New JISC Collections Catalogue
This catalogue highlights the range of online resources JISC Collections has licensed for the UK further and higher education sectors and in some instances research councils.
The catalogue is conveniently arranged into subject sections, free of charge & subscription based online resources
Most of the agreements are available to both FE and HE. If an agreement is FE only or HE only, this is clearly stated in the catalogue

The Times Digital Archive 1785-1985 represents unprecedented access to one of the most highly regarded resources for the study of 19th and 20th century history.
Users can search by date, keyword, full text of articles and illustrations
The new agreement is for one year only. In August 2008, following changes to the Times Digital Archive, there will be a new multi-year agreement put in place.
??? From August 2008, the Times will be updated to bring it up to the end of 2000 from 1985 – a further 15 years worth of content. The archive will grow by one year for each subsequent year.???

A unique collection of journals and English language newspapers, providing one of the largest aggregations of full-text periodical content available to Further Education institutions
The agreement will be for three years, running from 1st August 2007 to 31st July 2010
The FE Exemplars show how FE practitioners can use content found in online resources to support their teaching, learning and home-based study. Infotrac
InfoTrac OneFile and Custom Newspapers are featured in the Leisure, Hairdressing and Skills for Life exemplars.

Hairdressing Training
Funding from the Learning and Skills Council makes Hairdressing Training free of charge to all UK FE institutions from August
Hairdressing Training provides an online learning package to support teaching of hairdressing and barbering across various awards including NVQ, SVQ, Diplomas and Apprenticeships
It aims to put the fun into learning hairdressing
Hairdressing Training is useful for developing students’ IT skills

Provides opportunities for independent learning
Students can also incorporate parts of the resource in their assignments and portfolios
Teachers can use all or part of this resource, tailoring it to suit the needs of their course and particular student group

Digimap – Ordnance Survey Collection
A JISC-funded service (via EDINA) that delivers Ordnance Survey map data either via download for use with appropriate application software or as maps generated by Digimap online. Change to OS Mastermap
Special pricing available for FE institutions (approximate calculations suggest that around £15 million worth of data was downloaded last year)
Can be used for a wide range of courses e.g. art and design, history, skills for life, geography, engineering, computing
Examples of how this resource can be used in FE can be found in the JISC Collections Exemplars for FE and an article that appeared in the JISC Inform magazine (issue 9 – see http://www.jisc.ac.uk/uploaded_documents/inform9.pdf)

Changes to ProQuest Learning: Literature Colleges Edition
ProQuest Learning: Literature Colleges Edition is being replaced by Literature Online: Reference Edition for Colleges in Summer 2007
The current licence arrangement between JISC Collections and ProQuest Information and Learning is being extended from January until the end of July 2007
A new agreement to cover arrangements for a further three years after July 2007 will is now available at http://www.jisc-collections.ac.uk/litonlinefe

New Agreement- European Sources Online (ESO)
European Sources Online (ESO)- formerly KnowEurope
Launch due early August 2007
Due to a highly successful consultation with the community, JISC Collections is pleased to announce a new agreement for European Sources Online (ESO)
European Sources Online (ESO) is a unique single source of full text information on Europe with a primary focus on the European Union. The online database includes information on fifty European countries, the work of other international organisations operating within Europe as well as on issues of concern to students, researchers, citizens and stakeholders living and working in Europe.

New Agreement- European Sources Online (ESO)

ESO offers access to full text materials from:
– the EU and other international organisations, national governments, think tanks and research organisations, professional organisations and NGOs via links to the external web
– key commercial news sources such as The Financial Times and European Voice, and
– the ESO editorial team in the form of a series of information guides covering European institutions, policies and countries.

New Agreement- European Sources Online (ESO)
As the resource is being re-launched with its new publishers, Cardiff University, early adopters to European Sources Online will have access free of charge to the 'beta version' from July this year. Subscription fees will be payable from January 1st 2008.
European Sources Online is a proven information service of long and respected pedigree. Under its earlier name of KnowEurope it won the ‘Electronic sources’ category of the European Information Association Awards for European Information Sources 1999.

Aim
The aim of the activity is to inform and educate practitioners in the FE and HE sectors in the UK some of the key issues about using copyrighted material in a digital online environment and the role of JISC Collections (and the JISC Model licence) in the provision of solutions to these issues.
Audience
The activity is targeted at teachers and lecturers in FE and HE. It will also be useful for curriculum managers, learning technologists, learning resources staff and any staff who deal with digital resources.

JISC Collections Exemplars for FE
JISC commissioned a series of five exemplars which demonstrate how FE practitioners can use content found in online resources to support their teaching.
The FE Exemplars show how practitioners can use text and images from these resources to support classroom learning and home based study to meet the core syllabus. The exemplars provide walkthroughs for the scenarios which relate to specific qualifications.
There are five Exemplars covering the following subjects: History, Leisure, Hairdressing, Business and Skills for Life
