Twitter• Twitter is an amazing form of distribution, it is

highly effective when spreading ideas, information and content.

• It is instantaneous, its reach can immensely far and wide

• In today’s day and age, musicians are finding it harder to get their music into the hands of that people that matter. - ultimately that means, but also the gatekeepers of the music industry, such as bloggers, DJs and journalists.

• Twitter allows you to capture audiences which previously would have been considered niche.

• Twitters changes the artist-fan relationship by removing the feeling of distance which existed in the traditional music media model- artists can use a ‘twitter strategy’ which may include replying to fans or creating hash tags so that they become more noticeable

Instagram• Fans appreciate pictures from their favourite

artists.

• Artists can take pictures of their concerts, which could convince fans to buy tickets to their next concert

• Fans also like to see the ‘behind closed doors’ aspect, so artists use photos of them filming music videos or in recording studios to entice them.

• Artists such as Ariana Grande used Instagram’s14 seconds video feature to preview her new album and music videos for her fans

• Similar to twitter, Instagram allows the use of hash tags, which helps members to find exactly what they are looking for.

• Fans also like to feel like they know their favourite artist. - artists can use this to represent themselves in a certain way to their fans and the general public.

SnapChat• Snapchat has gone from being a simple photo and

video sharing app to a marketing tool- it is now a way for artists to reach their target audience

• Snapchat is a good way for artists to enforce their ideology they want to represent to their fans through the use of videos and photos

• Snapchat’s core target audience is 13-25, 70% of which are female. - so it makes sense for artists with a younger fan base to utilize this.

• Like Instagram, snapchat can be used to premiere new music or music videos.

• Snapchat also have contests and scavenger hunts. - for a musician, the possibilities are endless. They could ask fans to pose with merchandise in unusual locations, singing parts of their favouritesong or acting a moment from a music video etc.

Tumblr• Tumblr does is allows musicians to be fully creative in the

way they express themselves and connect with their fans. They can take full ownership of how they want to communicate their message and they can also control and harness the traffic they create. You can fully customize the look of your blog. But you can use it as a hub for everything social you can do, as it publishes to twitter, facebook and many other social media apps.

• Not many people see the artwork in music anymore. It is a thumbnail that’s on your iPod. To be able to express art which corresponds with the artists music, will allow fans to have a deeper connection with the artist.

• Artists can also see fan posts or art work which they can then ‘re-blog’, which makes the fans create my artwork which increases popularity and interest in the artist. This worked for One Direction. They continue to validate their fans today.

• Beyonce used Tumblr to announce her Super Bowl performance with a picture of her eyes and a date. This allowed the news to reach fans first. This then creates a ripple effect, which prompts news sites to post about it
