Building an effective should be the goal of every business owner. If your business cannot run without you, then it's not a business. It's a job. When you build a team to run the day to day operation it frees your time up. You can focus on marketing or additional profit centers. The point is, you need a team to run the business so you can focus on building your business. It might sound scary but it's certainly not. And the benefits far out weigh any small risk. Andrew here f or LeanMeanMarketing.com. In today’s video let’s talk about teams and running an ef f icientteam whether you only have one person or a slew of people. Let’s get right to it.

For many years, I have survived by myself with one diligent personal assistant and a series of contractworkers that we would work on a part- t ime basis when we needed them f or the work. I survived like that f ormany years, no problem. But over the last several months I’ve decided to massively scale my ownbusinesses so I’ve built a primary team and a secondary team that supports that primary team.

The questions I am asked are:

How in God’s name do you manage all of these people?

How do you know if people are getting work done?

What do you do?

One of the f unny things that I’ve heard especially in thelast f ew weeks that we’ve been helping a couple ofcustomers f inish websites and organize SEO strategy (dueto bad link building) is that they have hired one person oreven just a part- t ime person and that went horribly wrong. If that went bad with one person, they can’t even imaginehaving a group of people.

The way I look at it: Number one, your interviewing processis key. You have to be able to identif y the good workersf rom the problem children right of f the bat. I mean, youhave to be able to pick those people out and not hire themto begin with. That’s really the key to everything.

Our recruitment process is actually quite complex in that itworks in 3 stages. We never hire someone just of f of aposting; they always have to prove themselves with both aportf olio and then an actual live test to prove those skills.Doing that helps you weed out a lot of the people who just blatantly f abricate their resumes or their

postings.

Af ter that, once they join your team and you have a team, that’s just it. You have to remember that even ifyou only have one person, you’re a team; and that’s key. My group, I mean, we’re a team. I’m a member ofthat team just like they’re all a member of that team. They work with me and we work together. I truly look atit that way. I think having the right mindset like that, a team-oriented mindset is the dif f erence and that makespeople want to work f or you and want to work on the team. It makes people want to work hard.

If you yourself were working f or someone who is just demanding, not appreciative, and just basically tellsyou what to do all day, realistically, how much ef f ort would you want to give to that?

People want to look f orward to going to work every day. I look f orward to going to work every day and soshould your team. Show appreciation, reward them, and take care of them.

Another extremely important component of an ef f icient team is good and open communication. People haveto be f ree to speak their mind and be comf ortable knowing that if they voice their opinion they are not goingto get yelled at or that there’s not going to be some backlash.

People need to be able to express themselves, concerns, but more importantly, express ideas. You have tobe able to make clear that’s f ine and you need to accept that when someone does.

For my own personal group, we talk every single day because I actually look f orward to speaking with them. Icare what they do on the weekends, I care about their f amilies, and I care that they’re doing okay, and Igenuinely do. It makes communication, it makes working together, and it makes the team dynamic so muchsmoother.

I can tell you right now that this group works on my most important sites, I mean, they’re not working onperiphery sites or stuf f in my business away f rom the important stuf f . They work on the things thatgenerate all of my income f or me. I have no issues with that because again, they’re highly trained and they’rea trusted group. If you hire properly and you keep communication open and you target the right people, youtoo can get the same kind of results.

Even if you have one person or 10 persons working f or you, just remember those f ew tips. Opencommunication, actually care about them, reward them when they do a good job, and be diligent in yourrecruitment process because really that’s where it all starts.

Again, this is Andrew Hiddleston f or LeanMeanMarketing.com. I hope you f ound this video usef ul; I’ll talk toyou soon.
