WELCOME MESSAGE

It is my great pleasure, both as Managing Director of Atlanpole and International President of IASP, to welcome you to Nantes for this “Innovation European Juncture Event” gathering three high value innovation networks: CEBR, IASP- European Division and Retis.

While CEBR and Retis hold their respective annual General Assemblies, IASP European Division members will meet for a strategic workshop with the participation of EBN representatives, as a follow up of the Brussels January 26 event on Innovation Ecosystems.

Internationalization is an element of increasing importance for us all: clusters, science and technology parks, technology based Incubators, BICs, areas of innovation or technopoles. This is why day 1 of this event will alternate plenary sessions addressing global or European issues and challenges, and parallel interactive sessions bringing to light local or regional experiences in order to enable best practices exchanges and networking.

On day 2 each network will meet separately, which I am convinced should result in interesting and fruitful outputs for all participants from the three networks, bringing more value, innovation and competitiveness to our respective ecosystems.

In addition to this full and exciting programme, you will be able to enjoy the hospitality of Western France and the unique Nantes touch…

The whole Atlanpole team looks forward to welcoming you: Bienvenue à Nantes!

Jean-François Balducchi

Managing Director AtlanpoleInternational IASP President

ORGANIZERS

For 3 days, from May 11th to 13th, 2016, in Nantes,

Atlanpole has chosen to amalgamate 3 innovation networks events, under the general title:

“European Innovation Juncture event in Nantes”

Atlanpole will host the RETIS National Convention, the IASP European Division Workshop and the CEBR General Assembly.

ATLANPOLE

As the technopole for the “Nantes Atlantique” economic area, a lead facilitator and joint facilitator, and/or partner for several innovative clusters, ATLANPOLE plays a key rolewithin the main area of innovation in Western France.Atlanpole boasts a European Business Innovation Center and is accredited as a Business Incubator by the French Ministry of Research. It fosters the emergence, creation anddevelopment of innovative companies, thanks to a team of experienced professionals, to a network of appropriate skills and to the ability to attract external funding.

As a member of the French National Innovation Network (Retis), the European Business & Innovation Centre Network (EBN) and the International Association of Technopoles, Science Parks, Incubators and areas of Innovation (IASP),ATLANPOLE has been awarded ISO 9001 certification for each of its 3 core activities:

• Business support and skills networking• Project Engineering for innovative individual or collaborative projects• International Marketing

RETIS

• A national network of active members organized geographically

• Non-profit organization

• More than 100 members

o 32 incubators

o 28 business and innovation clusters (BICs)

o 43 science and technology parks (technopoles)

o 5 competitive clusters

For nearly 20 years, RETIS has been supporting and mobilizing its members as they develop and build innovative projects in France.

RETIS began by creating a unique network of French technopoles, BICs, and public incubators. Since 2008, it has extended its network to include school incubators and competitive clusters—geographic concentrations of interconnected companies. Today, the RETIS network is again open to new members and continues to be an active ecosystem for regional and national innovation.

The network is currently assisting over 800 ventures and has partnered with more than 10,000 innovative enterprises.

The activities of the RETIS network are centered on three objectives:

• Lobbying

• Developing new services and support for the network, including a Center of Resources, Training, and Consulting

• Creating activities and resources to promote and increase the visibility and value of the members of the network. RETIS establishes national and international projects dedicated to innovative enterprises and professionals, such as “Innovons Ensemble” and other qualified international training programs.

IASP

IASP is the worldwide network of science parks and areas of innovation. It connects the professionals managing science, technology and research parks (STPs) and other areas of innovation and provides services that drive growth and effectiveness for all members.

IASP members enhance the competitiveness of companies and entrepreneurs of their cities and regions, and contribute to global economic development through innovation, entrepreneurship, and the transfer of knowledge and technology. IASP is a NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, as well as being a founding member of the World Alliance for Innovation - WAINOVA.

IASP coordinates a very active network of professionals that manage areas of innovation and science/technology parks, enhances new business opportunities for companies and research organizations located in these areas, assists the development and growth of new parks and other areas of innovation, increases the international visibility of IASP members and sponsors.

CEBR

To build a competitive European biotechnology sector on the world stage through networking, collaboration, recommendations for policy and sharing best practice between regional biocommunities.

CEBR aims to:

• Reduce fragmentation of companies and regions in Europe

• Create a level playing field for company operation

• Transform competitiveness into cooperation between regions

• Create a platform for EU biotechnology initiatives, including EC-funded projects

CEBR was launched in 2006 through an FP6- funded project set up with the aim of networking biotechnology clusters across Europe. The project objective was to create a long term sustainable network through which biotechnology in Europe and its support infrastructure became more harmonized. The network was launched in June 2006 and, since then, has gathered strength and members, with over 100 Full and Associated Members joining at launch.

January 2008 saw the launch of a financially independent network, supported by low cost membership and participation in EC-funded projects. CEBR operated as a ringfenced activity of ERBI Ltd (now One Nucleus) in Cambridge and worked towards sufficient strength to create a stand alone legal entity.

In 2013, CEBR asbl was created in Belgium as a non-profit association and operates in Brussels, supported by a Board of Directors from across Europe.
