I was inducted as Head of Special Products Division, with additional charge of the Marine Division. Later promoted to GM of both Divisions as part of Company’s restructuring program. The Group caters to military, aviation, marine, various engineering sectors, and shipping & logistics. Role. To provide turnkey solutions to clients and foreign Principals. Responsibilities. Project identification, development and management, including Bid preparation, and directing logistics chain operations for 2 SBUs. Achievements. Turned around performance of loss-making SBU in the very 1 st year of joining Company. US$ 13.8 mill. – Total value of 2 independent Ministry contracts for first-of-kind Projects. Concluded JV arrangements with MNCs based in Monaco (Mar 2007) and India (Apr 2008). US$ 5.07 mill. – Total value of 13 breakwater armouring contracts with local Companies over 3 year period. Simultaneously coordinated technical and administrative tasks at different sites. US$ 2.01 mill. – Gross value of numerous ongoing 3-year running contracts for supply of military items to Ministry customers. US$ 3.35 mill. In Nov 2008, won a new 3-year running contract with Ministry for a single product amidst stiff competition, after over 2 months tough negotiations. US$ 1.01 mill. – Gross value of one-time contracts during 8 months of 2008 for supplying military hardware and fitness equipment. US$ 400,000 – Project cost for providing warranty support to ferries and boats sold previously to a Ministry under a contract worth US$ 89 million. Designated Project Technical Manager. US$ 250,000 – Project cost for providing on-site marine consultancy services for fitting out and commissioning of a Royal Yacht. Designated as Project Manager.

In Jan 1999, opened a new Marine Division in Hi-Tech. Later in Jan 2003, started Falcon Technical for the same owner/sponsor. Main business activity was in-country service provider of reputed foreign Principals manufacturing and supplying military, aviation, marine and general engineering technology, products and services.

Role and Responsibilities: Developing new Projects and customers for defence, marine, aviation and general engineering sectors.

Achievements:

• US$ 3.2 mill. – Value of new business developed against backdrop of low world crude oil prices ranging between US$ 10 to 27 from 1998 till end-2003. Hence, trade and industry turnover was low as government and corporates were conservative in their market investments.

• Concluded Agency Agreements with 8 MNCs worldwide for a range of military products thus positioning the 2 companies for increased business turnover when oil prices started ballooning again from end 2004.

CAPTAIN. Successfully completed 24-year career with the Indian Navy in marine and aeronautical specializations. Gained upper-level manager status.

Gave strategic direction to military indigenization initiatives for warships.

Participated in complete revitalization and revamping of technical and logistics management operatives of Indian Naval Aviation, especially of Soviet origin aircraft and systems.

An active contributor to the New Management System (NMS) which decentralized budgeting and expenditure control. This led to swift/forceful turnaround of developmental initiatives in the Navy as a whole. Part of the senior management team that ventured to prove that military could be managed like a well-tuned corporate machine.

An exemplary record for managing complex organizations, supervising thousands of people through multi-layered line-management personnel, jointly responsible for millions of dollars in assets.

Specific duties and significant achievements include following:

Management:

Aviation. Directing Maintenance and Repair Operations (MRO) for aircraft and helicopters operating from warships and shore bases. Responsibilities included fleet forecasting, planning, controlling, coordinating, motivating and stimulating the workforce into action to achieve defined programs. Modernized aircraft fleet maintenance and logistics support philosophy through best practices and solutions. Systematized direct logistics procurement from private firms. Independent liaison with foreign vendors for equipment spares and Project support.

Marine. Second-in-Command of the MOD’s nodal QA/QC Directorate charged with assuring highest standards of equipment being procured for the Indian Navy’s new-build warships. In a short tenure of 7 months, successfully developed numerous indigenous substitutes for major components, placed development orders worth US$ 28 mill. and conducted quality audit of equipment worth approx US$ 4.2 mill.

General. A highly skilled technical individual, computer literate, able to maximize Management Information Systems to increase profitability.

Operations:

Projects. Head of Project Team for overseeing construction of Naval Air Station as Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) base for new induction aircraft. Project pre-escalation outlay was budgeted at about US$ 75 mill. Project involved foreign OEMs, domestic suppliers, civil engineering firms and government agencies.

New Acquisition. Successfully cross-trained abroad for flight-systems engineering and induction of new long-range maritime reccee aircraft squadron for the Indian Navy.
