What is Coaching?Teaching Things’ professional development & learning coaching sessions identify and establish clear goals for teachers across grade levels and/or subject areas. Teaching Things’ Professional Development Specialists will deliver professional development/learning (up to 3 participants per session, in 2-hour blocks) based on a plan that focuses on common instructional strategies and best practices. These grade level and/or subject area planning meetings do not require a lot of time outside of the classroom.

What is Mentoring? Teaching Things’ professional development & learning mentoring sessions provide continual feedback and support in the classroom to ensure that teachers utilize the skills and knowledge they have learned. Professional Development Specialists will conduct 1:1 meetings (maximum 6 participants per 6-hour day) where individual strengths and weaknesses are evaluated in order to provide effective instructional strategies for each teacher.

Administrator Track: Identifying Effective Technology Use In this first course of our sessions dedicated to administrators, we will focus in on how to identify whether the technology you have invested in is being used to its utmost potential. Whether you are working with interactive whiteboards, iPads, Chromebooks, or tablets, this course will help administrators and their teachers make the most out of the available resources.

Evaluating Effective Classroom Technology UsageIt is easy to walk into a classroom and see that a teacher has something displayed on an interactive whiteboard, but how do you really assess what type of learning is taking place? During this session, we will examine the utilization of Interactive Whiteboards, Laptops/Chromebooks, and iPads/Tablets into classroom instruction. Participants will leave this session able to apply two model frameworks for the integration of technology into classroom curriculum and content: SAMR and T-PACK. We will look at effective tools for evaluation: lesson planning templates and rubrics. If you are concerned that your school technology investments may be underutilized, or you want to highlight your great technology pioneers, this session is for you.

Google Meet Live to Stream School EventsThroughout the year, there are dozens of events that are worth sharing live with the school community. Google Meet Live is a tool available within Google Workspace that allows for one-way streaming of video, audio, and live events to audience members that are unable to attend in person. With this tool, audience members are unable to un-mute or share their screen during your live event. Join us as we discuss how to use Google Meet Live to stream school events so that everyone in your school community can participate in your school’s biggest moments.

SAMR and TPACKTeachers have been delivering fantastic lessons for generations, using a wide array of technology, or even none at all. Once technology is made available, how does it get used? This session will explore two paradigms to analyze technology integration within the classroom – the Technological/Pedagogical/Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, and the SAMR Substitution/Augmentation/Modification/Redefinition (SAMR) framework. Participants will leave with a keener eye towards examining technology usage and some ways to enable teachers to better their own practices.

In this session we’ll look at the basics of Apple’s Keynote software, and then move on to the more advanced features of the platform. Creating Podcasts with GarageBandIn this course we’ll cover the basics of using GarageBand to help you and your students create podcasts. Encourage students to get creative and think outside the box with this built in music creation studio. Record, edit, and share sounds from GarageBand to create exciting, educational podcasts.

Google Classroom on the iPadMost teachers who use Google Classroom are probably familiar with its desktop website. However, what if you, or your students, need to access Google Classroom on an iPad? Join us as we look at Google Classroom on the iPad, and review where you can find all of those important features including, where to create and submit assignments, add attachments, and see student progress.

Google Drive on an iPadWith Google Drive you no longer need to have a computer to access and share your documents and files. Join us as we dive into Google Drive on the iPad and discover how to save files, create folders, share documents, and more all from your iPad!

Project Based Learning with the iPadExplore how teachers and students benefit from using iPads in the classroom. Work with apps and see how they facilitate research on a topic, in order to create a product and share this creation with others. This course supports multiple Common Core Standards, including Writing W.3 and W.6

Using your iPad to Support English Language LearnersExplore how teachers and students benefit from using iPads in the ELL classroom. Intro to ScratchAre you trying to introduce coding into your school or classroom? Not sure where to start? Scratch is a great program to get the ball rolling and create some interest! Scratch is a block based coding application that can be used to create interactive stories, think creatively, and work collaboratively. SparkFun Digital Sandbox BasicsLooking for ways to motivate your hands-on learners in Computer Science? The Digital Sandbox is a nifty device that engages both the hardware and software worlds. Powered by a microcontroller, Sparkfun’s Digital Sandbox interacts with physical inputs, light, and temperature sensors. In this session, we’ll cover the basics of cybersecurity and strategies for teaching our students to stay protected while working on digital platforms. Introduction to Digital AccessibilityAs the world becomes increasing digital, educators are using and creating more digital content. Translated Video CaptioningVideo captioning is an essential component of digitally accessible videos. However, when captions are only offered in one language, this limits access for thousands of users.
