L.O: LANDSCAPE CHARACTERISTICS
NEW YORK STATE has all three kinds of landscapes
• Mountains: high relief landforms with distorted bedrock structure.• Plateaus: high relief landforms with
horizontal bedrock structure.• Plains: flat landforms with low relief.
Plains are also called lowlands.
Plateaus are also called uplannds
Mountains are also called highlands.
Landscape are primarily caused by their underlying bedrock structure and elevation.
Hard bedrock resists weathering and forms mountains. Very soft bedrock weathers easily and
forms plains.
Uplifting and leveling forces also are responsible for landscapes
• If uplift prevails= mountains.• If leveling prevails= plains.
