Article 1 Summary

FUTUREPERSPECTIVE - A Vision of Education for the 21st Century

There are schools that are trying to integrate online courses for students instead of AP classes. These online classes will take the place of AP classes. The students can also receive college credit for these classes. The classes will be in high demand because they make more financial sense. Instead of having tests to see if a student is smart enough to go into an AP the student can just enroll and take a college level course.

The general idea is to be the first ones to integrate college courses into our high school curriculum. Because whomever takes the leap and does this first will always essentially own it. Because these classes have such great advantages they will be in high demand. The classes will not only offer college credit but real life experience, group work, and trips. Also because it is online it would be easy to access from home as well as from a classroom.

Article 1 Personal Reflection Slide

I feel that this is essential to integrate into our education system. Every year students are piling more and more classes onto their plate just to graduate in five years. Not to mention how expensive college is. The online classes just make sense. If a high school student can get a whole year out of the way in high school and receive that experience I feel that they would be better prepared when they actually do attend a university. As well as feel more comfortable going into college because they will know what to expect.

Article 2 summary slideThe NASA Lewis Research Center's Learning Technologies Project

This particular article states that having our classrooms go digital would be extremely beneficial. There are students that can take AP classes and transfer them later to college credit. This makes their lives and teachers lives easier. If you make web based classrooms accessible through linking counties or cities more students can interact. This makes classes cost effective because you can have forty kids, twenty from Orlando and twenty from Miami all taking the same class. They get to have the real world experience of dealing with others from other places.

Students can also take field trips virtually instead of spending the money to transport them there. Using new technology in the classroom is a great way to excite your students about learning as well as earning them college credit along the way.

Article 2 Personal Reflection Slide

As much as I love the idea of taking AP classes for college credit. I don’t believe it should be the only way for obtaining college credit in high school. I do love the fact that you can take online classes with people across the state just like in college online classes. I don’t like that the students can go on field trips electronically I feel like the students would lose something since they wouldn’t experience the place first hand. Sometimes students need to be immersed in a place to understand what they are learning and field trips are great at that.

This article was talking about a network that could link students across the U.S. as well as teachers, and administrators. While using this network to share ideas and teaching strategies it is also a good way to ease the special need children into their new classrooms each year. The network also has given schools the ability to offer its’ students classes for college credit. As well as giving access to teachers for online classes as their license expires and they need to take more college courses. This network is also good for the administrators because they can hold conferences or discussions without even leaving their desks.

This network while helping students and teachers to continue their education. Is not functioning everywhere in the U.S. yet. This network offers less fortunate schools the ability to provide the education their students need. The schools can have more specialized classes with trained teachers for little cost. Thus making their school grow and thrive in their community.

I feel that this Network would be beneficial to everyone involved and if schools don’t know about this they should. There are so many new ways to integrate technology into your classroom and make you school better. I did not even know that they were doing this. This is an easy way for students to obtain college credit while still being in high school. This tool is an easy way for students, faculty, administrators, and special needs children to get ahead.

In conclusion I have found that the number of schools that will offer college credits to high school students will grow rapidly. Of course kids want to get a jump start into college. Parents and faculty will also be excited as every school around the U.S. will begin to introduce this growing trend. These articles not only have given insight to these programs but also other useful tools that come with the programs. Such as, contact with other teachers and student across the United States as well as sharing ideas and teaching strategies. I know that these programs will benefit our education system. It will also help keep the classrooms up to date with current technology and helpful resources to better our students.
