My Film Idea – Narrative: My crime-comedy film will feature an ensemble cast. The opening scene begins in the middle of a conversation between a street thug and a gang member, the mid way conversation will hopefully engage with the audience, questioning the characters occupation and why they are speaking to one another. The gang member sees the street thug as a possible recruit. The title sequence will incorporate the introduction to all the characters part of the gang by that member, eventually introducing himself as well. It will include freeze frames and the nicknames of the characters in a funky or rustic font. Also using eye-catching transitions. This sets the base of the film. The narrative continues on how rookie street thug gains local reputation by being a recent recruit in a gang. Film Soundtrack: The music I plan to use, as part of my soundtrack will be fast paced to help show the audience the pace of the film. A catchy but non-cliché song that makes the film memorable to the audience and sets the action packed mood to the film. Initial Ideas – The Crime-Comedy ‘Just Sinners’ Film Opening Idea Crime-Comedy: A crime-drama narrative incorporating comedy elements, to help liven the mood. This separates the crime-drama from a crime-comedy genre. This genre is common for movies that involve mafias, gangs and criminal activity. Also including the relationships between each character and how their personality plays an important Crime-Comedy/Crime-Drama Inspiration: Crime Dramas and crime-comedies usually involve an ensemble cast and these films help make crucial decisions when constructing the script based on the narrative. Title – ‘Just Sinners’: I tried to incorporate an oxymoron. ‘Just’ in terms of being fair or good, contradicting the term ‘sinners’. A positive adjective describing a negative noun. This helps explain the Film Titles: Developing upon the Snatch movie title sequence. Using the inspiration of the freeze-framed artistic poster, this will enhance the introduction of the characters towards the audience. The introduction of the characters will involve them doing unpleasant actions, some of these be include: striking someone using a baseball bat, burning an object, beating a person’s head in between a car door or piano and even dragging an Film Transitions: I intend to use match cuts, invisible cuts and even a smash cut between each character introduction. Director, Edgar Wright, uses a lot of these clever techniques making his films unique. I use this as inspiration. Clothing: Clothing plays an important part into trying to achieve the crime genre. The clothes I plan to use are unlike the ones used in mafia movies, like goodfellas or the godfather where the characters wear old- fashioned suits. I am trying to show a more modern aspect in the film, following a more street gangster theme. Clothing I plan to use are: flat caps, bomber jackets, hoodies, caps and casual shirts. Casual, everyday clothes. The fashion of rappers and the movie ‘four brothers’ help draw inspiration.
