MMANAGING DIRECTORS' REPORT

You will also read an article focusing on Work Health and Safety initiatives taken across CMV. The introduction of this segment, recognizes the importance which the company places on providing a safe working environment for its staff, customers and visitors. The management team has been guided in our aim to improve our performance by Steve Palyga, who is our most recently appointed CMV Director, and who is "passionate and driven" to help us achieve this goal. We want to publically acknowledge his leadership.

CMV businesses compete annually to win various awards from the franchise principals for excellence in carrying out their business and taking care of customers. It was a great thrill for the staff and management, as well as the Directors of CMV, when CMI Hino Adelaide was recently announced the National Hino Metropolitan Dealer of the Year Award. Chris Morrison runs a very successful and customer driven business at Regency Park and CMI Hino "punched well above their weight" to win the "best of the best" award against strong opposition from the eastern seaboard favourites. A great result.

We hope that you enjoy browsing through this edition of Outlook.

Paul and Michael CrawfordJoint Managing Directors

Much has been written in recent time about the Federal Budget. Most have criticised the severity of its cost cutting measures, while others have recognised the need to reverse the rate of increase in Australia's defi cit. The Treasurer would argue that "the pain has been equitably spread across the population" and that we all need to contribute in the short term to avoid burdening future generations. The opposition would argue that less fortunate are being asked to carry more than their share. Politics is the art of compromise! We are confi dent that will be the case.

As a company, we are also encouraged that the government is determined to strengthen Australia's economic competitiveness. Furthermore, it has been prepared to make unpopular decisions, regardless of the political consequences, having long term objectives extending 20 years and more into the future. This approach will allow individuals and businesses alike to make their plans with greater certainty.

Meanwhile, it is very pleasing to report that, despite all the various challenges facing business, the various divisions of CMV have combined to produce another very satisfactory profi t result for the year. A signifi cant contribution from CMV Farms has more than offset some tougher trading conditions in some of our automotive businesses, again highlighting the strength of the Group's diversity. A strong trading result in our 80th year, one of our strongest on record, is a great outcome.

Speaking of our 80 years, throughout this edition of Outlook you will see many references to the celebrations held across the company on February 26th, the day CMV was incorporated, in 1934, 80 years ago. And there will be more events to come in the next few months, including special staff and partner dinners, customer functions and signifi cant donations to a range of charities to put something back into our community which has allowed CMV to grow into the company it is today.

MANAGING DIRECTORS' REPORT

MEANWHILE, IT IS VERY PLEASING TO REPORT THAT, DESPITE ALL THE VARIOUS CHALLENGES FACING BUSINESS, THE VARIOUS DIVISIONS OF CMV HAVE COMBINED TO PRODUCE ANOTHER VERY SATISFACTORY PROFIT RESULT FOR THE YEAR

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Hello to you all.

It gives me great pleasure to be writing to you in the year that the CMV Group is celebrating its 80th anniversary. This is a signifi cant milestone in the Group’s history. The fact that we have a growing, profi table business employing around 1400 people, managed by 3rd generation Crawford family members with 4th generation family members already making their mark is a tremendous achievement. Many businesses pass from one generation to the next, a few get to the third generation; almost none survive into the 4th generation. Maybe we are in unchartered waters but I can assure you that we are genuinely excited by the prospects.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

CDavid SimmonsChairman

It was on the 26th February 1934 that the CMV Group was incorporated. On the 26th February 2014 we held our monthly Board meeting at CMI Hino in Adelaide. Michael Crawford asked me to say a few words about the signifi cance of the 80th anniversary at a special staff morning tea on that day. In preparation I researched what was in the Advertiser on Monday 26th February 1934. I learnt the following:

• Body odor was apparently robbing thousands of women of popularity. Lifebuoy soap was the recommended remedy.

• Fashion shirts with 2 collars were available from John Martins for 3/11 (that’s 3 shillings and 11 pence for the youngsters).

• A horse called “Man at Arms” won at Caulfi eld on the preceding Saturday at odds of 50:1 (some things never change).

• On page 6, a prominent notice recording the incorporation of Commercial Motor Vehicles Limited appeared.

In 1934, the effects of the Great Depression were still very real. Unemployment reached 30% in 1932 (one of the highest levels in the world). Federal and State Governments had cut spending by 20% and GDP (a measure of growth in an economy) was -10%. Credit (money from banks) was very tight and very limited. Big cities were depopulated as thousands of unemployed men took to the country in search of menial agricultural work. Suicide rates had increased dramatically.

So, it would be a brave and adventurous man who had the courage to start a new business in such times. Such a man was Sid Crawford. Humble beginnings….you bet. The telegraphic code name (telegraphs were a system of transmitting messages from a distance along a wire by making and breaking an electrical connection and every company had there own unique code or name) was “BETHANKFUL”; maybe it should have been

“HOPEANDPRAY”

There have been good and bad years over the 80 years. I am sure the fact that the business is prospering now can in part be attributed to the fact that the early years were so tough. Today we have a strong business as a result of brand, segment, geographic and industry diversifi cation (from trucks to cars to sauvignon blanc). Above all however I believe that our success has its foundation in our business reputation. It is the DNA of the CMV Group, our intellectual property if you like. We are all temporary custodians. With our reputation in tact, 100 years of continuous business operations is possible. Now, that would be a party I would like to attend!

We should always celebrate our success and our heritage. Enjoy the celebrations in our 80th year and occasionally refl ect on the past.

Until next time.

IT WOULD BE A BRAVE AND ADVENTUROUS MAN WHO HAD THE COURAGE TO START A NEW BUSINESS IN SUCH TIMES. SUCH A MAN WAS SID CRAWFORD. HUMBLE BEGINNINGS…YOU BET

CMV HUMAN RESOURCES

A CMV business that has made some outstanding progress with Workplace Health and Safety is CMI Portside. Led by the Service Manager, Regan Anderson, CMI Portside has signifi cantly reduced the number of recordable injuries in the workplace. CMI Portside now has one of the best safety records in the Group.

Regan believes the process in achieving this safety record has not been complicated. “What we did was pretty simple, fi rst we actioned all the items from the previous MTA audit, then we did the same with the results from our internal audit conducted by Adam McCallum, Chris Shepherd and Ben Glover. We have made work health and safety the number one agenda item in our weekly toolbox meetings; we welcome and treat all suggestions with respect which has helped mould our work health and safety culture. The changes we have made in the workshop have rubbed off on all staff within the dealership. We are a very safety conscious business.”

The internal audits or peer review process have been integral in the safety improvement at CMI Portside. The peer reviews have been conducted across the CMI Toyota branches. Regan believes a different set of eyes, someone who doesn’t attend the workplace on a daily basis, provides a fresh analysis of the workplace and the various tasks undertaken. “The peer review has helped me immensely. Chris and Ben as Service Managers at other CMI Toyota branches have been able to help me identify numerous hazards and risks.”

The results at CMI Portside have been outstanding. The total recordable injury frequency rate is exceptional at 10.82. The last external workplace audit produced a result above 90%.

Branch Manager, Steve Thomson has been delighted with the improvement in the safety record at CMI Portside. “We have made a concerted effort to improve the safety culture within the branch. Regan Anderson has shown outstanding leadership in this area and all of his staff know that safety is our number one priority. I am very proud that CMI Portside has one of the best safety records in the CMV Group. We will be working very hard to maintain this standard.”

CMV FOUNDATION

FREE THROW FOUNDATIONThe Free Throw Foundation exists to serve underprivileged youth, providing families and individuals with the chance to participate in basketball teams, covering costs such as uniforms, fees, travel expenses and insurance. Through the Foundation, the kids are given opportunities to succeed, work in teams and be mentored by the coaches. They approached the CMV Foundation for fi nancial assistance and their submission was approved. We wish them all the very best with the 2014 season and congratulate them on their assistance to those in need.

KICK START FOR KIDSKick Start for Kids was developed by Ian Steel in late 2010. The charity is based on helping disadvantaged school kids by providing them with breakfast, lunch and also mentoring programmes.

The SAFM breakfast team ran a fundraising appeal to raise awareness and support for this fantastic charity. The CMV Foundation, through CMI Toyota, were pleased to be able to support the SAFM initiative and made a donation in the form of a Toyota Yaris. The Yaris will assist the charity with the delivery of services to the schools and children in need.

We also made a donation towards the Little Heroes Foundation. This donation provided Christmas food hampers to approximately 40 families who have a child being treated for a serious illness at Christmas time.

Danielle Whitaker, the Little Heroes Care Program Manager was kind enough to send a photo of some of the hampers, and included an unforgettable note of thanks from one of the recipients.

The Little Heroes Christmas Hampers funded by the South Australian CMV Staff Foundation

NATURE FOUNDATION SAThe Nature Foundation operates within South Australia with very specifi c objectives regarding the management of the Hiltaba Nature Reserve. They requested funding to support their project in establishing and maintaining healthy populations of key fauna, specifi cally the Slender-billed Thornbill, the Short-tailed Grasswren and the Yellow-footed rock-wallaby. The Foundation supported the submission and is pleased to be able to assist in the important environmental conservation which the Nature Foundation is undertaking.

“This is just a short note to express our gratitude, and say ‘thanks’ to you for your contribution to the Christmas hamper we received via Little Heroes Foundation last week. I’m a Dad whose 6 year old daughter is currently undergoing radiation and chemotherapy treatment for aggressive brain cancer. It’s been a diffi cult few months for us as a family since we received the diagnosis, and in the midst of daily hospital visits, juggling caring for our other son, and trying to adjust to everything involved in working through this, receiving things like your hamper are very signifi cant to families like ours. Not only is it full of very practical things, but the message it gives us is important; that people care.

So thank you again and please be assured that your generosity to families you may never meet – but who are dealing with great trauma – makes a real difference!” Adrian Blenkinsop

CMV STAFF FOUNDATIONCMV Staff Charitable Foundation – VictoriaWe held our fi rst meeting for the year in February and it was a busy one. Here’s some of what we did:

1. Sent our sincerest congratulations and best wishes to Alastair and Alix MacInnes on the birth of their fi rst child, Emma Grace.

2. Said farewell to Paul Cass, who decided to step down from the committee after 5+ years of dedicated service – many thanks Paul.

3. Welcomed Renee Versey to the committee.4. Welcomed Shelley Calopa of Special Olympics

Victoria, who together with one of their athletes and coaches, spoke to us about what Special Olympics Victoria is and what it does. Here’s just a small part of what was presented:

Promoting Inclusion Through Community Engagement

We promote inclusion and awareness by involving corporate partners, families and volunteers in all our activities. Special Olympics exists today only because of the commitment and enthusiasm of the dedicated volunteers. On our board of management, are sport referees, coaches and caterers. Our volunteers also work tirelessly to build partnerships between schools, disability groups and the wider community.

Whether it is at local weekly training sessions or high profi le national events, this community engagement helps break down barriers, creates greater understanding and acceptance of people with disabilities.

National Organisation – Local Focus

On a worldwide basis, Special Olympics serves over 4 million athletes across 226 programs in over 170 countries. In Australia we host 11500 sports sessions specifi cally tailored for 7700 athletes across 16 sports and we are supported by 3000 dedicated volunteers each week.

Special Olympics Victoria is affi liated with Special Olympics Australia, but has its own independent board. We run weekly sports training for over 1000 athletes in 13 local clubs including; Ballarat, Barwon, Bendigo, Dandenong Valley, Echuca-Campaspe, Gippsland, 5 Melbourne metro regions, Ovens & Murray, Westernport. In 2014 we aim to set up two new regions in Horsham and Mildura.

Our primary objective in 2014 is participation growth. We have much work to do promoting awareness of our current services and building capacity for the future. We aim to double the number of participating athletes this year, signifi cantly increase our volunteer base, increase awareness of disability issues generally and more specifi cally the role Special Olympics Victoria can play in improving the lives of people with intellectual disability.

Following the presentation by Shelley, Justin and Phil, the following donation requests were presented and recommended for support:

A. Special Olympics B. Options Victoria C. HeartKids Aust – A support group for families

CELEBRATING 80 YEARS WITH MORNING TEA

On the 26th February, the CMV Group celebrated its 80th year as a proud, family-owned and operated enterprise. The Group’s origins trace back to 1934 and fi rst began as a small motor dealer in Adelaide. The CMV Group now employs more than 1,200 people across a wide range of professions and has established itself as an employer of choice within the automotive and agricultural industries.

This 80 year achievement is important in recognising the incredible contribution that our staff continue to make, to each and every business we operate. To celebrate on the day, 80th year anniversary themed cupcakes, wine and commemorative badges were delivered to each division across Australia for staff to enjoy a morning tea together. It was great to see all the divisions enjoying the day.

To date, the CMV Group’s interests cover the road transport industry, buses, passenger vehicles, light commercials and 4WD vehicles as well as major viticultural and horticultural interests.

The values of the business over the past 80 years have remained the same; a genuine interest in both our customers and employees, optimism, integrity in all dealings and a concern for the wider community in which we live.

Since 2007 the Cobden Technical College teachers and students have built, modifi ed and upgraded solar cars. The teams then compete at Maryborough, Victoria in the RACV Energy Breakthrough Challenge.

The Challenge objective is to run the solar cars for 24 hours completing as many laps as possible. In 2013 the teams and their cars placed 1st, 2nd & 5th.

Four of the current CMV Cobden mechanics, Bevan Stewart (2007), Brendan Drewry (2009 and 2010), Jacob Pekin (2010) and Tyler Price (2011), have competed in this challenge.

Brendan, Jacob and Tyler were also part of the Work Place Program run through the Cobden Technical School, before beginning their apprenticeships with CMV Truck & Bus.

At present the Cobden Technical School is working towards establishing a Corangamite Trade Training Centre at the Cobden site. CMV Cobden is looking forward to growing a relationship with the Cobden Technical School, through the one day a week work placement (VCAL) and school based apprenticeships.

Later, the diversion of emergency services to fi re affected areas around the state meant that the big showdown for overall honours in the Jayco Herald Sun Tour was cancelled. As to be expected, the spirit of competition was put aside to ensure participant safety. However, with personal feats and organisational challenges conquered, the resilience of riders, supporters and the event crew shone as bright as ever. What a great day and what a great cause!

CMV TRUCK & BUS SUPPORTS AMY GILLETT FOUNDATIONThe Amy Gillett Foundation is a charity with one purpose – to reduce the incidence of death and injury of bike riders. The Foundation was born out of tragedy; the death of Amy Gillett, who was hit by an out of control motorist whilst cycling with her national team mates in Germany. Since the inception of the foundation it has been a catalyst for change, focusing on what should be, rather than what is.

The 9th edition of Amy’s Ride Victoria was full of fi rsts in many ways, including the opportunity to participate in the Jayco Herald Sun Tour. The tour offers a new venue and new route taking in Arthur’s Seat. It is a day that tests the mettle of even the most seasoned campaigners.

Team CMV consisted of 12 riders, Jeff Tyzack, Matt Smith, Rob and Salleigh Johnston, Theresa Credlin, Liam Sewell, Craig Pareezer, Ian, Monique and Jacob Vagg, David Allwood and Alex Ragas.

Arthur’s Seat greeted riders with a heart-starting hill climb with and the wording “a metre matters” emblazoned on the road to spread the safety message. The team looked forward to the rest stops which enabled everyone to re-fuel for what was an epic day on the bike.

By mid-morning, the decision to close the 100km route and divert all riders not yet past the halfway mark to the 60km circuit was overwhelmingly supported by riders. The CFA had been monitoring fi re and weather conditions and a consensus quickly formed that there was safety (and air conditioning!) in numbers back at the event hub. A fresh lunch and some friendly smiles was the absolute priority.

Welcome Brady!

CMV TRUCK & BUS LAVERTON – VOLVO

It has been a busy few months for the Laverton Volvo team with a number of important events coming around very quickly, including a trip to Sweden for a number of our sales team and the Koroit Field Days.

NEWCOMB SAND AND SOIL SUPPLIES TURNS 50!Newcomb Sand and Soil, one of our valued customers at CMV Truck and Bus Laverton Volvo, had great reason to celebrate recently as the company proudly passed its fi ftieth anniversary in business. Much like the CMV Group, Newcomb Sand and Soil is a family company that began back in 1963 when Doug and Joy Dunoon started their business stockpiling sand and soil for the Geelong industrial and residential markets.

Today the business employs over thirty people and operates fi ve sandpit sites in the Geelong region as well as two recycling and blending facilities at Point Henry and Breakwater. This is in addition to the heart of the business, still operating on Bellarine Hwy, Moolap, where the company’s garden supplies business operates.

Today the second generation of the Dunoon family all work in the business and operate a signifi cant fl eet of trucks among a diverse range of earthmoving and associated equipment. Sitting proudly among the fl eet are a number of Volvo’s including their most recent addition, a brand new Volvo FM 500. Volvo salesman Andrew Cox was fortunate enough to take brothers Stewart and Chris Dunoon north to the Volvo factory in Brisbane to watch the new truck come off the line. Andrew reports that Stewart and Chris were so interested in the manufacturing process that the usual one hour factory tour took well over two hours on this occasion.

We want to congratulate the entire Dunoon family on the great success of Newcomb Sand and Soil Supplies and wish them the very best for the next fi fty years!

KOROIT FIELD DAYSAndrew Cox attended the very successful Koroit Field Days, run over the Australia Day long weekend. We were very fortunate to be able to display two great trucks, the newly released Volvo FH 540 prime mover, and a three year old FH 540 Globetrotter kindly lent by Craig Fox of KW & EF Fox Pty Ltd. Many thanks go to Craig Fox for the loan of the truck and for his continuing loyalty to Volvo Trucks. Craig runs an all Volvo fl eet including two FH’s an FM and a FE, so he has the range covered.

Recently we delivered the last of our 50 Year Anniversary Southern Cross units to Dan and Michael Cahill, owners of Cahill Transport. It was the last unit of the 5 we delivered. As you will see by the pictures, the truck is a 1979 plated Southern Cross unit. The vehicle was air brushed with murals of the great legend John Wayne on either side. Dan chose 1979 as this was the year John Wayne passed away.

Both Dan and Mick are fans of John Wayne and thought it would be great to put together a special edition Superliner with murals of the great actor. They depict Mack and “The Duke” as American

CMV TRUCK & BUS LAVERTON – MACK/UD

During the month of March, Mack Trucks relaunched its new branding, highlighting both the word Mack, and of course, the Bulldog which is synonymous with the Mack Brand. I was fortunate enough to attend the global launch of the new branding in Las Vegas and it was a very exciting and emotional programme, highlighting the heritage of the 140 years of the Mack Brand.

We are fortunate at Mack Laverton to have a sales team that has recently been awarded further recognition for their achievements through the 2013 calendar year. Rob Cavka achieved ‘Gold Dog’ status and has recently returned from a meeting of high achieving Mack sales personnel in Mexico. Rob’s comment is that he is not planning on eating anymore taco’s for some time! Only two people from Australia attended this global conference.

Paul Schulz has again achieved silver status in the Bulldog Club. Paul hasn’t missed a year without being recognised and we are now revamping his offi ce to house his awards. For his achievements in 2013, our UD Trucks Sales Consultant Alan Craig was recently awarded a study trip to Japan to visit the UD facilities. Alan only joined the UD sales team in January 2013 and has done a fantastic job, becoming one of the top sales people in the country. To all our respective sales team, congratulations on a job well done!

Giulio Mascioli has recently joined us in the Mack Sales Department. Luke Zanfagna is now the Administration Manager, Steve Doneski has been appointed Parts Manager and Neil Hawkett, Parts Supervisor. Justin Pyers has been appointed Deputy Service Manager and is assisting our long term Service Manager, Rex Moretti.

On the 11th April, 2014, our Parts Interpreter Chris McDonald, celebrated 35 years with the Mack brand. This is a signifi cant achievement, as many people will understand. Chris has so much Mack experience and knowledge which he has used to assist many of our customers over the years. We celebrated Chris’s achievement over morning tea at the dealership. Well done, Chris!

The trip was a great success and we thank Volvo for this fantastic once in a lifetime opportunity.

UD SALESMAN OF THE YEARCongratulations to James Goodchap who has won the UD Salesman of the Year Award for 2013. This is James’ second time receiving this award. Approaching his 10th year with the brand, 2013 was a record year for James – he topped the ultimate rewards chart and out sold his fellow salesmen nation-wide by over 30%!

CELEBRATING MACK’S 50TH BIRTHDAYIn November 2013, we celebrated 50 years of Mack Trucks in Australia with a customer function at the Cranbourne Turf Club. It was a fantastic night with entertainment from the Fitzgerald Bros, plenty of laughs from our magician and comedian Warren Jackman, and a very interesting presentation from Phil Ruthven.

The night culminated with the presentation of the keys to Warwick Doolan of Doolan’s Heavy Haulage’s new Southern Cross Mack Titan “1968”. A great night was had by all and the new Titan looked fantastic.

FROM THE MANAGER’S DESKThe fi rst quarter has been a very successful and memorable three months for our dealership. New business, large volumes of new orders taken and delivered, and our staff and families have also had a few interesting months.

• Nathan Kirsten’s (service advisor) netball team called the ‘Newbies’ won their mixed team competition by a small margin of three points. Nathan personally scored 20 of the 30 winning goals!

• Rodney Bell (parts sales) and his wife Karen fi nally got to move into their new home after waiting months for the build to fi nish!

• Joe McGimpsey (service foreman) wife Miricia and daughter Macey spent a whole month holidaying in New Zealand.

• Our dealership fi nished 3rd in the VGA Ultimate Race in the medium size dealership category.

NEW STAFFA long and extensive search is fi nally over, and I am pleased to announce Matthew (Matt) Kelly has joined us to take up the role of service manager. Matt comes to us with a wealth of skills gained throughout his career and I welcome him to the team. A staff BBQ took place to welcome our new service manager. We found out that he

with the recently published Gippsland Freight Infrastructure Master Plan, hopefully providing a blueprint for improved transport productivity and residents’ amenity. CMV Truck & Bus at Traralgon is not on a major linehaul route and so looks to such Government initiatives for the improvement of conditions for our local industry and customers.

OUR TRARALGON BRANCHConsistent deliveries of new vehicles across small as well as large fl eet owners and individual truck operators are helping maintain good branch activity levels. Our Service Department is reliably busy with bookings and “blow ins” and our Parts Department benefi ts from both these contributors. Our prognosis is for more of the same.

VICTORIAN BUSHFIRESIt is almost exactly fi ve years to the day from when Victoria was beset by bushfi res in the period we now call Black Saturday. As is known by all Australians, these fi res can be devastating, especially when they occur in the heat of summer. At CMV Gippsland our dealership at Traralgon is not exposed to a direct threat if these unfortunate events occur but our staff and clients sometimes are, as they live in, or operate from more outlying areas. In 2009 one of our staff members lost equipment as their shed burnt. Thankfully no one was hurt. Also in 2009, rain came at a helpful time but the air was full of soot due to the savagery of the fi res and the winds on that day. Consequently our dealership and stock were both covered in black sludge comprising soot, half burnt sticks and leaves. A big clean-up was quickly needed.

Hopefully we will not see the same level of destruction but the fi res came quite close to our neighbouring town, Morwell, causing closures of the Princes Highway. Some committed staff had to divert to the north to fi nd open routes to work. Recently, there was a well-publicised and diffi cult to combat fi re in an open cut mine at Morwell. This caused an unpleasant smog covering much of the Morwell locale. Once again our stock needed detailing and our hard stand needed a thorough vacuuming/scrub once the fi re was under control.

We thank all staff for their efforts and send our best wishes to all affected communities.

THE EASTERN VICTORIA ECONOMYEastern Victoria is comprised of several local government areas with a healthy diversity of economic activity. These include mining, agriculture & forestry, construction, education & training, utilities and health services. All these are expected to continue their important contributions to the stability and development of the zone

A SPECIAL DELIVERYOver the history of Mack Trucks in Australia, Gambier Earth Movers have been purchasing Mack Trucks for their business for nearly 50 years. The founder of the business, Ian Sutherland, had a passion for Mack and always believed in the product. Unfortunately Ian passed away suddenly last year and sadly never got to take delivery of the last truck he had ordered. As a mark of respect, Ian’s wife Janis and son Glen fl ew to Adelaide to take delivery of the last unit and personally drive this special one back to Mount Gambier. It was a lovely day and all went well. Rumour has it that Janis actually drove the truck and dog back to the family farm and parked it close to Ian’s fi rst Mack, a B-61. Best wishes to all of the Sutherland family from South Central Trucks, the CMV Group and Mack Trucks.

UD TRUCKS JAPANESE PRODUCT RELEASEIt has been a busy year in product development for the Volvo Group, and as a result South Central Trucks UD had the opportunity to host a number of customers on a trip to Japan to be part of the new UD Quester release and tour the UD Truck factory. It was a fantastic trip with customers getting the opportunity to test drive the new UD product, visit the Tokyo Motor Show, ride the legendary bullet train and take in the fantastic sights of Japan. We were fortunate to travel with Bradley Carraill & Alicia Critchley from Garden Grove Haulage, Greg & Marissa Cunningham from Shredlogix, Keith Finch & Sandy Quinn from Rapid Haulage and Wayne Musster & David Cushion from Kings Transport. It was a great group of people to be travelling with and I know that Irene and I and Paul & Carly Spalding have built some lasting relationships. Big thanks to UD Trucks Australia and the CMV Group for the opportunity.

30 YEARS WITH THE BULLDOG!Well they say time fl ies, no doubt this is what South Central Trucks Mack & UD Service Manager, Robert Grose must be thinking. As of January this year, Robert completed 30 years of continuous service working with the Mack product in South Australia. Robert started with Mack Trucks Australia on the 9th January 1984 as an apprentice diesel technician, developing a passion for the product, people and customers associated with Mack. I am fortunate to have known Robert all of this time, and must admit he showed promise from day one (even though there were a couple of challenging times!). Robert worked his way through the ranks covering every position in the service area until his current position. Big congratulations to a well-known and respected employee from his staff, peers and customers.

SOUTH CENTRAL TRUCKS - VOLVO

SWEDEN TRIPAfter the successful release of the new FH last year, Volvo quickly moved to release the new FM, FMX and FE. We travelled to Sweden in February to take a close look at the new vehicles. Customers from around Australia were also invited, with South Central Trucks Volvo taking a team of eight. We travelled to the home of Volvo in Gothenburg. There we visited a number of Volvo factories where the trucks are manufactured and test driven. We were able to test drive all the latest models, including the new FM, FMX and FE, fully loaded.

Not only did we get to drive the new trucks, but we were able to test the new Volvo dynamic steering, where at low speeds you can drive the vehicle with your little fi nger. It’s that easy! An electronically controlled electric motor attached to the steering shaft is the big new technological innovation in Volvo dynamic steering. The electric motor, which works together with the truck's hydraulic power steering, has a maximum of 25 Nm of torque and is regulated thousands of times per second by the electronic control unit. We are excited to announce that it will be available in Australia later this year.

The Volvo team then travelled to our engine plant in Skovde. The engines are made from the ground up, with molten iron being poured into moulds to form components and robots putting the engine together in a systematic way, each engine identical to the last.

Our last stop was Stockholm. Here we visited City Hall where the Nobel Prize is awarded each year. The Nobel Prize is widely regarded as the most prestigious award available in the fi elds of literature, medicine, physics, chemistry, peace, and economics. And there we were having dinner in the same venue, the hall to ourselves, it was quite overwhelming!

FUSO SALES DEPARTMENTThe 2014 market has started slowly for FUSO with the building industry being subdued and our traditional ‘tradie’ market still being affected. We are starting to see signs that the market is beginning to improve, and we are hopeful that the market will lift as we get further into 2014.

We now have a very effective team of FUSO salesmen with Kris Hunter re-joining Hallam Truck Centre alongside Terry Broadway. Kris was originally with us as our used truck manager and is doing a great job in his new role learning the product, introducing himself to our current customer base & getting out meeting new customers.

At the recent FUSO dealer meeting we were introduced to a number of new products and innovative sales programs including the new range of FUSO city & school buses based on

HALLAM TRUCK CENTRE

GENERAL MANAGER’S COMMENTSWe are now well into 2014 and have seen a relatively sluggish market so far this year. There are signs that the market is beginning to lift with improving confi dence in retail sales and non-mining building and construction activity. The mining boom itself has moved more from the construction to production phase, benefi ting the Australian economy with increasing exports boosted by a lower Australian dollar. Overall there are signs that the economy will improve as we progress through 2014 and into 2015.

We will see some exciting new opportunities arise this year with new product releases from our manufacturers. Most signifi cantly Kenworth will launch the 13 litre PACCAR MX engine into their T409 range. The MX has been well proven in the DAF product in Australia and will provide us with a very strong competitive advantage in the 13 litre 460 – 510 horsepower market. In addition, Kenworth will also launch a new cab range for their conventional trucks with an exciting new and modern interior that will be well received by drivers and operators.

With these exciting new products, the very proactive support of our suppliers Kenworth, DAF, FUSO, Cummins and now WABCO combined, and an improving market place, everyone at the Hallam & Bayswater Truck Centres look forward to a great result in 2014.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers for their continuing support of the Hallam and Bayswater Truck Centres and wish them all a successful 2014.

Russell DaveyGeneral Manager

SERVICE DEPARTMENTCongratulations to Mark O’Dwyer for reaching the fi nal round of the Kenworth Technician of the Year 2014. This is the fi rst time Victoria has been represented for a number of years in this competition which demonstrates the high standard required to reach the fi nals. Mark competed in the fi nals held on March 13th and 14th and against tough competition came runner up, receiving a $1,000 gift voucher for his great effort. Congratulations Mark.

PACCAR and FUSO will be running technician competitions during 2014 and we encourage all staff to use this as a learning tool and to emulate Marks success.

Hallam Truck Centre has now signed the agreement to become a WABCO service partner. We are 1 of 3 in Melbourne and are very excited by this opportunity. WABCO

leads the world in breakthrough driver assistance and control systems that improve the safety of trucks, buses and trailers. WABCO are suppliers to many of the worlds OEM’s and with upcoming changes in trailer braking systems, this is a product that will allow us to provide a total service to our current and potential client base.

PARTS DEPARTMENTWe are now well into 2014 with some of our staff being presented with some amazing experiences by our manufacturers. Sales Manager Ben Richards travelled to Japan with FUSO where he met the board of directors and the President Albert Kirchmann. They were given a tour of the FUSO Kawasaki production plant where they build more than 320 trucks per day, and employ 3200 staff. After the FUSO plant was a trip to the Tokyo Motor Show which showcases the latest in Japanese truck and car technology. This was followed by a bullet train ride at 300 kilometres per hour to Hiroshima to take in the sights and history of the area, with a visit to the A dome and peace memorial. Words cannot describe the feelings experienced when touring through these historical sites. The last day of the tour included a visit to the Mitsubishi ship yards where they built the warships and submarines in World War II.

In staff news, we welcome Ryan Byrne to our busy dispatch department. Matt Williams, our parts trainee has moved to the back counter where he will be spending the fi rst month working in the workshop, helping our mechanics and getting fi rsthand experience before coming back to parts to continue his training. Matt is also charged with the responsibility of running our new eBay site, where we have already made our fi rst sales, allowing us to reach a whole new market of customers for parts specials and products. Our two sales representatives, Geoff DeLongville and Scott Millward won Paccar Top Gun awards and went to Adelaide for the high horsepower Clipsal V8 weekend.

Wayne RadfordParts Manager

BAYSWATER TRUCK CENTREWe are well and truly into 2014 and the year is really gaining some momentum. It is also over 12 months since we moved into our new facility which is attracting many new truck, service and parts customers with its modern retail appearance and excellent facilities.

We have just put together a capped price service contract with one of our good FUSO customers, Greenland Fruit & Vegetables. This type of service contract is growing in popularity with trucks owners seeking to maintain their trucks in top condition with a known cost. We have also been working with other fl eets within our region, increasing volume through our workshop.

The logging contractors in our territory have been feeling the pressure with reduced volumes and the continual battle to work with contracts that do not always appear commercially viable. The Vic Forest tender process has been a real strain on numerous contractors and as a result has seen some contractors leave the industry.

With that said, we are still seeing regular work from the contractors that are in the industry to stay. They see the importance of good maintenance practices to ensure reliability and safety within their industry and Bayswater Truck Centre is certainly able to offer these services.

Our Parts Department has welcomed a new staff member, Christine Storer. Christine comes to us with many years’ experience in the parts industry and has bought a very bright and enthusiastic personality to our business. Her most recent role was with the local Bursons store and we have received positive feedback from her previous clients who are now choosing to shop at Bayswater Truck Centre for their parts.

the very reliable Fighter drive line. Including the market leading Rosa models the FUSO bus range now has seating capacities from 22 to 50 seats, and are very competitively priced as well. We are very excited about these new products and the opportunities they create for us.

With our talented sales team and the support of FUSO we are very much looking forward to a great year in 2014.

Brett MunroFUSO Sales Manager

PACCAR SALES DEPARTMENTAll of us in the Paccar sales team will remember 2013 as a very challenging year with continued low market activity. This aside, we ended the year reasonably well. We are currently ahead of our delivery quota for both Kenworth and DAF for the fi rst six months of the fi nancial year, and a strong December and January for orders will maintain this momentum into the second half.

At the PACCAR dealer conference held in February, Hallam was presented with two DAF awards for 2013 quota and market share achievement. These were great rewards for a job well done by not only Jordan Marruso, but everyone in the PACCAR sales group who stepped up during the year.

In recognition of Kenworth's 90th anniversary, PACCAR Australia released a limited edition T909 “Directors Series”. Our uptake on this was strong with all sales being ordered with the Cummins ISXe5 engine. Since its release the ISXe5 continues to impress. The engine meets Euro 5 emission compliance through selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to reduce emission levels. We look forward to this engine gaining presence in the market as its reputation for performance and reliability grows.

On 18th January we sponsored and attended the Tooradin Truck Show and Tractor Pull which was a fantastic day. It was great to see our tent full of our customers enjoying a sausage and drink while socialising and enjoying the day’s events.

In January this year Andrew Besnard marked 9 years with Hallam Truck Centre. Well done Andrew on your continued dedication to the CMV Group, Hallam Truck Centre and the Kenworth brand.

DAFThis year we have worked very hard on the promotion of DAF within the South Australian marketplace. Justin Faull, who has worked for us for around 13 years, has been promoted to DAF sales manager. The appointment of a dedicated DAF sales manager refl ects the importance that DAF has to our business. Congratulations to Justin.

Last year in Europe, DAF was the 2nd highest selling truck, ranking behind Mercedes, but in front of Volvo. In Australia DAF does not have such strong market penetration, despite the great product and a high acceptance in Europe. This year we have increased our vehicle display stock, have a number of skilled DAF technicians in our workshop to support the product, and now with Justin’s appointment, this should be a recipe for future success.

Both our workshop, and in particular our spare parts business has also been busy. Notably our Burton and Riverland parts outlets have done very well so far this year.

After fi ve years, we decided not to continue with the BCI Bus franchise. BCI have subsequently opened an offi ce in Adelaide, where our ex long term employee Bruce Moseley will be working as South Australian manager. We wish Bruce and BCI the very best in this new venture. Going forward CMV Truck Sales will be focused on our core DAF and Kenworth brands.

KENWORTHThis year is Kenworth's 90th Anniversary. Kenworth trucks were established by Frederick Kent and Edgar Worthington in 1914, who used parts of their names to create the now famous Kenworth brand. Since then Kenworth Trucks have become synonymous with quality and durability within the road transport industry in both the US and Australia.

To celebrate this milestone, Kenworth Australia released a limited edition T909 model, the "Director's Series". These trucks have many unique features that set them well apart from the standard T909 model. There was strong demand for these one of a kind trucks.

One of our valued customers, Bradley Carraill of Garden Grove, ordered two of the Director's Series trucks. They were done up in Garden Grove's bold fl eet livery and have been both coupled behind a set of new road train tippers. They are real "head turners" as you can see from this photo of one of them.

We are now well into 2014 and since the last edition of Outlook there has been plenty of activity at CMV Truck Sales.

Our 2014 truck order intake has been above average and constant. Jarrod and his team have secured a number of multiple truck deals from some large fl eet customers and these will be delivered in the coming months. Justin at DAF has also been busy and by May will have sold more DAFs than we did in the whole of 2013!

PARTSEarlier this year Kenworth AllRig Parts ran the “Win Your Way to the USA” competition. First prize was an 11-night holiday to Los Angeles, Hawaii and Disneyland, plus $5,000 spending money. To enter you needed to buy at least $300 of parts from any Kenworth dealer. The winner was randomly picked from a competitive fi eld of over 10,000 entries.

Peter Gilbert, of Gilbert’s Transport Services at Cavan was the winner, but he generously gave the prize to one of his valued employees, Darren Brook.

"It’s just an unbelievable prize," Darren told us. "The family are so excited about taking the trip; we really can’t thank AllRig and Peter Gilbert enough. To get an experience like this just for ordering the parts we needed is simply brilliant!"

SERVICE2014 has seen a restructure in the workshop with some roles being modifi ed and a change in supervision for the service pits and the main workshop. I feel strongly that these changes make the most of the diverse strengths of the supervisors in the workshop and better match the person to the role. This is a big change for us, but I feel it was well received and this will also give us the consistency that any workshop needs. The new employees mentioned in the previous edition of Outlook have assimilated well into their roles and are making a difference.

Talking about new recruits, we have had fi ve new apprentices join us in February. Again our Training Manager, Troy Seyfang, through his vigorous and well thought out recruitment process has produced an excellent group of enthusiastic and talented apprentices. Tim Holla, Jeremy Petho, Tristan Bell, Nathan Capes and George Paxton joined us at the beginning of February. Welcome to the CMV family gents. I look forward to being a part of your growth and watching you develop into highly skilled Kenworth and DAF technicians.

Congratulations also go out to Martin McKeown and Kat on the birth of their son Lochlan, born on the 4th February 2014.

Last year CMI Hino had a small taste of rallying when Hino Australia sponsored the world number one ranked female rally driver Molly Taylor, on her short visit home for the 2013 Rally SA.

We were lucky to be invited out to Mount Crawford and one of our customers Colin Miller of Rosmech had an opportunity to go for a hot lap through the forest with Molly.

Molly said that Colin was an excellent co-driver but couldn’t understand all of his directions through the screaming!

Recently CMI Hino fl eet consultant, Andrew Harris, delivered a new truck to loyal CMI Hino customer Fassina SA Liquor Merchants. Andrew worked with owner and patriarch of the business, Mr Joe Fassina to build a replacement for an old Hino tray top truck that has served the business reliably for over twenty-fi ve years.

The new truck will service all of the seven branches of this famous South Australian family owned and independent business and we are confi dent Fassina’s will get another quarter of a century out of this truck as well.

CMI Hino partnered with the Adelaide Football Club to come up with a transport solution for the AFL club with their move to the new Adelaide Oval.

Nathan Chatfi eld worked with Head Trainer Vinnie Del Bono to specify a suitable truck that can shift the mountain of equipment required when the team plays both here in Adelaide and their numerous trips to the airport for interstate games.

All of the equipment can now be moved in roll-on boxes via a purpose built body and tailgate loader saving multiple trips and many hours.

CMI HINO ADELAIDE

Late last year I had the opportunity to host two of CMI Hino Adelaide’s long standing fl eet customers on a study tour and visit to Hino Headquarters, Japan.

Mr Andrew Gianarakis of SA Power and Mr Brett Laing of Rosmech were able to visit two of Hino Motors Limited’s factories at Hamura and Hino City, just outside Tokyo to experience fi rst-hand the quality and engineering excellence of Japan’s number one truck manufacturer.

The tour allowed some of Hino’s largest fl eet customers to meet with senior HML executives to discuss future direction of Hino models for the Australian market and also included a visit to the Tokyo International Motor Show.

It wasn’t all work though and our customers enjoyed some of Japan’s cultural and culinary delights, including a visit to Mount Fuji, many excellent traditional restaurants and a trip on a bullet train.

TRUCK LOAD OF STUFF RETURNS!Many Melbourne residents will know the successful Gold FM “Truck Load of Stuff” competition run for a number of years on the very popular 104.3 Gold FM radio station. CMI Hino has a long standing relationship with Gold FM and is very happy to see the return of this great competition.

As part of the promotion, one of our Hino 300 series demonstrators has been dressed up in Gold FM livery and hits the streets every morning driven by our own Ray Candy to meet up with Gold listeners, hand out prizes and do live crosses direct to air on Gold FM. The truck is also gradually fi lled with great prizes to be won by a few lucky Gold FM listeners.

MOVEMBERThere was a stark increase in facial hair late last year, as a number of staff members participated in Movember to raise money for mens health. A great cause and a great excuse to go back to the days of the big cheesy moustache, even if just for a short time!

TONY SAKR FUNDRAISERTony Sakr, one of our senior parts interpreters at CMI Hino Laverton, participated in a 10km walk to raise awareness for Juvenile Diabetes Type 1. An annual event for Tony, he completed the walk in a personal best of 1.54 hours, a big improvement on his previous attempt of 2.5 hours.

Tony walked with members from his Maronite Catholic Church group in Thornbury which is conducted and led by their Monsignor Joe Takchi, who is a great enthusiast for this charity.

Tony had great support from many employees at the Laverton Volvo/Hino dealership and the CMV Group Staff Charitable Foundation who helped him raise a total of $2,128.00. Tony was most appreciative of the encouragement and donations he received, and wishes to thank everyone for their wonderful support!

NEW STAFF MEMBERSThere has been a couple of exciting staff changes recently, with two existing staff members moving into new roles. James Lang has moved from his role as a sales coordinator to realise a long held ambition to become a salesman, joining our sales team and working closely under the guidance of Sales Manager, Leo Morabito.

Bree Wasson, formally in an administration role in our service department has made the move to our reception desk taking over the role of receptionist. Congratulations to both Bree and James and we wish them well in their new roles.

CMI TOYOTA SPONSORS SOUTH AUSSIE CYCLIST ROHAN DENNISCMI Toyota are proud to sponsor rising cyclist star, Rohan Dennis. This young South Aussie has had huge success in recent times, fi nishing fi rst in the Tour of Alberta, being selected for the Tour de France, and then being selected to represent Australia in the Elite Mens team at the World Championships.

Rohan who was recently named South Australian Sports Star of the Year was also a home crowd favourite at the 2014 Tour Down Under.

“nipper boards” for the Somerton Surf Life Saving Club. The Somerton SLSC recently celebrated their 1,000 member milestone and of this member base have 350 “nippers”, who take to the beach to learn valuable surf lifesaving skills.

The Somerton SLSC was created back in 1960 and to reach 1,000 members is a fantastic milestone. The chance to sponsor the purchase of the nipper boards and support such a great club was impossible to refuse and we hope all the “nippers”

Our new car sales department led by Greg Hochuli retains a strong number one in our market area and we remain the highest volume Toyota dealer in South Australia and second largest nationally. This result is a credit to all of our staff and on behalf of everyone at CMI Toyota I would like to thank every customer that chose us for their new Toyota vehicle purchase in 2013.

Both our West Terrace service department and CMI Eastside service centre continue to grow. Our Toyota trained technicians pride themselves on their skill, professionalism and workmanship to ensure our customers’ vehicles are serviced and maintained to Toyota’s exacting standards and that we deliver true value for money. Graham Davies and the team in our parts department continue to lead the way in parts in the South Australian market place. 2014 is already shaping up as an exciting year for our staff and customers! Toyota was again the number one vehicle manufacturer in Australia last year and remains in top spot so far this year. We have several exciting new models being launched this year and by the time you read this, the all new Corolla Sedan and Kluger models will be available for sale. I have seen and driven both of these vehicles and I have no doubt they will be in high demand. Both new models have sleek new styling, the latest technology from Toyota Motor Corporation and have been priced very competitively.

5 STAR ANCAP FOR 4X4 HILUX DUAL CABToyota Hilux notched up its ninth straight year as Australia's best-selling four-wheel drive vehicle. The tough workhorse led the way in 2013 with customers buying 29,344 Hilux 4WD variants. This represents approximately 7,500 more unit sales than its nearest rival.

January 2014 saw the introduction of a 5 star ANCAP accreditation for the Hilux 4x4 dual cab variants and also a number of additional specifi cation enhancements. An all-new optional 5-speed automatic transmission has been introduced across the turbo diesel range, along with factory fi t display audio on all variants plus Toyota Link Connected Mobility within both the SR and SR5 grades. The SR models also adopt vehicle stability control and traction control plus an upgraded multi-information display and optitron combimeter. A reverse camera is now standard equipment in the SR5 grade along with the option to include leather accented seats with 6 way power adjustment.

With additional equipment, enhanced specifi cation and all new levels of safety you can expect the Hilux to top the sales charts again in 2014. We urge you to book a test drive today and experience it for yourself.

We also took advantage of the fi ne weather to fi lm a short ad, promoting our dealership which will soon go to air in our local Wallis cinema. A special thanks to Daniel Hill, Steve Quinn, Brook West, Lauren McKay, Kyra Harvey and Taj Merrill who participated in the fi lming. You all did a great job and are now stars on the big screen!

The last few months have also seen some expanding families, and I would like to congratulate Graham and Mel Brook who welcomed twin girls, Taylor weighing 5lb 14oz and Cloe, weighing 6lb 5oz. Daniel and Hayley Garner also welcomed a third son, Kai Taylor, weighing in at 10lb 9oz . It looks like both families are set for busy times ahead.

Congratulations to Daniel Hopkins and Steve Quinn on the completion of their certifi cate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology. Both Daniel and Steve were offi cially presented their certifi cates at the 2014 apprentice graduation awards evening held at CMI Toyota West Terrace during February.

While Australia is known as the lucky country,I like to think of Southside as the lucky dealership as, for the second consecutive year, one of our happy customers won $10,000 during our annual end of year sales event.

Mrs Sylvia Thomas from Noarlunga Downs purchased a brand new Suzuki Swift during our four day sale event, and went into the draw to win the $10,000 cash prize. Sylvia is delighted with her Suzuki Swift purchase, however according to her sales consultant Shane, it was the phone call to inform her of her cash prize winnings that had her ecstatic! Shane indicated that Sylvia probably would have alarmed the neighbours by her reaction on the phone, it was so loud. Sylvia certainly left no one in any doubt of her happiness over her win!

Recently, we’ve had some new staff join the team here at CMI Toyota Christies Beach and I would like to welcome:

• Luke Williams – apprentice technician• Steve Howard – new vehicle sales• Rheanan Jagminas – service receptionist• Andy McDougall – stock controller• Emma Gannon – aftercare consultant• Lee Bennett – used vehicle sales• Kym Bligh – business manager

SOUTHSIDE SUZUKI2014 promises to be another successful year for Southside Suzuki. We continued to grow, selling record numbers for the calendar year, truly living up to our title of ‘South Australia’s fastest growing Suzuki dealership’.

I would like to thank our customers for their continued support of the Suzuki brand. It is your loyalty that has helped us achieve some outstanding accolades, including being awarded Suzuki’s number one metro dealer in Australia for customer service and satisfaction.

Daniel Hopkins and Steve Quinn with Fast Track Apprentice Training Manager, Geoff Way

It was a scorching summer down here at Christies Beach with the temperatures bringing many people down south to enjoy our fantastic coast. It is without a doubt that the area seems to come alive during this time of year with both tourists and locals getting out and about. The season also provides a lot of activity for our dealership. We get involved in local activities such as golf days, surf lifesaving championships, and the popular concert series, A Day On The Green, just to mention a few.

The southern suburbs of Adelaide is the best performing metro area for Suzuki in Australia, with the region more than doubling the national market share and we are very grateful for the support.

Sales consultants Wayne Wilson and Shane Bassham both achieved Sales Excellence Awards for sales performance and customer service.

We continue to thrive with the business and the challenges that this year will no doubt throw at us. We’re happy to report the new S-CROSS has arrived at the dealership. This new edition to the range fi ts the bill for anyone looking to enter the fast growing ‘crossover’ segment of the market. With sensational fuel economy, this car will turn heads and we encourage you to pop in and take a test drive. You won’t be disappointed!

On the 26th of February we gathered all our staff in the showroom to celebrate the CMV Group’s 80th birthday. We were given strict instructions - enjoy the cupcakes, wear your commemorative pin but wait until you get home to drink the wine! As you can see, all the staff were paying close attention! The celebration was completed with a toast to the next 80 years and we’re all looking forward to the 100 year birthday party!

The annual Pink Lady Day at the West Lakes Bowling Club this year was a blast. Unfortunately our new vehicle sales manager, Steve Weir couldn’t be convinced to wear a pink wig. We don’t know why.

Take note of our sharp looking salesmen, Jamie Barker and Matt Cairns who were seen standing guard in front of our vehicle display at the Steve Waugh Foundation cricket day. The day was organised by the City of Charles Sturt and held at the nearby St Clair reserve. The boys were waiting to catch any stray balls that were hit in their direction. Luckily they didn’t need to worry about any stray balls, and spent the time handing out plenty of info on the great vehicles we have on offer.

CMI PORTSIDE

By reading this you must think that all we do here at Portside is have functions or attend events. It’s not true, I promise! The calendar year just past has been fantastic once again for Portside and we’ve set many new benchmarks across various departments.

There are many people behind the scenes who contribute greatly to our business. To our detailers, drivers and administration staff, I hope you realise how much we appreciate your great work. To all the guys and girls in parts, sales and service, it was once again a job well done in 2013 and I can’t wait for 2014 to be even bigger and better.

ADELAIDE FRINGE EVENT 2014 - PAPILLONIt has become quite the tradition for Lexus of Adelaide to host clients at the Adelaide Fringe. This year guests enjoyed pre-show hospitality in the exclusive Fringe Club; an entertainment hub built exclusively for artists and Fringe season pass holders. As the sun slowly set on a gorgeous Adelaide evening, clients were entertained by a number of artists performing within the Fringe Club whilst enjoying the fi ne food and wines on offer. Later guests were escorted to the Peacock Marquee where they enjoyed one of this season's top selling shows, Papillon.

WELCOME BACK JBJames Bonner has re-joined the Lexus of Adelaide sales team after a brief sabbatical and has settled back in, adding another dimension to the dealership. James has always had a strong customer following and he makes all his clients feel welcome, ensuring their vehicle purchase is a memorable and pleasant experience. Welcome back, James!

FOOD, FASHION AND….CARSLexus of Adelaide were delighted to host two tables at the annual Clipsal 500, Advertiser Sunday Mail Foundation Luncheon. Hosted by ASMF Patron, Angela Condous and her team, the event of which Lexus of Adelaide is a sponsor was very well organised and provided a fabulous opportunity for us to catch up with some of our Lexus owners.

This year’s event was attended by more than 1,000 people who enjoyed the fi ne food and hospitality within the trackside marquee. The lunch included a fashion and jewellery parade, along with performances by X-factor winner Dami Im, Nathaniel Willemse, Rob Mills, and Adelaide's very own Hans. Elvis tribute artist, Marc Anthony bumped and grinded his way through a sweaty routine which saw a lot of well-known faces joining his act onstage! I had to keep a close eye on my event co-hosts, Paula Smiech and Elyse Szajer who were getting right into the swing of things!

Locally, Jeep are continuing to sponsor the Richmond Football Club (AFL) and the St George Dragons (NRL ) for the 2014 seasons, as well as sporting events including the Portsea Polo in Melbourne and the Magic Millions Horse Sales held in the Gold Coast. Many more events will be announced this year, so keep an eye out for the Jeep logo!

Since the last issue of Outlook, we have welcomed a new team member. Jess Figueroa joins us as our new account clerk after spending time up in Queensland and returning home to South Australia. We wish Jess all the very best and welcome her on board.

BRAND NEW KL CHEROKEE - ARRIVING SOON! We expect to see the very fi rst of our brand new Jeep KL Cherokee Wagons arrive to our dealership around June this year. It has been a long time coming as we sold the very last of the previous model KK Cherokee back in January 2013.

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee has a unique and unusual shape to its front, giving it a very distinctive and visual presence on the road. The Cherokee will be offered to us in 4 different models: Cherokee Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk. Each model in this Jeep range will come standard with a brand new 9 speed automatic transmission. Engines will include a 2.4 litre in the sport model, with a 3.2 V6 pentastar available in the Cherokee Longitude, Limited and the Trailhawk. A 2.0 turbo diesel will be offered only as an option in the Cherokee Limited.

Keep an eye out for its arrival shortly.

GREAT WALL In April we made the tough decision to relinquish our Great Wall franchise effective July. After being one of the founding dealers in Australia, and enjoying some early success, recent competitive pressures have impacted the business signifi cantly. The realisation that we had been unable to create a sustainable and viable business for our company and our customers was very disappointing. All staff associated with Great Wall will be realigned to give us more focus on our Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge brands and to build our Used Car operation.

We proudly supported yet another wonderful South Australian event, the World Tennis Challenge, played at Memorial Drive in January. International legends, Martina Navratilova, Martina Hingis and Tracy Austin as well as Pat Cash, Henri Leconte and Yannick Noah played alongside some talented rising stars in what was an entertaining and at times, highly competitive three days of tennis. Our guests, seated directly alongside the court, could not have been closer to the action.

To the embarrassment of the dealership, the Mercedes-Benz Adelaide staff team competing in the Corporate Challenge, failed to deliver on their over enthusiastic promise of dominating the competition, exiting in the fi rst round…they looked the part though!

There is a dealership connection to the Barossa Valley television advertising campaign that attracted national media attention and received international industry accolades. Sales Consultant and experienced musician Paul Sharman is the proud father of Brooklyn, the delightful and unsuspecting young student who was approached at random to appear in the commercial. FARWELL PETERAfter representing Mercedes-Benz for 42 years, Peter Kay retired last year. Peter is widely known and highly regarded in the motor industry and became the face of Mercedes-Benz in Adelaide. Peter’s association with the brand will not cease with his retirement as he has just taken delivery of his brand new CLS 63 AMG and continues to enjoy time behind the wheel of his classic collection. The dealership is pleased to see Peter and his faithful companion Archie, still making regular visits to the showroom. We thank Peter for his wonderful contribution to the success and growth of Mercedes-Benz in South Australia and we wish him a long and happy retirement with his family.

The stars aligning this season enabling the collective Farms business to produce a record year wasn't through luck. Good planning and hard work combined with the production of high quality produce which gives the best possible return played the part in this seasons results.

Rightfully so you will read that our Managers were very proud of the CMV employees who do the hard yards often under diffi cult condition to complete a successful season and record profi t.

WINE GRAPE RESTRUCTURING.The continued depressed state of the Australian wine industry continues with seemingly no end in sight. Our strategy set some years ago to remove vines as they came out of contract and replant with either almonds or pistachios continues and will gather pace. Growing fruit that wineries don't want or can't pay sustainable prices is not smart. Over the past 4 years CMV Farms have removed in excess of 100 hectares with a further 50 hectares destined to be removed in the next few months. This is part of the painful restructuring that needs to happen in the Australian wine industry as our cost of production makes us uncompetitive on the world market, in particular from wine produced from grapes grown in the warm climate inland region of Australia. Fortunately Langhorne Creek is not in the same category as our other vineyards and continues to be profi table.

Our customers Pernod Ricard Wines (Orlando, Jacobs Creek, Wyndham Estate), Treasury (Penfolds, Lindemans, Wolf Blass) and Peter Lehman Wines have all been loyal, honest and fair in dealing with us in a time that is diffi cult for all involved in this industry. Their ongoing support is appreciated.

ALMOND AND PISTACHIO PRODUCTION.Reports from Lindsay Point and Robinvale pleasingly advise of continued strong yields which makes the most of very strong prices which add signifi cantly to the bottom line. As if tasting great wasn't enough these nuts are clinically proven to be "natures health pills" and I remain optimistic for the future of these enterprises. A great source of nutrition and not much more expensive than the price of Snakes (confectionary).

NUT PRODUCERS OF AUSTRALIA AND RETURN HARVEST EMPLOYEES.Grant Birrell CEO of Nut Producers of Australia reports the importance of our harvest staff who return to help at the Robinvale factory year after year. Likewise at Lindsay Point we have been indeed fortunate to have Barry return for his 9th consecutive almond harvest season.

The installation of a packing machine and now a pasteuriser in the Riverland Almond factory provides this business with new value adding opportunities.

So another harvest season passes and the task of processing and marketing continues.

Many thanks to all the Farms employees who have contributed in yet again making this last harvest season the success it is.

NUT PRODUCERS AUSTRALIA

This year, couples Ian & Dallas and Paul & Ell originally from New Zealand, have returned to APPC for their third pistachio season. Both couples have been on the road for 6 years, often meeting up in the same places around the country. They have worked with olives in Robinvale, winegrapes in the Hunter Valley and strawberries on the Sunshine Coast and are heading to WA next to work with avocados and citrus.

John & Margaret are new to APPC this season, hail from WA and have been on the road for about 20 months. John previously worked in a supervisor role in the aluminium industry and Margaret worked as an executive assistant in the oil & gas industry. Since adopting the nomad life, they have worked in the Flinders Ranges, grains in Pinnaroo, Canola in Mount Gambier and Cotton in Carroll NSW.

The itinerant couples enjoy the simple lifestyle, variety of work, new experiences, meeting people and visiting places. Another bonus is reduction in housework duties!

NEW PERMANENT STAFFCongratulations to Nikita Whitton, Emmanual Felipe and Arthorn Ugulis who have taken on more responsibilities at APPC, becoming permanent employees. They will provide ongoing important experience to each pistachio hulling and drying season.

CHANGES AT LOXTONRiverland Almonds (RA) is undergoing signifi cant change. A retail bagging line has been installed at the Loxton almond facility to produce consumer ready retail packs. Alan Atkinson and Evegeniy Petukhov were instrumental to getting this line up and running and have become expert operators already. Alan has been with RA for 12 years and whilst his role is electronic sorting supervisor, he has shown his versatility in also taking on this

new challenge. Alan was recently married and is mad keen on go-carting in his spare time.

Evegeniy or Ev for short, emigrated from Russia in 2006. Ev has been employed at RA for about 12 months and provides RA with a range of skills including a Certifi cate 3 in Engineering. Not surprisingly, Ev is keen on cars and motor bikes but also plays guitar.

The big change at Loxton is the addition of a pasteuriser for treating almonds as a food safety step required by our major customers. Mick Schulz has been trained to run the pasteuriser and is to be complemented on learning this complex process quickly. However, as Mick is a computer geek and loves on-line gaming, he fi ts the bill very well!

After recent redevelopments for both Lindsay Point and Murtho, both properties are back operating at near full capacity. This year’s almond crops are looking quite good with reasonable tonnages coming off so far. We are hopeful that the rain will hold off a while longer to keep as many almonds inshell as possible for better selling prices. New harvest machinery from America has arrived which allows greater effi ciency over the 1200 acres of almonds we have to harvest. This includes a new cab MagX harvester, 2 OMC shockwave bankout shuttles and an OMC conveyer. The team have adjusted well to the new machinery and in turn the new technology that comes with it.

STAFFOver the last few months we have seen some changes in staff and I would like to introduce two new staff members in Chris James and Grant Clark-Smith.

Chris spent his younger years growing up and working in Langhorne Creek before travelling and completing a carpentry apprenticeship in Bowral. He has now returned back to his home town with a wife Nerida and young children Lincoln, 4 and Saphira, 2. With the building trade slower in SA than the eastern states Chris found himself wanting to go back to where he grew up and luckily for us joined our team.

Grant has joined us with plenty of viticultural experience after ten years on an Adelaide Hills vineyard. The scale of our operation at Langhorne Creek was a bit of a shock to Grant in the fi rst few weeks however he has settled in well and

Welcome to the team Grant and Chris!

Another sweltering Summer day

Congratulations to the CMV Group on their 80th year. This is a magnifi cent achievement for any business situated anywhere in the world and to be part of it makes my team and I here at Langhorne Creek very proud. After perusing over the CMV 75th year book to refresh my memory on the Group’s fantastic history I realised what has been achieved in the last 5 years is another great story in its self. I am sure we will hear more about this as the birthday year progresses. Happy Birthday!

Summer 2013-2014 saw a series of heatwaves at Langhorne Creek and across most areas of South Australia, with record high temperatures in several locations. Overall it was the sixth warmest summer on record for South Australia and with the mercury at our Langhorne Creek property recording 13 days of 40 °C to 45 °C, it was once again a battle to ensure all the vines got plenty to drink when they needed it most. Some of these days would have recorded 55 °C plus directly on the vines without shade and with the heat rebounding from the soil below them. With plenty of early canopy the vines had ample leaf to protect the grapes from the direct sunlight that can stew or shrivel the grapes resulting in serious crop loss. Diligent watering strategies and irrigation programming from Eddie and some stressful days avoiding the heat in our spray programming and vine trimming from Tim and his team has paid off with great results. This summer also recorded a record rain event for some regions but luckily for the Langhorne Creek area the rain was comparatively lower than most areas to the north of us. accepted the enormity of our property. CMV FARMS

CMV FARMS - ROBINVALE

PISTACHIOSThe harvesting of the pistachio trees started on the 22nd February and fi nished in late March. The harvest ran very smoothly with all staff working extremely hard over this period both day and night.

So far it looks as if we could have a good “OFF CROP” this year, which will help the pistachio industry after having a good “ON CROP” last year. This has come with some luck but it also has a lot to do with the dedication of all the staff over the whole growing season, and we would like to thank them all for the effort they have put in. At Robinvale we will continue to remove wine grapes and plant pistachio trees, with our aim to produce trees we can harvest within fi ve years as opposed to the normal time of seven years. This will involve better watering strategies and also improving our fertiliser programs so we can get all the nutrients and water to the trees to produce better yields and better quality.

ROBINVALE VINEYARDSThe vineyards at Robinvale had a very diffi cult year, with the prices not being very favourable to the growers with the oversupply of wine grapes still being a big issue in this industry. The farms also endured a period of two weeks of temperatures over 40°C which put a lot of pressure on all staff and also the vineyards with some damage being seen. Harvest of the wine grapes was fi nished by late March with the majority of the harvest going to Treasury Wines Estate and Pernod Ricard Winemakers who will collectively take around 7,000 tons for the 2014 vintage.

FSTAFF NEWSAll our staff at Robinvale would like to wish a happy 80th Birthday to the CMV Group!

I would like to welcome and thank all of the new staff who over the harvest period did a great job in getting both crops of pistachio nuts and wine grapes harvested for the 2014 season.
