TIPSTER: *THE EMPLOYER’S “PASS A BACKGROUND CHECK” MEANS NO ARRESTS DURING THE PAST 5 YEARS. Betcha if I hadn’t told you that they only go back 5 years, then, you would have walked away from this offer. HOW MANY OTHER JOBS ARE YOU WALKING AWAY FROM BECAUSE YOU ASSUME YOU KNOW WHAT THE EMPLOYER MEANT TO SAY?

Here you would have been wrong…! “…reliable transportation to and from work…” remember that this does not mean you MUST have a car. If they did, the would say “Do you have a car?” This means can you get to work?…they don’t care if you can get home…that’s your problem for picking a job so far away from where you live….I mean, like, there was not any jobs closer? So DO NOT add to the employer’s question, DO NOT complicate it…KEEP IT SIMPLE! If you can get there the correct answer is “YES!” ==========================================================================

BEST HOMECARE AGENCIES TO WORK FOR IN 2014 ANNOUNCED, MYCNAJOBS CAREGIVER CHOICE AWARDS Unlike most workplace-related awards, which require companies to self nominate, the Caregiver Choice Awards rely solely on the input of caregivers across the nation who anonymously provide feedback through a survey. The survey is distributed to thousands of professional caregivers working in homecare via

myCNAjobs own caregiver marketplace. "Choosing where to go to work and stay on board is a big decision, especially important in homecare with turnover rates over fifty-percent," says Brandi Kurtyka, CEO of Chicago-based myCNAjobs. "Homecare agencies are struggling to retain their workers so we wanted to get under the hood to better understand where they want to work and why." In addition to the announcement of the winners of the Caregiver Choice Awards, myCNAjobs recently released the latest edition of the Caregiver Trend Report, focused on the important topic of caregiver retention. The report outlines key drivers in caregivers choosing an employer and the motivations for staying on board.

THE TOP 5 BEST OF HOMECARE COMPANIES ARE: 1.Visiting Angels 2.Senior Helpers 3.HomeCare Assistance 4.Comfort Keepers 5.Home Instead The ranking of the top companies was determined by taking cumulative average ratings from 1,509 caregivers who responded to the survey between December 12, 2013 and December 13, 2013. "The Caregiver Choice Awards help give job seekers insight into the companies that invest in keeping their caregivers satisfied year round. "Finding a job you love is tough work but with feedback from thousands of caregivers on the inside, it can make the job search process a little easier," adds Kurtyka. ===========================================================

BUT, I STAYED HOME AND TOOK CARE OF MY KIDS…I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE! Every day someone comes in says that they don’t have any skills; no marketable abilities and no experience because they stayed home and took care of their children.

This is the most incorrect statement of 2014 (or any year) because it is so very far away from being true. The truth is that they are over qualified for many of the jobs that they (usually because this is what they have years of experience doing these jobs) most want to do caregiving, cleaning or cooking. In the entry level(s) of these trades, they are seasoned professionals not in some made up or clever re-wording of housewife (husband) but in ONET ONLINE (Labor Department) professional job descriptions:

ONET ONLINE is a great resource to start with, as you try to assemble an application (resume) because it helps them realize the true extent of their skills and abilities. As ONET ONLINE (the Labor Department) classifies each of these as professional jobs, there are no gaps in their work history because they stayed home. When properly showcased and illustrated, these are NOT made up work histories and they are readily accepted by the vast majority of the America’s Fortune 500 companies. ========================================================================

HERE IS A SAMPLER… No matter how much we try to educate and encourage the empowerment of entry level or re-entry workers to accept that they are not 16-year-olds out for their first afterschool job. Let’s start with… Truthfully…

• How many of you have all (most) of these skills and abilities? • How many of you have done all (or most) of these things in your every day

jobs? • At some point in each of your jobs, did you EVER do any of these things?

Didn’t EVERY job you EVER have require that you do many of these things? • How many of you have these skills and abilities encoded into your “KILLER

RESUME?” • How many of you DO NOT have all of these things incorporated into your

resume and/or (especially) your application because (guess what?) they didn’t get to see your “KILLER RESUME” and the computer didn’t accept it instead of the application?

• How many of you cut-n-pasted your killer resume into the application because it is “sooo good?”

• STILL WONDER WHY YOU DIDN’T GET CALLED FOR AN INTERVIEW?

• WANT TO CHANGE THIS TREND? ============================================================================

TIPSTER: YOU WILL NEED TO USE ONET TO FILL OUT THESE APPLICATIONS CORRECTLY! http://www.onetonline.org/ ================================================= TIPSTER: This is a funny place where it helps (a lot) to have a friend already working there and to let them introduce or recommend you (as long as they are well liked…otherwise, it could be fatal). Short of that, close attention MUST be paid to filling out the application correctly. Their job description will not get you there. You will need to pull up the job title on ONET and use that to put together your application. Then, you MUST take the info from your application and put it in to your resume. Your resume must mirror your application. Next step is to find out who the manager/director is of the section where the job is. Mail or hand deliver this resume with a very nice cover letter which expresses your long desire to work at the hospital and how well you meet their requirements for the position, ask them to pull your application and ask to come see them. DO NOT CALL OR E-MAIL - They will resent the pressure and intruding nature of the phone call because they will feel put on the spot (no matter how smooth you are). The E-Mail will get caught in their spam as they do not know you and their system will strip the attachment out of your e-mail…making the e-mail pointless. MAKE SURE YOU GIVE THEM A DIRECT CONTACT NUMBER – where they can get you without delay or that you can immediately return their call (you have a thirty minute window before they go on to the next candidate). The higher your asking salary the more critical this becomes. Do not give them an excuse to call the next candidate. LOW BALL YOURSELF - We have 100s of stories of people not getting called until they put themselves into the entry level salary range (regardless of your skills, experience or abilities…they don’t care about this…they care about bottom line and that’s all). Finally, if you don’t or won’t do these things then go home, light a candle and say a prayer to have Old Lady Luck be your co-pilot of this application.
