Unit 21 Evaluation

For unit 21, our task was to come up with a media project that would showcase our skills from the 2 years of BTEC. I have chosen to create a music video which showcases me playing the cello. I did this because I was inspired by The Piano Guys who create videos like mine.

When I set out to make this video I really wanted to produce something that would entertain and to show that instrumental music can be modern and interesting. I think that I succeeded in making an entertaining video and will show how I have achieved this.

Below is a mind map showing my initial ideas which include a Horror Film, Film Trailer, Comedy Documentary, and a Cello Music Video.

Part of the reason that I chose to do a cello music video is because I had the most ideas for it. At this point I already had loads of thoughts on what I was going to do and was confident that I would secceed in what I wanted to create.


After planning and thinking about what I was going to create for my project I made a proposal to show the main aspects of it as shown below.

Once I had finished with my proposal I started to get ready for filming. However, before I could film I had to email The Piano Guys asking for permission to use their piece. The email is shown below.

Before filming I had to learn the piece; this took me roughly a week leaving a sufficient amount of time to film.

On the day of filming I was very lucky that the weather was perfect for what I wanted and that the location was remote. This made the filming much easier and quicker to complete.

Step by Step process of my final piece.

Firstly I imported the music. I imported it first because it would be easier to link the clips with the music instead of linking the music to the clips.

I then had to get the footage that I had filmed onto premier pro so that I could edit it.

This is how I imported my clips.

I then dragged in the clips and music into the right order that I wanted them in.


As you can see I have also cut pieces of the film. I used the razor tool to do this.

In between the clips I used different effects to make the video smoother and easier to watch as shown below.

As soon as I had finished editing I put the video into after effects to make the colours deeper. I then uploaded it to youtube but when I watched it on youtube I decided that it looked better without the after effects so I took it off and re-posted it without the effects.


Strengths

Overall I think that my video is a very good achievement. One of the main strengths is the location. I think that it really suites the piece and gives the video a better feel. Another strength to my video is the way I linked the clips to the music. I think that it looks very smooth and I believe that it is to the best of my ability.

Weaknesses

One of the main weaknesses to this unit is my pre-production. I think that I should have done more of it so that I had a clearer idea of what I needed to do. If I was to do it again I would definitely to more pre-production.

Overall

Overall I think that I did the best that I could have done with my video. However I think that I could have done more pre-production and planned a bit more. I believe I did I very good job.
