Top 5 Directors within the Horror

1) Alfred Hitchcock
Alfred Hitchcock was a British director who was born on the 13th August 1899 and died in California, united states on the 29th April 1980. He has known for directing many psychological thrillers, however he has directed many popular horrors.
Alfred Hitchcock Directed over 50 featured films and he was regarded as the greatest British film maker.
One of Hitchcock’s popular and successful films is called ‘Psycho’ which is a psychological horror. The movie ‘Psycho’ was the most profitable film of Hitchcock's career, which made about $15 million by the end of the first year.
What I will include in my opening sequence:
Hitchcock is known for presenting himself to the audience at the beginning of his films in order to allow the audience to keep focus on
his storyline. Therefore in my opening sequence, the editor will be the villain which
would allow our audience to feel closer to the characters as well as the story line.
2) George Romero
George Romero is a American-Canadian film director who was born on February 4, 1940. He is mainly known for directing gruesome horror films. Horror films directed by Romero include:
-Night of the Living Dead (1968)-Dawn of the Dead (1978)-Day of the Dead (1985)-Two evil eyes (1990)-Dawn of the Dead (2004)-Land of the Dead (2005)-Diary of the Dead (2007)-The Crazies (2010)
What I will include in my opening sequence:
George Romero’s horror films mainly feature zombies. His films often features radio or television news broadcasts playing in the background. They
also include many characters killing other characters and mainly female characters. Therefore
in my opening sequence, I want only female characters as this is typical of horror films.
3) John Carpenter
John Carpenter is an American film director who was born on January 16th 1948. Although John Carpenter has directed various films of different genres, the main films he has directed consist of horror and science fiction. Horror films directed by Carpenter include:
- The Thing (1982)-Halloween (1978)-The Ward (2010)-The Fog (1980)-Vampires (1998)-Prince of darkness (1987)-Village of the Damned (1995)-Christine (1983)-Someone's watching me (1978)
What I will include in my opening sequence:Although John Carpenter has directed many films with
different Genres, he is known for mainly directing horror films. He is also known as ‘The Master of Horror’.
Carpenter uses synthesizer-based soundtracks that he composes himself.
The words ‘John Carpenter’ appear after all of his films and titles. Although he usually has male-lead characters
in his movies, I will do this differently and include female characters throughout, specifically the main
character.
4) Dario Argento
Dario Argento is an Italian film director, producer and screenwriter. He is mainly famous for his work in the horror film genre. Dario Argento was born on September the 7th 1940. Horror films directed by Argento:
The Phantom of Opera (1998)-Do you like Hitchcock? (2005)-Jenifer (2005)-Trauma (1993)-The bird with the crystal plumage (1970)
What I will include in my opening sequence:Argento usually uses close-up eyes, frequently that of the killer. Similarly, I have used a lot of
close-up shots in my opening sequence of both the protagonist and the antagonist.
Additionally, Argento frequently shoots his film in Turin. I will use some of his trade marks and
film all of my opening sequence in London.
5) Wes Craven
Wes Craven was an American film director born on August 2nd 1939. He is known for many horror films. His most popular film is Scream and A nightmare on Elm street. The rest of the horror films he has directed include:
-Scream 4 (2011)-Scream (1996)- A nightmare on Elm street (1984)-The last house on the left (1972)-Scream 2 (1997)-Scream 3 (2000)-Cursed (2004)-Dead friend (1986)
What I will include in my opening sequence:Wes Craven is often known for his protagonists are often ordinary characters caught in extraordinary
and horrific circumstances. I will do the same in my opening sequence as I want my female protagonist to be ordinary, however due to things happening in
the past, she will be possessed. Similarly, in my opening sequence I will make sure
my protagonist is an ordinary character, who becomes possessed by a villain.
