Although Christian Vitone started making wine at age 14 with his maternal grandfather, a WW1 Italian soldier … he formally entered the wine Industry with national distributor Southern Wine and Spirits in 1998. But, It was working alongside renowned Director/Producer Francis Ford Coppola at his Niebaum-Coppola Estate Winery, and later at his Parisian style Café’ wine bar, that convinced Vitone to follow his passion. As a result, Vitone Family Wines was founded in 2010, and today calls upon the talents of top California winemaker Marco Cappelli to continue the family tradition.

A UC Davis graduate in Enology, Marco Cappelli is widely recognized as a gifted craftsman, with fieldwork in Sauternes and many years of mentorship under the legendary “dean” of California winemaking, Andre Tchelistcheff. Following nearly two decades of creating the wines of Napa Valley’s esteemed Swanson Vineyards, Marco followed his passion to the Sierra Foothills, where he continues to craft highly sought-after wines in the spirit and style of his old world training. Marco’s wines consistently score between 90-93 points with the Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast.

The Verde Sole brand wines represent a lovely marriage of Marco’s core winemaking values, and Vitone Family Wine’s mission: creating compelling, varietally distinct, and food-friendly wines of imagination and great value! They currently produce 4 wines from the Sierra Foothills of California; a Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Chardonnay, and Pinot Grigio.
