DESCRIPTION

Basantapur is one of the most happening places of Nepal and a wonderful location for emotive captures. Human emotions have always interested me and the place would offered an entire day to observe a person, who would eventually be the protagonist of the publication. The photo feature is also a tribute to one of the highly regarded poems by Laxmi Prashad Devkota - Lunatic.

To all the Lunatics who try to question the unquestioned, answer the unanswered!

This photo feature is also a tribute to the most prolific poet in the history of Nepali literature, and my personal favorite from his collection – the Lunatic. I would also like to dedicate this feature to my on screen hero; the lunatic; whom I found to be way

too serious about some expressions towards life and believe that he has many questions unanswered.!

“जरुर साथी म पागल! यस्त ैछ मेरो हाल ।” – These lines written by the greatest poet in the history of Nepali literature still reminds many about the prolific career that Laxmi Prasad Devkota had. The poem in itself brings Goosebumps to many while many remain lost in the imagination that it induces. Born 104 years ago in the day of Laxmi Puja, this year’s festival reminded me of what is the most influential poem of my career. And what would be a better tribute than doing a photo feature on the theme – Lunatic; that in a way influenced me taking the name – ‘Baulla.’ Basantapur is one of the most happening places and a wonderful location for emotive captures. Human emotions have always interested me and the place would offer me an entire day to observe the person in this photo feature. I don’t know the reason behind this person being a lunatic but he clearly represented what Devkota wrote in the poem. His actions were deliberate and everytime he did something it would give me the feel that he had many questions that remained unanswered. The person tried to light incense sticks by adding some color from a syringe and then would stare at the idol of the Goddess there. He would then look up in the sky and the people around, and then submit himself to his own laughter. He would then smoke and as dramatic it would get for the scene; the person was out of stock with his cigarette supply. Seeing this misery, I thought of giving him a momentary pleasure. I went in search of his brand of cigarette - ‘Pilot’. To my surprise when I returned, my lunatic had gone. I tried to ask a few people about him. No one had any answer to where the person did go. This again reminded me of how individualistic and personal would the society be; and how different are the lunatics. Disappointed, I thought of leaving the cigarette in the same place expecting that the person would get that momentary happiness someday. This photo feature is a tribute to the most prolific poet of Nepali literature, his ‘Lunatic’ and ‘my Lunatic’ as you would see in the pictures. ©!Kaushal!Raj!Sapkota!(Baulla)!Operations!and!Event!Director!(Kaya@Kalpa!Pvt.!Ltd.)!www.baulla.com!!www.facebook.com/kopchant!www.facebook.com/41clicks!

The Lunatic

Surely my friend, insane I am, Such is my plight, I visualize sound, I hear the visible,

And fragrance I taste, And the ethereal is palpable for me.

Those things I touch, Whose existence the world denies,

Of whose shape the world is unaware.

Laxmi Prasad Devkota
