Masterbatch are concentrated mixtures of pigments and additives, used for coloring and imparting specific

properties to polymers. They are prepared by encapsulating pigments in carrier resins, which are then cut into

granular shape or kept in liquid state (liquid masterbatch), and later processed with base polymer. Based on

their use and appearance, masterbatch are classified into four major types- black, white, color and additive,

which are used for diverse applications:

•Black colored plastic additives, most commonly used in automotive (tires), construction

(pipes and tubes), packaging industries (black colored disposable bags) and other

consumer goods industries (laptops, furniture, etc.).

•White colored plastic additives, most commonly used in packaging industry (milk

pouches), and consumer goods industry (furniture, toys, containers, etc.).White

•Plastic additives of various colors are used in the production of consumer goods

(buckets, brushers, etc.), electronics (TV washing machines, etc.), packaging (customer

specific attractive packaging), for construction work (pipes and floor covering), and in

automotive industry (car interiors such as steering wheel and dashboard).

Color

Additive•Additives are added to plastic to modify certain properties in development of specific

products such as flame retardants, UV resistant plastic, corrosion inhibitors, and

antimicrobial & antioxidant plastic products.

Plastic processing industry in Qatar is concentrated in two major industrial areas, that is, Doha IndustrialArea and Mesaieed Industrial Area, of which Doha Industrial Area accounted for the majority share in theQatar masterbatch market in 2015. Majority demand for masterbatch emanates from the processors usingblown film extrusion process, which is used for manufacturing plastic packaging products. In addition toblown film, masterbatch are also used in significant quantities in roto molding process, predominantly in theproduction of storage tanks and builders plastic products.
