Question 1: in what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? The title of our documentary is Manchester riots 2011, we chose this as it is like any over documentary such as ‘9/11 the lost tapes’, this is a straight to the point title and the viewers know exactly what there watching. Costumes and props are no featured within our film as it is a documentary and doesn't require any costumes or props due to it being a factual film. The location of the documentary is Manchester city centre due to the fact that this was where the riots happened, it is filmed in market street where most riots took place. Market street Manchester is where the most of the rioting took place due to its high volume of shops, these were targeted by looters and rioters the most.

•Camerawork and editing, as you can see from the shot we have replicated shots which are used in a our test shots to make it more professional as these shots a taken by professionals.

Ancillary Shots: Final product shots:

The top shot is the one from our documentary and the one below is from the BBC documentary about the Manchester riots, as you can see these shots are similar because the person is a medium shot of someone being interviewed directly to the camera.

This is a medium close shot used to show the top half the person and also to show the emotions that this person is expressing, I thought this would be a good idea to use in our documentary for the interviews due to be able to see both body language and emotions of the person being interviewed.

Opening scene

For our opening shot we decided to use a iconic place within Manchester, we used the Manchester Andale centre sigh so the audience would instantly recognise where the documentary is shot, also this is where most of the rioting took place

Interviews

We used interviews where they are talking directly to the camera so the audience get the feel they are telling them of their personal experience within the riots, it makes it feel as if they are talking directly to the audience and makes them more involved

Archive footage

We used archive footage off YouTube due to the fact that we couldn't act out a riot and this was the footage we needed to make our documentary work, we had to download the clip they cut them for what we wanted then added them onto the adobe premier cs3

Location shooting

We used locations within our documentary so that the audience would recognise where our documentary is filmed and it makes them want to watch it more because if they are familiar with the places then this will make them seem more interested into watching.

Ancillary task 1

For my ancillary task 1 I created a poster which would be used to advertise our documentary, there is a short paragraph about what the documentary is about and we used a bright image which sums up what the documentary is about which is riots, the image gives of the fact that its violent and outrage, and the police officer which is in the image indicates that the emergency services are used which shows that it involves violence and chaos, the fact that the officer is wearing riot gear indicates that its a more serious matter.

Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Ancillary task 2

For my ancillary task 2 is created a review for my documentary, it tells the audience about what the documentary is about and why it is and good and also why you should go and watch the documentary. There is a well know magazine rating at the bottom of the review to give it a more genuine look as radio times is a well established company that rate such films and TV shows.

Adobe

This is what we used to create our video as you can insert video formats and audio formats which play back together. We cut and slice videos so if we had a 2 minute clip we could reduce that so we just had the piece we wanted.
