is also of paramount importance, especially in such trying times. The

yoga competition was initiated with the same intent, over a zoom call on the 18th October at 8:00 AM sharp,

as a salutation to the Sun God. All the Government norms were practiced before commencing the same, with

utmost precautions following the COVID-19 protocols. All the participants were asked to perform the yoga

exercise and complete within the stipulated time which would help yield the results and the winner tag.

Cycling: The cycling involved leveraging the Strava app which would be furnished as a proof within the

stipulated time of 30 mins in either the morning or evening slots which had to be allotted beforehand. The

cycling was conducted with utmost precautions following the COVID-19 protocols. The furnished proof would

help calculate the time elapsed and the pace of the participants, which would help determine ordaining the

winner tag.

The entire events were completed with utmost precautions, and also received a humongous response from

both the faculty members and the students alike. This has certainly propelled both the students to participate

in the much-awaited sports competitions which otherwise, would have been missed amid the pandemic.

2. Name of Activity: Virtual Chess Tournament.

Date / Period: 25th October 2020, Commencing 6:00 PM.

Class: Open for all colleges

SUMMARY:

The Virtual chess tournament was a sequel of the chess tournament held as a part of the Sphurti

competitions. This one-of-its-kind virtual tournament was organized by the Sports Secretaries of Poona

College of Pharmacy, under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Nilesh Deshmukh, who helped pave the

way for organizing such an inter-collegiate competition, where students from across India participated to

kindle their love for chess. The competition commenced on 6:00PM sharp on the 25th of October 2020,

and was held on chess.com, which included 5 rounds of 12 minutes each, which would scrutinize the

contenders for the winner tag. The registrations were announced a week ago where the contenders

registered and created their ID on the platform and eagerly waited for the lock to tick 6:00PM. Post the

tournament, the computer software would announce the winners and the ranking system, which helped

declare the winners, which was later announced on the club. It was indeed a really great competition as

there was intense competition from contenders across the country to secure their pageants in the

competition.

that was organized by BVDU Dental college and Hospital, Dhankawadi campus, on the 30th

and 31st of August, 2018. Both Men’s and women’s team had participated in the event.

State Level Cricket Tournament 2017-18

“Cricket for Interaction”

30th January to 2rd February 2018

‘Pharmacy Cup- A state level Cricket Tournament’ is the unique sports activity organized by our

college has gained a lot of popularity in the Pharmacy profession. The Pharmacy Cup started in

1986 as a small event has now become a land mark event in the pharmacy profession and

playing a pivotal role in strengthening the relations amongst the pharmacist. The idea behind

starting such tournament with motto “CRICKET FOR INTERACTION” is that the students of

pharmacy field will interact with the persons from Pharma industries which will help them in

their future Pharma career. This tournament has been successfully organized since last 31 years

and this year is the 32nd year & 1st Women’s Pharmacy Cup.

This year 06 cricket teams from different Pharma institutes participated in the Pharmacy cup.

Dr. Vaibhav M. Shinde (Pharmacy Cup In charge) & Dr. Sunita Pawar (Women’s Pharmacy Cup

In Charge) and the student coordinators were Poojitha Guruprasad (Secretary Women’s

Pharmacy Cup), Shaurya Shakya, Nilesh Mulik (Secretory Pharmacy Cup), Gaurav Mandake

organized the tournament under the guidance of Dr. K. R. Mahadik.

The teams from academia includes Sinhgad college of Pharmacy (Vadgaon), Govt College of

Pharmacy (Karad), Poona College of Pharmacy (PCP), Fresenius Kabi, Abhinav college of

Pharmacy, Satara College of Pharmacy Satara. Fresenius Kabi from industry team also played

pharmacy cup.

The Pharmacy Cup tournament was inaugurated on 30th Jan. 2018 at the auspicious

hands of our proud alumina Dr. Dilip Nandan Var, Hon. For the Program Dr. K. R. Mahadik,

Principal along with Dr. A. P. Pawar and Dr. Mrs. V. B. Pokhara Vice principals of Poona College

of Pharmacy were present. All the teaching and non-teaching staff along with the students of

Poona college of Pharmacy and players of different cricket teams were present for the function.

The final match Men’s was played between Satara College of Pharmacy, Satara and Fresenius

Kabi, the final match Women’s was played between Indira College of pharmacy, Pune &

Bhalchandra Institute of pharmacy, Pune on 02nd Feb 2018 at NCL Ground, Pune. The

prestigious Pharmacy Cup (Men) was won by Satara College of Pharmacy, Satara & Women’s

Cup was won by Indira College of pharmacy. The Prize distribution ceremony was held at NCL

Ground. The prizes were distributed by the auspious hands of Chief guest Mrs Late Soumya

Padhay. Comparing and coordination of valedictory and prize distribution function is done by

Prof. Sandeep S. Pathare. All the teaching and non-teaching staff members were present for the

valedictory function.

tournament that was organized by New Law College, Pune on the 29th of August, 2017.

Men’s team had participated in the event. In the men’s tournament total 11 colleges had

participated and in the event.

The first match of table tennis was played against Homeopathy College and was won by the

Poona College of pharmacy. The second match was played against the New Law college and

was lost with a score of 3-2.

Poona College of Pharmacy was knocked out in the 2nd round.

organized by the College of Physical Education, had seen an active participation of

the students of Poona college of pharmacy. Both Men’s and women’s team had

participated in the event. In total of 8 colleges had participated in both men’s and

women’s tournament. The Poona College of pharmacy played very well and reached

semi-final of the tournament. But hard luck that we lost the semi-final match by 22-

20 score.

Pharmacy (Osmanabad), Poona College of Pharmacy(PCP), Bharati Vidyapeeth Institute of

Pharmacy (IOP), Sinhgad college of Pharmacy (Lona Wala), Sinhgad college of Pharmacy

(Narhe), Modern College of Pharmacy Pune.

The Pharmacy Cup tournament was inaugurated on 30th Jan. 2017 at the auspicious hands of

our proud alumina Mr. Vishwajeet Jathar, Manager, Centre for excellence, Tieto Software; Hon.

For the Program Dr. K. R. Mahadik, Principal along with Dr. A. P. Pawar and Dr. Mrs. V. B.

Pokharkar Vice principals of Poona College of Pharmacy were present. All the teaching and non-

teaching staff along with the students of Poona college of Pharmacy and players of different

cricket teams were present for the function.

The final match was played between Smt. Kashibai Navale College of Pharmacy, Kondhwa and

College of Pharmacy, Osmanabad on 03rd Feb 2017 at NCL Ground, Pune. The prestigious

Pharmacy Cup was won by Smt. Kashibai Navale College of Pharmacy, Kondhawa, Pune. The

Prize distribution ceremony was held at NCL Ground and all the trophies were given by the

auspicious hands of Dr. A. P. Pawar, Vice-principal Poona College of Pharmacy. Comparing and

coordination of valedictory and prize distribution function is done by Prof. Sandeep S. Pathare.

All the teaching and non-teaching staff members were present for the valedictory function.

tournament organized by Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University at the college of Ayurveda on

the 7th and 8th September 2016.15 colleges had participated in the tournament with 80

students participating.

Ms. Nehal Doshi a student of Poona College of Pharmacy stood 3rd in the tournament (Girls

section) while Mr. Vinay Patil and Anuj Thakkar secured 8th and 10th rank in the tournament

respectively.
