Treatment

Format: Film Title: Konvicted Running Time: 2 minutes

Beginning

It begins with the main character walking out of the prison gates holding his personal belongings. As he walks out the gates he stops for a minute and reminisces on how he got arrested in the first place. There is flashback on how he was a young teenager dealing drug to needy customers where two police officers suspect them dealing drugs. Character 2 with character 1 is hesitant and on edge which gives away his innocence to the cops, which leads them running after the characters. They run through the alley to escape but there is a tall ragged fence in their way. Character 2 makes his way over the fence where character 1 slips and falls to the ground where the cops arrest him. As he is getting arrested he shouts to Character “Look after my family and my girlfriend Cynthia.”

Middle

After he leaves prison Character 1 returns to his home expecting to see his mother and sister, however to his horror he finds that his mother is a drug addict and his sister has gone missing. To try and find out what is going on he goes to visit his girlfriend at her house. However when he knocks on her door somebody that he has never seen before answers the door and reveals to character 1 that she is dead. With his life in ruins he goes back to the gang that he has not seen in 10 years to ask why they haven’t looked after his family while he has been in prison. After an extremely heated argument he finds out that his gang has neglected his family while he was in prison. In realising this character 1 goes back to the police and tells them that he is willing to work for them in taking down his former friends.

Resolution

The enraged character gives his old ‘friends’ a taste of their own medicine in favour of joining the police. He goes back on his word and joins the force without his foes knowing. The force devise a plan to track the other characters’ behaviour and eventually catch them and put them behind bars.

Ending

The ending begins with the main character going to his former friends to successfully carry out a smuggling case. They don’t know that he is working for the force. The police can listen to everything the drug dealers are saying because the main character has a wire on his top. As they conclude this meeting, the police have everything they need to arrest the thugs. It ends with the main character looking at the drug dealers getting arrested, just like they did when he got arrested.

Main character profile

Hugo

Personal Traits:Exposes his softer side after seeing the state his property and family have been left in. His current mental state encourages himself to turn a new leaf and join the police. Although he starts off as powerful and influential figure, his softer side makes him appear as just a normal person towards the end of the film.

Physical Traits: At the beginning of the film, he wears a suit and a stereotypical gangster hat. This connotates his power and that he is in control of the gang. Also, his tone of voice and constant facial expression proves he is in control of the situation, but ironically he isn’t as he goes to prison. However, he is in full control come end of the film.

Mike

Personal Traits:At the beginning of the film when we see the flashback Mike and Hugo appear to be very close and Mike (even though he deals drugs) looks as if he is very hesitant with the police officer around the corner.

Physical Traits:Wearing a suit just like his friends Hugo and wearing a top hat. He is a relatively short character with dark brown hair. Judging by his facial expression and body language, he is always hesitant and weary of his actions.

Certification

We are going to use a certificate 15 for our film; it can be classified as a 15 because as there is evidence of dangerous behaviour and violence, which would make in unsuitable to have a 12 certificate. The reason we are putting this as a 15 is because we are not showing any violence in the opening scene and we are not showing any drug specimen. When Hugo is dealing the drugs, the camera would not show he is doing drugs although the audience would be aware that he is selling drugs. It wasn’t an 18 because there isn’t any violence, drugs or sex in this scene; the closest thing to violence is when the police officers are chasing the two characters.

Audience

We are targeting out film at males. The gangster genre is more commonly associated with males. The setting and mise en scene we are going to use works with the stereotype that the audience associate with the gangster genre. The age will range between 15+, this is because that even people older than 50 or even 60 could relate to this film. The good thing about the gangster genre it doesn’t have age limit. All ages can watch this film and identify with it (from 15). We feel that the storyline created will appeal to our target audience.
