Project Brief

The Kurzweil KSP8 multi-bus signal processor is an 8-channel effects system designed for the professional engineer, producer, or musician who requires high-performance effects, excellent sound quality, and unparalleled real-time control.

The challenge was to design a 2D face for this product which was clean, classic and easy for the user to navigate. The main constraint was budget; the challenge was to convince sound engineers the importance of materials and finishes in order to communicate to the user.

Concept Exploration

This concept moved away from the typical black and dark gray faces of sound equipment and explored the use of clean metal finishes such as brushed stainless with either a polished or powder coated bezel.

Each face exploration was also supported by an efficient method for manufacturing.

Concept Exploration

This concept gave an up-dated, modern look to the black face with powder coated black metal and the use of rounded shapes and edges combined with a dark purple/blue color and varying hues.

This exploded view described the number of components for the face and how the LCD would be covered.

The approach of this concept was to deliver the look of various metal finishes with plastic parts. The inspiration came from a few of the products below, but the style was stark and industrial .

Final Product
