Biofuels in Poland
•In Poland are produced: ethanol, methyl esters and biogas.
•Ethanol sold as component of petrol (about 5%)•Ethanol sold as component of petrol (about 5%)
•Methyl esters (REM) sold as components of diesel at many filling
stations or pure on several filling stations.
•Biogas in Poland isn’t fuel for machines and we can't buy it at
filling stations. Biogas is used in production of electricity
•Raps Oil (PPO) isn’t produced as pure fuel but it is only substrate
for RME production.
Potential of biofuel production

Characteristic of IBMER’s farm
Institute for Building, Mechanization and Electrification of
Agriculture has got an experimental farm. The farm is situated in Poznań,
about 5 km from town centre, on the outskirts. about 5 km from town centre, on the outskirts.
It has 356,8 hectares area. 95% (338 ha) of it is the arable land, the rest
is for forests and buildings. An ecological production of milk and livestock
(100 cows) is kept on it.
On the fields are cultivated: wheat, rye, oats onto grain (60%), growing
corn, lucerne, clover onto silage (30%) and mustard, rape, onto
adventitious plants.
The farm has got mechanical service with highly-qualified workers. There The farm has got mechanical service with highly-qualified workers. There
are making different repairs. Tractors on the farm making about 1000
hours/year.
The Institute has 4 big tractors which have above 100 kW and 5
tractors has under 100 kW. One of them working on PPO and one working
on CNG. We have also filing station on PPO and CNG.

Cold start with a cold motor
It is not necessary to use the preheating equipment
if the motor is still warm from prior use.
• At temperatures below plus 18°C:
use fuel preheating equipment (see operator’s manual).
• At temperatures below minus 2°C:
in addition, preheat the engine with the coolant heater (see in addition, preheat the engine with the coolant heater (see operator’s manual).
• At temperatures below minus 5°C:
in addition, add 10 % diesel fuel to the vegetable oil.
• At temperatures below minus 10°C:
in addition, add 20 % diesel fuel to the vegetable oil.in addition, add 20 % diesel fuel to the vegetable oil.
• At temperatures below minus 15°C:

Advantages of PPO
• Lower emission of CO2
• Lower cost of energy• Lower cost of energy
• Lower risk of fire
• Independent of energy supply
• New place to work
