Javier Mariscal is a Valencian Spanish artist and designer whose work has spanned a wide range of mediums, ranging from painting and sculpture to interior design and landscaping. He was born in February 1950 in the city of Valencia, Spain into a family of eleven brothers and sisters. Since 1970, he has been living and working in Barcelona
Cobi was the official mascot of the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. He is a Catalan Sheepdog in Cubist style inspired by the interpretations of Picasso of a masterpiece from Velázquez, Las Meninas. Cobi was designed by Javier Mariscal (1950-). The mascot was unveiled to the public in 1987. His name was derived from the Barcelona Olympic Organising Committee (COOB).Before and during the Games, Cobi was shown in a variety of advertisements for Olympic sponsors such as Coca-Cola, Brother Industries and Danone. He even had his own TV series, The Cobi Troupe. He also appeared on an extensive range of souvenirs, dubbed Cobiana, which proved to be a lucrative source of income. During the Games an inflatable Cobi was tethered to the Barcelona waterfront

However, during the
period when Modernisme emerged, he used floral
ornamentation on his works, such as the
former Hostafrancs
Deputy Mayor's building (1895;
1908-1915; Creu Coberta, 106; currently
the Sants-Montjuïc district
offices of Barcelona City Council), which
he reformed with U. Iranzo.
Gradually, however, his style evolved. His compositions lost
their rigidity to suit the demands of his customers, Barcelona's upper middle
classes

La Diada de Sant Jordi, (Saint George's Day), also known as El dia de la Rosa (The Day of the Rose) or El dia del Llibre (The Day of the Book) is a Catalan holiday held on 23 April, with similarities to Valentine's Day and some unique twists that reflect the antiquity of the celebrations. The main event is the exchange of gifts between sweethearts, loved ones and colleagues. Historically, men gave women roses, and women gave men a book to celebrate the occasion—"a rose for love and a book forever." In modern times, the mutual exchange of books is also customary. Roses have been associated with this day since medieval times, but the giving of books is a more recent tradition originating in 1923, when a bookseller started to promote the holiday as a way to commemorate the nearly simultaneous deaths of Miguel Cervantes and William Shakespeare on 23 April 1616.

This visual poem by Joan Brossa stands just in front of Barcelona’s Roman wall, where the aqueduct once entered the city. This curious sculpture, which blends in perfectly with the city’s most ancient stones, spells out the word Barcino, the Roman name of Barcelona, and is the artist’s tribute to the ancient colonyThe ideogram was created by Joan Brossa in 1992 and put in place in 1994, a few years before his death. Brossa, a poet and fine artist, was bold enough to make his art public by bringing it into the street, thus enabling him to pay his own particular homage to the origins of Barcelona

Mistos (matches), Claes Oldenburg, Vall d'Hebrón
The Swedish artist Claes Oldenburg was commissioned to create this sculpture during the Olympic period and he chose an everyday object as commonplace as the match as his subject matter. Standing 22 metres high, these huge “matches” protrude in higgledy-piggledy fashion from a matchbook cover. The pop artist plays with the size of an object as insignificant as the match and raises it to an art form. The red and yellow matches seem to leap out of the matchbook cover and some are scattered on the ground. One is still burning with a bluish flame.
The sculpture was made from multi-coloured metal and cement in 1992, and decorates the former Olympic site of the Vall d’Hebrón. It is an attractive, fun landmark that is in perfect harmony with the area reconstructed for the Olympic Games which had been somewhat isolated and forgotten until then. The dynamic sculptural ensemble gives its surroundings character and fully ties in with the pop aesthetic that draws inspiration from the world of comics and advertising. These “matches” cannot go unnoticed. .
Claes Oldenburg is an American sculptor, best known for his public art installations typically featuring very large replicas of everyday objects.
