Massimo Banzihow arduino is open-sourcing imagination

Massimo Banzi is a Italian engineer and computer programmer who helped create Arduino. A powerful yet cheap open source electronics platform which helped kick off the the recent “makers movement”

The thesis of Massimo’s speech is how affordable open source hardware and software like aurduino helps change the worlds masses of consumers into producers.

Capturing the audiences attention

Massimo initially grabs the audiences attention with a story about how one of his friends gives his son a tow car not by buying it from a store but downloading it from the internet.

Massimo continues to engage the audience by telling many stories of the the people that use aurduino to create the things that they need or want.

TED Commandment #3

Make the complex plain.

Massimo makes best use of this TED commandment. Instead of trying the explain the technical capabilities of open source hardware like aurduino he uses many examples and stories to show the audience just how easy and accessible the open source model makes creating the things that people need and want.

Massimo effectively used the stories of common people that used aurduino to create amazing things to give examples of his point to the audience as suggested by Nancy Duarte. He also made effective use of slides and multimedia presentations with out overly relying on them as suggested by both Garr Reynolds and Nancy Duarte.

What I learned

Passion and interest in the subject you are presenting is just important as a well prepared speech or multimedia content.

Effective use of real life stories and examples an objects can help grab your audience’s attention and keep them engaged.

• less reliance and stories and examples instead focuses of facts and figures

Stories and real life examples are a great way to grab you audience's attention and engage them through out the presentation

Multimedia presentations and slide shows are a great way to enhance your presentation as long as they don’t detract from the main focus which is your comments

Showing a strong personal interest in your subject is one of the most important parts of a good presentation. If your not interested nobody else will be.
