Fiesta Queen Statistics

• 110 feet Long 20 feet wide• Dinner and Wedding Boat• 5 fresh water intakes for 3 diesel engines and

2 support pump engines.• 149 passenger capacity• 25 ton net tonnage• Side Wheel Paddle Boat

Timeline

• Boat Sold out of Laughlin Nevada on March 15 owner shipping it to Saskatchewan

• Notified by NPS that the boat is in Utah at Wahweep on April 9

• Transported by Regelman Family Motor Sports• Interdiction starts on April 10. Aramark inc.

assists• Aramark and Boat-owner negotiate a daily

storage rate

Timeline Continued

• Boat is decontaminated on April 27 with 140 degree hot water in all areas where standing water existed.

• Utah drafts a letter certifying the boat as clean and notifies states and provinces of the release.

• Fiesta Queen is released on May 8.

Estimated Costs

• Approx. $6000.00 Storage at Aramark paid by the boat owner.

• Division equipment and personnel costs in excess of $12,000.00

• Does not include lab costs and time and effort by NPS and others.

Lessons Learned

• A cooperative Boat Owner made all the difference.

• Preplan for the potential interdiction of a large vessel.(Storage, decontamination issues etc.)

• Boat Haulers in this case were not concerned about the threat.

• The current Network of notification is good and getting better as we go.
