• THE LOWER GLASS IS CALLED AS VISION PANEL AND IT HAS LOW VISIBLE TRANSMITTANCE.

• THIS TYPE OF WINDOWS CONSERVE ENERGY AS THEY ALLOW LESS HEAT IN THE BUILDING AND ALLOW AMPLE OF DAY LIGHT.

GREEN POWER: A 400KW SOLAR PLANT INSTALLED IN THE POCHARAM CAMPUS GENERATES 7 LAKH UNITS PER ANNUM; THEREBY REDUCING RELIANCE ON THE GRID.EFFICIENT DAY LIGHTING: THE BUILDINGS HAVE BEEN DESIGNED WITH HIGHLY EFFICIENT DAY LIGHTING SYSTEMS, REMOVING THE NEED FOR ARTIFICIAL LIGHTING DURING THE DAY. THIS HAS BEEN DONE WITH THE HELP OF LIGHT SHELVES, NARROW FLOOR PLANES, AND REDUCED WINDOW-TO-WALL RATIO.BIODIVERSITY: MORE THAN 6,000 NATIVE TREES WERE PLANTED LAST YEAR TO IMPROVE THE BIODIVERSITY OF THE CAMPUS.

AFTER SIMULATION STUDIES WERE UNDERTAKEN, THE TEAM

IMPLEMENTED LIGHT SHELVES AT A HEIGHT OF 2.4M FROM THE

GROUND IN THE 2.9M HIGH ROOMS. THESE LIGHT SHELVES IN WOOD

PANELS TOPPED WITH WHITE REFLECTORS SHADE THE OCCUPANTS

FROM THE DIRECT LIGHT AS WELL AS DIFFUSE THE DAY-LIGHT ON

TO THE CEILING, MAKING THE CEILING EVENLY BRIGHT. THIS

LEADS TO AN INCREASE IN THE PENETRATION OF THE DAYLIGHT

INTO THE OFFICE, INCREASING THE PERCEPTION OF

BRIGHTNESS TOO. THESE APART, SUSPENDED LIGHT FIXTURES

WERE USED TO THROW LIGHT UP AND DOWN, AVOIDING THE

CAVE EFFECT IN THE ROOM AND TO ENSURE THAT THERE WAS

ENOUGH LIGHT ON CEILINGS, WALLS AND TABLES. DIMMERS

AND MOTION SENSORS HAVE BEEN ALSO USED.

LIGHT COLOURED SURFACES AND CEILINGS FURTHER

REFLECT LIGHT AND REDUCE THE CONTRAST IN

BRIGHTNESS WITHIN THE BUILDING. THROUGH ITS

VARIOUS FEATURES, THE LIGHTING DESIGN HAS BEEN

FOUND TO BE 35% MORE EFFICIENT THAN THE

GLOBALLY ACCEPTED ASHRAE STANDARDS. IN ITS

NARROW FLOOR PLATE OF 18M THE CORES WHICH

RECEIVE VERY LOW DAYLIGHT PENETRATION HAS

BEEN RESERVED FOR THE MEETING ROOMS WHICH

DON’T NEED DAYLIGHT.

THE EXPERTS AGREE THAT FOR A FLOOR PLATE

BETWEEN 16M-18M THE WINDOW TO WALL RATIO

BETWEEN 25%-35% WORKS WELL WHILE FOR DEEPER

FLOOR PLATES IT COULD BE UP TO 40% DEPENDING

UPON THE DEPTH.

BUILDING ACHIEVEMENTS, THE BUILDING HAS BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED BY

RESEARCHERS IN GERMANY AND THE LAWRENCE BERKELEY NATIONAL LAB AS

ONE OF THE 'BEST PRACTICES GUIDE FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE INDIAN OFFICE

THE COMBINED USE OF PLT TG AND SKN 444 II - HIGH PERFORMANCE DOUBLE

GLAZED SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS HAS BEEN COUPLED UP WITH THE IDEAL

ORIENTATION OF THE BUILDING, LIMITING THE FACADES OPENING TO THE EAST

AND WEST (WHERE THE DIRECT MORNING AND EVENING SUN STRIKE). THE LONG

FACES OF THE BUILDING HAVE BEEN ORIENTED TOWARDS NORTH AND SOUTH

WITH SHADING DEVICES PROVIDED ADEPTLY, ESPECIALLY TOWARDS THE SOUTH.

THE NARROW FLOOR PLATE OF 16M MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR 84% OF THE

REGULARLY OCCUPIED SPACES TO HAVE ADEQUATE DAY-LIGHT. HENCE INSTEAD

OF DESIGNING THE MEETING ROOMS IN THE CORE (AS IN SDB5 MYSORE), THESE

WERE PLACED ON THE EAST AND WEST SIDES SO AS TO ALLOW BETTER DAYLIGHT

PENETRATION, BLOCKING OF MORNING AND EVENING GLARE AND VIEWS TO THE

ADVANTAGE OF THE EMPLOYEES.
