It doesn’t take much to put a hole in the household budget. For Robert and Susan, it was the sudden loss of Robert’s job. Susan worked part-time but Robert’s income was critical. The couple searched for ways to extend their savings and Susan’s part-time work while Robert entered a work force retraining program. They contacted CCEFS.

After registering, Robert or Susan would visit CCEFS to get monthly support. Taking advantage of recently implemented choice service model at CCEFS, the couple was able to choose the packaged products, meats,

produce, and dairy that best matched with what they had at home. After a few months, Robert completed his training and began to search for a job. While it took longer than he had hoped, Robert soon found a position that provided him full-time work that was close to home. Robert and Susan got back on their feet and no longer visit CCEFS.

CCEFS was able to learn the details of this happy ending when Robert ran into one of our volunteers at the grocery store and shared his story. He thanked her for helping them during their critical time.

A Rewarding OpportunityCCEFS Made a Difference Report to the Community

We provide food, personal care items, and other resources to people in crisis.

Jessica Amel is one of our regular volunteers having discovered CCEFS two years ago. A Woodbury resident, with husband Ben, 8-year old Jameson and 7-year old Avery, Jessica shares her thoughts about volunteering at CCEFS. “Volunteering has provided my young family a deeper perspective of our city while allowing us to give back. Helping families that are struggling with

food insecurity in my own community has been an incredibly positive experience for our family,” says Jessica. “I really enjoy that there are a variety of volunteer roles that I can help with. I am an intake volunteer a majority

of the time, but I have also been able to help with communications and community outreach. I can help both at the food shelf as well as from home. Volunteering on site is a lot of fun, as everyone is very friendly and I have had the opportunity to meet a variety of wonderful people.”

“But probably the most rewarding aspect for me,” added Jessica, “is the opportunity to interact with our clients. Almost all of the volunteer opportunities provide that and it is wonderful to see the difference you are making in people’s lives.”

Our community gardeners planted, tended, harvested, and donated over 9,600 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables. More produce is the number one request from our customers. Thank you for hard work.

Volunteers provided nearly 10,000 hours of service time that allowed us to expand the families served by over 10% versus the prior year. This dedication supported 6,000 households. Thank you for your time.

Hunger remains a challenge for many of our neighbors. Families are confronted with hard choices when budgets are at their limits and unforeseen expenses hit. It is a story that is all too familiar to many in our community. Yet, with your continued support we can bring hope to the table.
