Define: Shopping centers that have an open-air configuration of specialty stores, entertainment, and restaurants, with design ambience and amenities such as fountains and street furniture.

Example: Friendly Shopping Center in Greensboro, North Carolina

Benefits: Ease of parking, Convenience, Outdoor attractions, “Spend the day here” environment.

Define: Centers that combine several different uses into one complex including residential, office, hotel, recreation, or other functions.

Example: Mizner Park in Boca Raton, Florida

Benefits: They facilitate a live-work-play environment, The environment in the MXD brings extra business to the stores inside of it.

Define: Shopping centers that contain mostly manufacture’s and retailer outlet stores.

Benefits: Strong entertainment component, Offers sometimes damaged yet good valued merchandise.

Benefits: Generates more pedestrian foot traffic and causes longer shopping trips, they support cross-shopping, convenience shopping for customers.

Explain a business that would benefit moving to Rapid City using one of these locations.

A business that would benefit from moving to Rapid City using the Lifestyle Center format would be any high end retail center (Macy’s, Dillard's). Rapid City is gentrifying its downtown area and urban sprawl is becoming an integral part of the growth here. They would benefit because as Rapid City becomes more of a tourist destination and a hub of South Dakota, more shopping options are needed to satiate the tourists shopping needs and wants.
