• Mentor Volunteer- Janani Viswanathan

• Mentor Teacher- Ms.Latha

USE OF PLASTICS

• Very cheap• Very easy to manufacture• Can hold water• Can be Recycled

ILL EFFECTS OF PLASTICS

• It does not decompose• It emits harmful gases when burnt• It does not allow rain water to go through

the soil

INCIDENT WHICH MADE US FEEL

• We saw a deer which started eating plastics in the zoo.

• It suffered a lot after eating, this incident made us to avoid plastics.

IMAGINE

• We thought of using papers• Ms. Latha guided us to DO it.

PAPER BAGS- DO IT!

• We planned to design our own paper bags

• We used newspapers for bags

• For handles we used bit cloths thrown out by tailors.

• For gum we used maida

ADVANTAGES OF PAPER BAGS

• It gets decomposed• It does not emit very harmful gases• It is not harmful to nature and its very

cheap

SHARE IT!

• We shared our bags to shops near our houses.

• We got a good response and we are bringing awareness around.

• We and our parents get things only in the bags we made and distributed.

OUR NEXT INITIATIVE

• We have planned to distribute these bags on a regular basis to shops.( An average of 10 shops)

• We are going to bring awareness to even people living in our area.

• Planning to learn ways of designing bags that hold more weight and which are more attractive to look at.

DFC in Media!

• One of the most beautiful moments of the entire event, when two young girls from Pudiyador, Ramavaram (a Bhumi learning centre) made a small presentation about the change they had identified and implemented, which is, the use of paper bags over plastic bags.-The Weekend Leader.com.

• SUBASHINI J. and M. RATHNA, VII, Pudiyador NGO for underprivileged children, Ramapuram: On a trip to the zoo we saw a deer eating plastic that was lying in its enclosure and we saw it suffer because of that. That's when we realised the dangers of plastic and we thought that something had to be done. There are so many newspapers that go unused. We decided to use them to make paper bags with maida for glue. We went around to different shops in our area and gave them the bags made by about 40 of us at the home. At first they did not see the need for it, but when a girl refused to take her purchases in a plastic bag, they too realised its importance.- The Hindu, Young World

We expect all the people in this world to use paper and avoid plastics .!

We expected a change , and so we did the change !!!

Thanking you
