New Prehistoric Creatures at the American Museum of Natural History in NYC

Presentation by Pedro J. Torres

Meet the prehistoric creatures touching down at the American Museum of Natural History:

• If you’re a dino nerd, you’ve probably heard about the AMNH’s newest tenant: a 122-foot-long Titanosaur, one of the biggest dinosaurs ever discovered.

• But, according to TimeOut New York, he’s about to get some roommates…. Image Source: www.abc.net.au

“Dinosaurs Among Us”:

In “Dinosaurs Among Us,” the American Museum of Natural History will examine how one group of dinosaurs evolved into fascinating living creatures we call birds.

The exhibition will highlight the continuities between living dinosaurs - birds - and their extinct ancestors, showcasing remarkable new evidence for what scientists now call one of the best-documented evolutionary transitions in the history of life.

Here are TimeOut NY’s 4 Faves:

1. Microraptor • Basics: 10 inches at the hip,

with four wings and fabulous feathers all over.

• Likes: Tiny hunks of meats. Size isn’t suppose to matter, but give her something she can handle!

• Dislikes: Pizza rat. She doesn’t understand why no one has swooped down and eaten her.

Where She’d Live If Not At The Museum:

• A fifth-floor walk-up wherever the hell she wants. Because she can (probably) fly, so NBD.

2. Citipati

• Basics: Three-and-a-half feet tall at the hip, sans heels!

• Likes: Netflix and chilling in her nest. Nestflix and chill.

• Dislikes: Not much! She’s so easygoing and social!

Where She’d Live If Not At The Museum:

• The Upper West Side, since she was named by AMNH’s own Norell.

3. Oviraptorosaur

• Basics: Two-and-a-half feet and a beaked nose.

• Likes: He’s likely a herbivore, so chopped salads.

• Dislikes: Introverts and huge extinction events.

4. Khaan

• Basics: Two-and-a-half feet at the hip and flirty.

• Likes: Looking through Pinterest for new nest finds.

• Dislikes: When people think his name’s a nod to Star Trek. Both came from the Mongol work for “Lord”!
