Head Coach

The 2016-2017 baseball season will be Coach Greg Guzman’s 3rd Season as the field general for the Jayhawks! He owns a 30-31 overall record with the program, and is looking to build upon the team’s 5th. place finish at the 2015 N.J.C.A.A. Regionals.Greg was born and raised in Muskegon where he graduated from Muskegon Oakridge in 1990. He then attended Jordan College (90-91) in Grand Rapids before returning to Muskegon Community College. (92-93)Coach Guzman has 20 plus years of coaching experience with 14 years being at the collegiate level. He has 8 regional N.J.C.A.A., appearances finishing as high as runner up in 2011.

“We’ve had some very successful teams go through this program in my time here, we will look to continue to build the program until we reach the pinnacle of a regional championship. I believe we have the pieces in place this season to compete at a very high level, and compete near the top of the conference and qualify for the post season”.Greg is employed by Shoreline Sports Academy as the general manager of operations, and is also a member of the A.B.C.A. & M.H.S.B.C.A.

Coach Guzman would like to thank the Muskegon community where he resides with his 4 year old daughter Avyella Vey, for their continued support through his tenure.

Coach’s Season Outlook - “We are looking to build off last season (24-26), and with this year’s incoming freshmen the sky is the limit. We are stronger in all facets of the program, which should lead to more success provided we can stay injury free. Look for us to contend on making the postseason regional!”

Assistant Coaches

Coach Beach An All State Infielder in High School coach Beach played collegiate ball at St. Clair Community College and Grand Valley State University. Primarily a power hitting catcher, Beach became versatile in the field earning All-GLIAC conference honors as an Outfielder. Beach continued his playing career beyond college playing semi-pro ball around the United State while also playing in Canada for the United States Select Team. Beach has coached at various at High Schools, and at the collegiate level with Grand Valley State University and Davenport University. As a travel Baseball coach, Beach has racked up over 500 career victories including a Perfect Game National Championship in Florida. Beach is a scout for Perfect Game USA, State Director and also works for Prep Baseball Report. Coach Beach and his wife Lisa have been married 21 years and reside in Ada, MI with their two boys Tyus (17) and Dawsen (14).

Coach Fillmore As a current assistant coach for Muskegon Community College’s baseball program, Jim Fillmore fuses his knowledge as a former collegiate athlete with his experience as a successful coach in order to instruct and improve the players on his team. He has also coached baseball at both White Cloud High School and Grant High School, and he was, at one time, a player for Lake Michigan College.

Coach Moyer A 2008 graduate of Reeths-Puffer high school Moyer has played baseball for both Muskegon Community College (2009-2010) and Upper Iowa University (2011) Garret Moyer uses the knowledge and skills he has developed as a player to impact his effectiveness as a coach. He has previously coached for the West Michigan Riptide travel organization (2013-2016) and was the pitching\assistant varsity coach for Reeths-Puffer high school (2015-2016) He is currently a hitting/pitching/fielding instructor at Shoreline Sports Academy and coaches a team for the Shoreline Stix travel organization. In 2014 Coach Moyer led his travel team to Sarasota, Florida where his team placed 3rd in a national tournament.

Baseball Team#1 Ben Sweedyk Ben is the son of Roger and Rosemary Sweedyk. He graduated from Grand Rapids West Catholic High School in 2015 where he played Football, and Baseball. He earned All-conference, and All-District honors in Baseball, and the team won Districts his junior, and senior years. The Football team won back- to-back State Championships his Junior and Senior years as well. After MCC he plans to attend Aquinas College to continue his baseball career, and pursue a degree in Computer Science and Networking. He is one of 4 captains this year and would like to thank his fellow teammates for this role. Ben would also like to thank his parents and past coaches for encouraging his passion for Baseball.

#4 David Brown David is the son of Fred and Barb Brown. He graduated from Holland Calvary Christian High School in 2015. David plans to major in business at a 4 year university. Some of his other hobbies are skydiving, hunting, and hanging out at the beach.

#2 Zach Vitkuske Zach is the son of Julia Vitkuske, from Brighton, MI. He is a RHP, who has a sister Brittanie, and 2 brothers, John and Alex. Zach was a 3 year starter at Brighton High School for baseball, and hockey. In hockey, he was All-State and drafted by the Fargo Force in the USHL. He chose to pursue baseball over hockey his senior year of high school, and hopes to play Division 1 baseball, and major in Business management.

#7 John Sanocki John is the son of John and Michele Sanocki. He graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central, where he was awarded All-Conference his senior year. John was part of the 2015 Division 4 Baseball State Championship team. Also, John was a part of the Muskegon Catholic football team and won a state championship. After MCC he plans to pursue a degree in Elementary Education, and play at a 4-year University. John would like to thank all the coaches who made him the player he is, and his Family for all the support they gave for him to get to this level.

#6 Nate Bonter 5’11” 180 lbs 18 year-old Freshman. Son of Michelle Bonter and brother to Kaitlyn (25) and David Bonter (23). Studied at Grand Haven High School where he received four varsity letters in baseball as well as being a 2x All-District player, 2x All-Area First team player, 1x All-Area Dream Team player, and 1x All-Conference First team player. He was coached by Grand Haven Head Coach Mike Hansen. When not playing baseball, he enjoys competing in basketball with his friends and anything else that involves competition. He wishes to pursue a career in Nutrition. He has no ideal college in mind after MCC, rather, he plans to go wherever he can to keep striving for his dream in baseball.

#5 Colin Mclelland Colin is the son of Mike and Cathy McClelland. He grad-uated from Brighton High School where he played Baseball and Basketball. He earned 3 All-Conference, 3 All-County, and 2 All-District honors in Baseball. Colin will be attending Northwood University next year to continue his base-ball career and to study business.

#9 Ryan Fields Ryan Fields is the son of Mike and Michelle Fields. He graduated from Grand Rapids Catholic Central in 2015 where he played 3 years of varsity baseball and was All-Area, All-District and All-Conference. He also played 2 years of Varsity Football. Next year he plans on transferring to a 4 year to continue his baseball career and to get a degree in business. Ryan would like to thank his family, and everyone who supported him throughout his career.

#10 Dylan Limbacher Dylan Is the son of Randy and Melissa Limbacher. He is from Kentwood, MI. He has one brother (Nathan), and a sister(Katelyn). He is a freshmen and one of the few two way players on the team, being a Pitcher ans Outfielder. Dylan plans to go into a field revolving around business and attend a D1 university to play baseball. If not Grand Valley State would be my next option. He would like to thank his parents for all their support through the years.

#8 Ryan Beadle Ryan is the son of Steve and Jodie, he also has a sister Jessica. He graduated from Portage Northern High School where he was a three-time letter winner in both Baseball and Football. He was two time all conference in football. In baseball, he was a state runner up his junior year, during his senior year he was named Second Team All-State. After his time at MCC he hopes to transfer to a four year school to continue playing baseball and study Sports Management.

#13 Carson Hopman Carson is the son of Robert and Kathy Hopman, and has 4 brothers: Bobby, Trevor, Zach, and Hunter. He graduated from Brighton High School where he played 3 years of Varsity Baseball. Carson would like to thank his family, and everyone who supported him throughout his baseball career

#11 Greg Park Greg Park is the son of Tonya Holmes and Charlie park. He attended Pine River Area High School where he was a 3 sport athlete all four years of High School including Basketball, Baseball, and Football. He was Awarded 1st Team All-Conference, All-District, Academic All-District, All-Region, and 1st Team All-State his Senior year as a Pitcher. After his final semester here at MCC he plans to go on and play at a 4 year school and pursue a degree in business.

#12 Zac Miller Zac is the son of Kreg Miller and Jaime and Nancy Peterson.He graduated from Fruitport High School. Zac wants to be a X-ray tech or a MRI tech but is still unsure at the time where he will transfer to after next season. His hobbies besides baseball are hunting, fishing, basketball, and bowling.

Baseball Team#14 Blake Bizon Blake is the son of Dan and Debra Bizon. Blake was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he attended West Catholic High School. Blake played football, baseball, and church league basketball in high school and managed to win 3 football state championships, 3 baseball district titles, and was a Blythefield Basketball Association All-Star. Blake’s exceptional leadership skills helped him become a baseball team captain his senior year and he is looking forward to what this season brings for him. Go Jayhawks!

#15 Brett Veltema My name is Brett Veltema. Son of Greg and Amy Veltema. I have one younger brother named Brandon. I am from Jenison, Michigan where I attended Jenison High School. I am 6’1” and weigh 195 pounds. I am currently undecided in my career path.

#17 Jacob Sposaro Jacob is the son of Chris and Sara Sposaro. He graduated from Kenowa Hills High School in 2015, where he was a 4 year letterman in baseball, earning 3 All-conference, and 2 All-Area honors, and All Region his Senior year. He was also a two year letterman in Basketball. He has one younger brother named Gibson. He played third base for the Jayhawks his freshman year. After MCC he plans on transferring to a 4 year institution to play baseball, and earn a degree in either Finance or Education. He would like to thank his family for their support during his baseball career.

#20 Joe Huesing Joe is the son of Ted and Jean Huesing. He is a right handed pitcher from Coopersville High School. He earned 1st. Team All-Conference and Team M.V.P., his senior year. Outside of baseball, Joe enjoys camping, playing with his dog, and hanging out with his friends. His major is still undecided but plans to continue his baseball career at a 4 year university after his time at Muskegon Community College.

#18 Alex Vanderwal The son of Carolyn VanderWal. He attended Reeths-Puffer high school of Muskegon. Alex is focusing on following a career in Criminal Justice. He credits his career to his Travel team coaches Garrett Moyer and Dustin Johnson. Along with the guidance and support from his family.

#19 Jacob Szombati Jacob is the son of Joe and Kathy Szombati. He graduatedfrom Lansing Catholic High School in 2015. He is undecided on a school next year. He plans to get in a degree in Business Management.

#21 Mitchell Wilson Mitchell Wilson graduated from Newberry high school. He has a sister named Arielle, his parents are Brent and Paula Wilson. Mitchell plans on pursuing a career in the criminal justice.

#22 Jarod Wierengo Jarod Wierengo. Son of James and Lynne Wierengo. Brother to Justin and Jennah Wierengo. Attended Fruitport High School. Played Baseball, Basketball, and Football Football Awards, First team All-Conference, First Team All-Area senior year. Baseball Awards Junior year, First Team All-Conference, First- Team All-Area, First Team All-District. Baseball Awards senior year, First Team All Conference, First Team All-Area, First Team All- District, First Team All-Region, Second Team All-State. Hobbies- Hunting, Fishing

#23 Cade Cintorino Cade is the son of Annette and Gerard Cintorino, and has one brother, Dominic. He graduated from Kenowa Hills High School in 2016, where he played baseball and earned 2x All-Conference Honors, and played in the Division 1 State Semifinals his junior year. Upon completing school at MCC, he plans to continue playing baseball at a four year college, while his major is still undecided.

#32 Brendan Kelly Brendan attended Grandville High School and graduated in 2014. He played football, basketball, and baseball for the Bulldogs, and was a 3 year varsity player for the baseball team. OK Red All-Conference outfielder in 2014, and was selected to play in the Jon Boss All –Star game. Brendan is the son of Kevin and Kathleen Kelly, and brother to Matthew Kelly. Brendan plans to attend Purdue Northwest University, who contends in the GLIAC Conference, to continue his education in Broadcast Communications and continue his baseball career.

#27 Gage Andrews Gage is the son of Chris and Michelle Andrews. He went to Gaylord St. Mary’s high school in Gaylord, MI. Gage is a red shirt catcher this season and looks to major in business. He would like to thank his family for all their support through the years.

#26 Garrett Bomay Garret is the son of Jerry and Jill Bomay and has an older sister Rebecca, and an older brother Daniel. He graduated from Grant High School where he played baseball, basketball, and football. Garrett has also been doing Martial Arts since he was 4. He earned All-Conference honors 3 years in a row in football, and earned 2 All-Conference, and All-Area awards in baseball. After his time at Muskegon, Garrett plans to continue his education at a 4 year university.

#35 Jacob Boes Jacob is the son of Mark and Maria Boes. He is from Reeths-Puffer High School, and also ran cross-country while there. Outside of baseball, Jacob enjoys the outdoors and hanging out with his family. He is committed to the University of Northwestern Ohio to continue his baseball career and study travel and tourism.

#33 David Gnegy The son of Dave Gnegy and Connie Lahnala, Graduated from Spring Lake High School in 2015 and played in the West Michigan Riptide baseball organization. Earned All-Conference, All-District, and All-Area Honors as a pitcher at Spring Lake and played in the Muskegon Area All Star game as a senior. After MCC he plans to attend a 4-year University to pursue a Degree in either Psychology or Sports Management. David would like to thank his coaches, teammates, friends, and family for supporting him throughout his baseball career.

#37 Brock Schwartz Brock Schwartz, RHP from Grand Haven High School. Son of Caryn Schohl and Thomas Schwartz. Majoring in Web Design. Other interests include basketball, being outdoors, and staying active. I am hoping to continue my athletic and academic career at Western Michigan University, GVSU, or Eastern Michigan University.
