A new workout routine starts out as exciting, but before you know it, you’re making up endless excuses for why you can’t make it to the gym. Remember that a key component of success is moderation. It’s easy to do workouts that are too frequent or too intense when you are excited to see results, but in general, you should start at a comfortable level and build up. The increase in frequency and intensity should be gradual in accordance with your changing fitness level.

Think about your reasons for starting an exercise routine. It may be a newfound interest in a healthy lifestyle, an upcoming vacation or special event, or any number of other reasons. Remembering your motivation is powerful and provides what's necessary to take the steps toward staying on course. Within that line of thinking, consider keeping a journal to document your progress and milestones reached.
