artisans and designers coming from industrial, fashion and product design. In Italy there are many high quality and innovative creative design companies, dispersed throughout the country; when it comes to micro enterprises, artisans and designers with difficulty manage to enter the international market. In order to facilitate their integration, DESIGN WEEK network has started a network of relationships within the international design weeks, featuring events aimed at enhancing “Good Design” , performing exhibitions in design centers and other strategic meeting points, located in high-frequency and shopping areas.

Graduated from the design faculty of the Milan Polytechnic in 2008. After having spent a year at the Industrial design Department of NTNU in Trondheim, Norway, he has worked together with Stefano Giovannoni and Luca Fois. An enthusiasm for manufacturing technologies and materials, combined with a ludic approach to design, has almost naturally led him to design the first collection of wooden toys for Milaniwood, a cooperation that commenced in 2005 and that is still ongoing. Appreciative of issues associated with sustainability, he works as a freelance, also on manufacturing systems, specializing in branding, communication and exhibition design.

Chiara PizzinatoThe Chiara Pizzinato Atelier results from the personal history and life experiences of its owner, Chiara. From her mother, a seamstress, she has derived the fondness for fabrics, whereas from her passion and love for botany and the green world (degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Padua and Master Degree in Environmental Sciences at the Fondation Universitaire Luxembourgeoise in Belgium) she draws the inspiration for the garments and accessories she makes. These steps and her job at an environmental engineering company are the benchmarks on her path towards the opening of the Atelier, as well as her decision to attend a course on patchwork, which led her to the rediscovery of the world of fabrics, which she had always been surrounded by, and to the choice of going her own way, thus starting her own first activity in the early 2000s.

Bevilacqua Pizzinato’s ShowroomBevilacqua Pizzinato’s headquarters are in Venice, Santa Croce, 1320. Here you can both find clothes, accessories and bags, and see how the fabrics they are made of are produced. The showroom is located in the same palace as the Tessiture Bevilacqua, one of the oldest weaving factories in Venice. It is so that when visiting the Tessitura, you will see how weavers work on 18th-century handlooms, which the Tessitura still uses, following ancient methods. You will therefore understand why Bevilacqua Pizzinato’s creations are unique and precious.

Through a collaboration between MIT’s Self-Assembly Lab and Wood-Skin S.r.l. a revolutionary type of furniture has been designed. The Programmable Table brings into the game an entirely new category of furniture that actively transforms itself, from shipping to full-functionality.

This prototype, unveiled at the 2015 Fuori Salone del Mobile in Milan in collaboration with BIESSE, demonstrates the first highly-active and reconfigurable furniture that mediates between various conditions: shipping, storage and a variety of uses. Via a number of transformations through the use of the Wood-Skin® process, this table takes advantage of an embedded pre-stressed textile to turn into precise ways. Once in-place, the furniture may be reconfigured into other shapes or flattened again for storage and moving.

By minimizing the volume during shipping, the flat-packed Programmable product is extremely efficient and economical for distribution. Furthermore, this product eliminates the need for human or machine assembly of complex parts and can simply be removed from the package, allowing it to dynamically jump into shape. The Programmable Table is a new vision for the future of smart and self-transforming household products.
