Realising the Vision… Where Central Salford is fragmented it will be reconnected. Through strategic transport and infrastructure improvements, and the establishment of more green and walkable streets,
linkages between neighbourhoods, to Manchester City Centre, and to the rest of Salford will be improved and communities will
be reconnected.
The Strategy has been developed to:
Support delivery of the “Vision” for Central Salford
Set out a sustainable strategy for travel to and in Central Salford
Create a high quality environment for Private sector investment
To and from Manchester central To and from Blackfriars To and from Ordsall
The key principles of the Integrated Transport Strategy are that it must:
Support economic growth Promote accessibility by all modes and all users Facilitate well designed streets and public spaces Create a high quality environment for Private sector investment
Overall the strategy aims to create a cityscape that will enable:
Double the amount of walking and cycling Double the use of rail services An increase in the use of bus services Double the amount of Metrolink usage
Existing and Proposed Metrolink Network
Everyone is a pedestrian at some stage of their journey. The Strategy’s main focus is to make the streets more attractive and safe by:
Creating new pedestrian priority spaces as part of key developments Creating wider footways with less street clutter Improved signalised crossings with less delay for pedestrians Roads crossed in a single movement where possible Carriageways narrowed in places More 20mph zones created Improved pedestrian signage Footways extended across minor roads Innovative “shared space” concepts introduced where appropriate New segregated shared footway/cycleways along the River Irwell and Canal corridors New pedestrian and cycle bridges will be built across the River Irwell
