Identity Account Manager Password Study ProblemTest which dialog box puts people more at ease when signing into a site - regardless of when they would have created a Firefox Account.

ProcessWe recruited users who spent at least five hours or more on the Internet a day and had them think aloud as they went thru five different sign-in interactive prototypes.

SolutionWe found that using a fake password made people feel safer, but confused them because they couldn’t edit the password. We changed the dialog to say “Share my email with Amazon.com” instead of “Sign in to Amazon.com” and then added an additional “Enter your Firefox Password” screen that appears after a specified time-out period, so users still feel safe, but aren’t annoyed by constantly entering their Firefox password.
