Newark Celebration 350 – Newark Celebrates 350th Anniversary

In 2016, Newark will throw a year-long celebration, marking its 350th anniversary. Founded in 1666 by

a colony of Puritans, New Jersey’s largest city has experienced a transformative history having been

an industrial center, bustling port and a mecca for insurance companies – an industry which continues

to flourish. Today, the bustling city is a thriving mecca for arts, culture and industry.

To celebrate its birth and rebirth over the years, the Newark Celebration 350 Committee, or NC350,

and the Military Park Partnership have planned events across the city and throughout the year. Events

will showcase the rich history of Newark as a way to engage people of all ages who live, work and

play in the city. A “Family Fun Fair” kicked off the celebration in October in Military Park. For a list of

Newark Has Arrived No longer content to sit in the shadows of New York, Newark is a popular tourist destination with a

growing arts and entertainment scene as well as a bustling business center with top-notch hotels and

Class-A office buildings.

In the center of it all sits historic Military Park, a six-acre city park where yoga classes, farmers markets,

and outdoor movies are just a small sampling of the activities held throughout the year. Military Park

symbolizes the renewal experienced by the city having reopened in June 2014 after a year of

revitalization.
